Book report en 5 - Compare characters Choose an English novel (roman) and focus on the characters.

It may be a good idea to take notes while reading! Then it will probably be easier for you when you are to write the report (to remember details, page numbers for important quotes/passages etc). Start your report with a short introduction. Here you present the title of the book, the author and give a brief summary of the plot and present the characters you have chosen to focus on. Why did you choose these characters? Then you go on with the body of your report. This is the main part of your text. Here you describe and compare two of the characters thoroughly. Discuss their similarities and differences. The questions below may be of help: (you are of course allowed to focus on other aspects as well, depending on what book/which characters you work with!)

What are their characteristics (egenskaper) and appearance? What functions do they serve in the story? (main character, minor role..?) Do they have any special talents, values, dreams etc? What kind of relations do they have (to each other, to other people..)? What about family situation? Can you identify with any of the characters? In what way, or why not? Does any of the characters change during the story? How, and why? What is your opinion/impression of these characters? Why, do you think? Would you like to change them somehow? In what way? Why? Can you learn anything from any of your characters, from their actions, opinions, experience?

Finally you end your report with a conclusion. Here you may sum up your personal thoughts about the characters, what you thought of the book and what you learned from your reading experience or put emphasis on something special about the book. The important thing is that you somehow clearly show the reader that this is the end of your text. Preferably computer written, ~ 2 pages, 1 spacing. Write in good English - you are of course allowed to use grammar books
