In Maharashtra, CCI made its entry during cotton season 2002-03, after the state government of Maharashtra relaxed its monopoly procurement scheme thereby allowing ginneries, traders & CCI to purchase raw cotton from the farmers of the state.
CCI has been championing the interest of Indian cotton farmers for more than three decades and is the single largest cotton trading company in the country. Serving the cotton farmers of the country in realizing fair price of their produce, by operating more than 258-300 procurement centers on All- India basis. CCI remains present in the market yards from day one of the kapas arrivals so as to ensure fair competition at the time of auction. Serving Textile Industry by playing a leadership role of a dependable supplier of quality cotton on most competitive terms. It has earned a reputation for maintaining quality, adhering to sale terms and for delivery schedules both in domestic as well as international market. To supply cotton to the textile industry at competitive prices, CCI keeps on selling cotton on day-to-day basis and does not speculate on prices. We also believe in transparent working and fair trade practices. We also strike a balance between offering fair price to cotton growers and excellent pre and post sales services to cotton buyers. Achieved all targets of annual programme for use of official languages. CCI has been honoured with first prize for Indira Gandhi Raj Bhasa shield for 19th time. CCI buys raw cotton directly from the cotton farmers through the aegis of Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs) conducted auctions in the APMC yards. CCI officials are present in such markets from the day one of the arrivals till the same continues. All such purchases by CCI are in open competition with other traders and State agencies participating in the auctions and the main objectives remain to ensure remunerative prices to the cotton farmers /on the one hand and procure standard quality raw cotton on the other hand. At present, CCI is operating in all cotton growing States 258-300 procurement centres under the control of respective Branch Office in each State. Apart from 15 Branch Offices, there are 4 Sales Branches to cater to the needs of the textile mills for sale and supply of quality cotton as also for rendering the necessary after sales services. Financial Performance Authorised Capital of the Corporation is Rs.75.00 crores and paid up capital as on 31st March 2010 is Rs.25.00 crores. Earning profit since 1988-89 except loss during the year 2000-01. From 1988-89 to 2009-10 earned profit of Rs.783.12 crores and net profit after tax of Rs.506.17 crores. As on 31st March 2010, Reserves and Surplus are Rs.330.63 crores and net worth Rs.355.63 crores During the year 2009-10 the Corporation achieved ever highest turnover of Rs.8397.03 crores.
