DSM-IV EVALUATION

DSM-IV Evaluation We analyzed the five cases of patients suffering from various disorders. These are: schizoid personality disorder, narcissistic disorder, somatoform disorder, dissociative amnesia and schizophrenia. After determining each case with their disorders, discuss its causes and treatments. The first case is a woman with schizoid personality disorder. Possible causes for this disorder are unaccepting parents or abusive during childhood and deficiencies in thinking and perceptual skills (Comer, 2005). Treatment: Psychotherapy prolonged. Although this disorder is a chronic disease with a poor prognosis and social isolation characteristic of this disorder Often Prevents other offer assistance or support That Could Potentially Improve outcome. The second case, Luis suffers from narcissistic personality disorder. The disorder usually begins in early adulthood and is marked by the neglect of the feelings of others, the affectation, the obsessive self-interest and the pursuit of goals primarily selfish. Treatment: Psychotherapy may help the affected person relate to others in a more compassionate and positive. The results may vary according to the severity of the disorder.

Anissa is the third case; she suffers from a somatoform disorder, pain disorder specifically. No one knows exactly why symptoms appear somatoform disorders. In some cases, there may be a problem with the nerve impulses that send pain signals, pressure and other unpleasant sensations to the brain. What is known is that the pain and the problems caused by somatoform disorders are real, not imaginary. Like many medical problems, somatoform disorders are passed from parents to children. They also tend to come and go over time.

Treatment: Although there is no known cure for somatoform disorders, you may handle. Treatment focuses on helping the person with the disorder to live a life as normal as possible, though you may still feel some pain or other symptoms. Fortunately, a somatoform disorder does not shorten the life of a person. It is possible that your doctor can prescribe medications for some of the symptoms, but in many cases will not need drugs.

Case number four refers to Karen, Karen suffers from dissociative amnesia. Dissociative amnesia stems from certain traumatic experiences severe stress or severe internal conflicts. Episodes of amnesia can occur, usually originating in childhood, maltreatment or sexual abuse, and in overwhelming situations where the threat, injury or death outweigh the individual's ability to integrate when a conscious level. It may be a violation, a war or a natural disaster. Similarly, high-stress situations such as abandonment, death of a loved one or financial ruin, can lead to dissociative amnesia. Treatment is based on hypnosis or the effects of certain drugs. This is a delicate process, since the patient can evoke disturbing facts of the past. However you need to retrieve those memories and integrate them into the identity of the person. From there, continue treatment focused on the understanding of trauma and ways to solve it.

The fifth and final case is Tony. Tony suffers from schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a disease of the mind, whose symptoms are attributed to anomalies in the transfer and processing of information in the brain. Many symptoms of schizophrenia have been linked to abnormalities in the activity of particular neurotransmitters.
