Title of the project: Colleges.net Introduction and Objective: Arrival of internet resulted in the availability of plethora of information on t he network. To facilitate prompt search of required information from this vast r epository of information, search engines emerged. Today we have multiple search engines that are continuously crawling of WebPages, creating indexes and facilit ating fast search of required information. The problem with these search engines is that they are too generalized and present a lot of information as a result o

f each search. Each search result needs to be filtered by the users. Sometimes i t requires hours or even days to find out relevant information. Swarnim Infosoft Pvt. Ltd. is a Noida based company that deals in information ba sed software products and services. Colleges.net is an initiative of Swarnim Inf osoft Pvt. Ltd to create a localized, domain specific search engine cum on line directory of professional colleges in India. Potential users of this search engi nes shall be students interested in various professional courses, companies prov iding services to professional (Engineering, Management, Dental, Education and M edical colleges) colleges, companies looking for freshers for placement etc. Apa rt from providing fast and prompt information of professional colleges, Colleges .net shall provide a platform to these colleges for advertisement on electronic media. Colleges can create their profiles containing details such as name, addre ss, courses offered, special features, placement records, admission schedules et c and can upload images of their campus and logos. When a search is performed by a user instead of displaying hyperlinks of website s of colleges that matched the criteria, profiles of colleges shall be displayed by the search engine. Users can view these profiles to obtain desired informati on can solicit further information using the notification facility provided by t he search engine.
