Martin Luther King Jr.: Fight for Equal Rights

Martin Luther King Jr. was a powerful leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He defended the African-American people and fought for their rights. Martin Luther King Jr. was influenced by civil rights leaders Howard Thurman, Mahatma Gandhi, and Bayard Rustin. He was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's belief that resistance to non-violence is the only way to fight for equality. He changed many lives and changed history through his work to end racial discrimination. I chose this topic because it was a great accomplishment for someone to change such horrible things into great opportunities for people who never had a chance to do them for the reason of racial discrimination. I believe Martin Luther King Jr. made a great impact on history and certainly created a turning point in the unfair ways our country believed in at the time. This topic ties in with the theme; Turning Points In History: People, Ideas, Events; for the reason being that the way African Americans had been treated were so terrible and Martin Luther King Jr. was not afraid to fight for the justice of people. Martin Luther King Jr. knew what was going on was only going to get worse and was not afraid to change it. He did what he believed in. He made a change, just like he intended to do. Even though he lost his life while for fighting for what he knew was right, he definitely accomplished his goal. He had a dream of what America could be in the future; Free for all color and race. And now in time, his dream has come true. I believe that Martin Luther King Jr. is an iconic figure all around the world for all of his accomplishments. He was assassinated on April 4th 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee for fighting for the justice of innocent people. Martin Luther King Jr. will always be remembered as someone who fought for equal rights for people of all race and color.
