2012 2012 Predictions Proposal Inquiry question: What civilizations have made predictions about the end of the world in 2012 and what did they predict? Primary purpose: To explore. The main purpose for my topic is to find out if civilizations have actually made doomsday predictions for 2012 or have people just twisted what they actually said. I also choose this topic because the predicted date is approaching pretty soon. This topic has been discussed by many and has been the subject of hundreds of books and recent movies. My main purpose or goal was to find the truth behind what these civilizations have predicted. 10 questions: 1. What similarities are there in different civilizations predictions? 2. Do predictions come from science/calculations or religious beliefs? 3. Why do everyones predictions land on 2012? 4. What is the galactic lineup thats supposed to occur on 12/21/12? 5. What did Nostradamus predict would happen in 2012? 6. What did the Hopi Indians predict in 2012? 7. What exactly is a prediction? 8. Have errors been made translating predictions? 9. Did the Egyptians predict catastrophic events? 10. Did the Mayan calendar predict the end of time or the end of a cycle?

Prior knowledge: I dont really know anything particular about what predictions were made about 2012. I have no idea what the Mayan, Hopi or Nostradamus actually predicted which my main goal of researching this topic. I have heard a lot about the Mayan calendar being referred to as a source of the predictions. I do know that the Mayan calendar was very accurate even more accurate than the calendar we use today. There calendar has predicted every solstice and solar eclipse for thousands of years. The Mayan calendar also doesnt have leap years and only have 360 days a year. I know the knowledge of astronomy that the Mayan had was incredible they calculated how many planets were in our solar system and positions of star constellations in the sky. Prior beliefs, assumptions, stereotypes: I have recently been thinking about the predictions made by the Mayans and I watched the movie 2012. The 2012 movie has recently hyped up the current theories about the Mayan prediction and made people question whether there correct or not. I think that the predictions about the end of the world wont come true on 12/21/12. But, I do think its possible to have a natural disaster due to the galactic alignment or something. That possibility is still very far-fetched, I plan on finding out what different civilizations did predict and think would happen. Working knowledge: The Mayan calendar predicts natural events such as eclipses and the solstice of the Earth without failure for thousands of years. There calendar is divided into times periods of 5125 years called baktums. The day in 2012 that the apocalypse is supposed to occur on is the day the 13th baktum ends which is 12/21/12. This date also lies on a very rare galactic lineup of our solar system with the center of the universe. This event only happens once in 26,000 years. The Mayan built there temples in patterns of constellations of the stars when the sun with line up with the center of the galaxy marking the end of the Earths equinox. Nostradamus a prophet from the 16th century also made predictions about the destruction of Earth in 2012. He predicted a great comet, Nibiru, or rogue planet would impact the Mediterranean on 12/21/12 causing great destruction worldwide. The Egyptians built the pyramids of Giza for the sole purpose of mapping the stars. There are shafts that go diagonally through the pyramids that stars line up with on certain particularly on 12/21/12. The pyramids hold the signs of the Zodiac showing the end of sign we are currently end and then a gap between the new time

we are supposed to enter which is the sign of Aquarius. The pyramids were built as a sign mark the time of the sun lining up with the center of the galaxy or the dark rift. If I have to narrow: I would research what a particular civilization predicted on 2012? If I have to broaden: If I had to broaden my search I would include what the US government plan to do if there is such an apocalypse in the future of America.
