MOVIE

AND GARLAND!
Family Night Activities December 14, 2012 Calendar: GOD NEVER CHANGES

Preparation: Make or buy Christmas Cookies. If you want to bake the cookies and decorate them together that would be great too! Rent or purchase the movie Its a Wonderful Life. Cut 6 X 2 inch strips of red and green construction paper. This will be used to make chain linked garland. You will also need pens or markers and glue or tape.

Begin the evening with lighting the 2nd Advent Candle: Second Advent Candle: Peace Light two purple candles - Hope and Peace Read Isaiah 9:6. For a Child is born to us, a Son is given to us. The government will rest on His shoulders. And He will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (NLT) Luke 1:78-79. Because of Gods tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace. (NLT) Prayer: Thank Jesus for coming to earth to give us a way to be at peace with God and with others. Extinguish the flames Garland and a movie time! Give everyone five strips of construction paper and a pen or a marker. Before watching the movie, explain that this is a famous movie but its not a real life story. While you are watching the movie (and enjoying the Christmas cookies) keep the pen and paper handy. If the movie brings to mind someone you are thankful for, a specific act of kindness someone did and at least one thing about God that you are thankful for, write it on a strip of construction paper. (Parents may need to help the littler ones!) After the movie make the garland and talk about what you wrote on the strips. To make the garland, tape the ends of one strip together (forming a circle) then thread another strip through the circle and tape the ends together (creating 2 linked circles). Continue until the chain is as long as you want. We now have a garland of thanks and remembrance! Not only are we important to each other, we are important to God. His love for us Never Changes and no matter what we do, we are always important to Him!!
