Mini Lesson 7- Saturn

Description of Classroom: Same as previous lesson Background: 1 day lesson on Saturn, students are used to the lesson strategy and Routine for learning the planets, we are in the middle of a solar system/planet unit Content Objective(s): Students will learn the basic characteristics of Saturn and All appropriate vocabulary to go with Language Objective(s): Complete writing in science journals at the end of the Lesson for comprehension, writing to complete worksheets, and reading various Materials about Saturn Nevada Standards: M.D.3 (a)- See previous lesson plan Key Vocabulary: Pull various and appropriate key words from worksheets Best Practices: (put an X next to those that you address in your lesson)

Teaching Strategies: Whole group reading a book about Saturn, read a poem about Saturn, guided instruction for worksheets, independent practice, and Writing prompt in science journals Warm Up Activity: Start the KWL chart, asking students what they already know about Saturn. Continue on to ask students what they then want to learn about Saturn. Put the responses on sticky notes and put the notes on the KWL chart. Lesson Sequence: Read a book about Saturn, have other books available in the Classroom for students to reference. Read the poem about Saturn with whole class Students will complete the worksheets about Saturn with accuracy, complete the Rest of the KWL chart, asking students what they learned about Saturn. Students Will also write in their science journals 3-21 strat. Accommodations: Same as previous lesson

Supplementary Materials: KWL chart, science journals, variety of books about Saturn, Saturn poem, worksheets, science journals Review/Assessment: Informal assessment- discussion, completion and Accuracy of work packets and writing in science journals Reflection: Students really liked the books about Saturn. Students are getting very proficient in completing their worksheet packets about the planets and coming up With valid questions to be asking. These questions will be answered later during the Final project for the unit where students will have the ability to do their own Research about a planet of their choice. We are getting close to the end of the unit About planets. .
