Seven Psychiatrists Involved In Sexual Assault In Past Seven Years In Canada Psychiatric assault is a very common occurrence over

the world, but all too ofte n the perpetrator is only slapped on the wrist by being given a fine or suspensi on from practice for these criminal activities Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, December 10, 2012 -- According to the Citiz ens Commission on Human Rights seven psychiatrists have either been criminally c onvicted, stripped of their license to practice or severely reprimanded in Canad a in the past 7 years for assaulting their patients or for misconduct with patie nts. One of the psychiatrists was sentenced to 18 months in jail for his crimina l activities. Dr. Aubrey Levin, the forensic psychiatrist currently on trial for 10 counts of assault in Alberta, Canada, is the same psychiatrist who was named for possible g ross human rights abuses during Apartheid rule in 1997 by South Africas Truth and R econciliation Commission. Members of the media at the time of the Apartheid era h ad dubbed him Dr. Shock because of his alleged use of electric shock on conscripts . It has been alleged, on good authority, that in the 1980s and 1990s Levin, then a colonel, was the chief psychiatrist at 1 Military Hospitals infamous Ward 22, w here conscripts and soldiers were treated with aversion therapy. Last month, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario suspended Dr. Stan ley Dobrowolskis practice pending an investigation of the alleged abuse of a fema le patient. A North Vancouver psychiatrist was suspended for two years by the College of Phy sicians and Surgeons of B.C. after admitting to having inappropriate relationshi ps with two patients between 2008 and 2010. Dr. Peter Sung-Ho Lim admitted to te lephoning and sending text messages of an inappropriate and personal nature to one patient and engaging in a relationship with another, the college said. Brian Beaumont, president of the British Columbia chapter of the Citizens Commis sion on Human Rights, said Psychiatric assault is a very common occurrence over t he world, but all too often the perpetrator is only slapped on the wrist by bein g given a fine or suspension from practice for these criminal activities. There ha s been ample evidence that women are at very great risk of being assaulted while in a psychiatrist s office. Dr. Carol Elaine Davies admitted that she was guilty of unprofessional conduct w ith respect to her interaction with a former patient who was an inmate with Corr ectional Services Canada (CSC). In 2003, Dr. Davies provided pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy services in psychiatric clinics at facilities of CSC. Following t he termination of such services, Dr. Davies visited the former patient/inmate on frequent occasions over a one year period. Dr. Davies admitted that her conduct involved the creation of a personal relationship with a former patient and that such a relationship was inappropriate and unprofessional given the nature of th e prior psychotherapeutic relationship. The College of Physicians and Surgeons o rdered (among other things) that Dr. Davies future professional conduct must be b eyond reproach in every respect Dr. Bacon, a retired Victoria B.C. psychiatrist, admitted that he was guilty of infamous conduct. A child psychiatrist, Dr. Golden, was stripped of his license to practice and wa s labeled a sexual predator by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia after they found him guilty of sexual relations with three young femal e patients between 2000 and 2005.

In February 2006, Dr. Larry Anderson, a Penticton psychiatrist was sentenced to 18 months in jail for assaulting female patients under his care. The charges inv olved three former patients with whom he had intercourse in separate relationshi ps from the late 1970s until 1999.
