Tag Implementation Instructions

Implementing Effective Measure across your website(s) has been designed to be quick and easy. To ensure all traffic is included in your reports, the tag must be added to all content pages for your website. The tag will then loads asynchronously each time a page is loaded in a browser and send a record to the Effective Measure servers without affecting page load times. Secure (https) pages are handled automatically by the tag and can be safely included on those pages. Getting the tag As part of the Effective Measure registration process, you will have received a copy of your Effective Measure support, If you require the tag to be re-issued. Adding the tag to your site Adding the Effective Measure tag to your pages requires some technical knowledge of your website configuration. Please forward these instructions to your technical team if you prefer. The simplest was to get the tags added to each page of your site is by using page templates or website includes, as supported by your server and content management system. If these methods are not available, the tag must be added by hand to each page. Placement of the tag in the page The tag should appear near the top of the page, ideally immediately after the opening <body> tag. The tag loads asynchronously, which means that it will load at the same time as other elements of the page without affecting page load times.

Incorrectly Placed Tags The Effective Measure tags have been tested to work when implemented as described above. Tags implemented differently will cause inconsistencies, including your numbers being underreported and surveys not launching. Below are examples of tags located incorrectly on the page.

Example 2: Tag located in <head> section of the page will not allow surveys to launch correctly.

Example 3: tags located outside <html> section of the page will not load correctly in all browsers.

Malformed Tags Occasionally content management systems or HTML editors, can cause malformed tags to be added to pages. Malformed tags will not load consistently and will result in incorrect reporting of data. Below are some example of malformed tags.
Example 4: Tags condensed onto one line inconsistently in different browsers.

Example 5: HTML comment tags added to the tag have disabled it.

Confirming the tag is working To confirm that a page has been tagged correctly, you should load the page in a browser and view the source. The tag should appear exactly as it was in the original file sent to you. If you are familiar to web development tools, you will be able to see a record posted to the Effective Measure servers when a pager loads.
