Tattenhall homes appeal
DEVELOPERS have launched planning appeals after councillors turned down their
applications to build homes in Tattenhall. Redrow Homes and Ashley Wall had schemes
refused at Harding Avenue and Greenlands respectively. Council leader Cllr Mike Jones
said that overdevelopment would be disastrous for the village.
Badger baiting reports
POLICE are investigating a reported incident of poachers / badger baiters at Willington
Lane, Clotton. According to the police hese offences are not uncommon, across the
whole of the rural countryside, but because the offences occur mostly at night, away from
residential areas, they are often unnoticed. A spokesman said; The offenders have no
regard for wildlife or the dogs which they often use. I would urge landowners to be vigilant
for evidence of such offences on their land, and to report any suspicious activity.
Mower theft
A thief stole a lawnmower from the garage of a house in High Street, Tattenhall. An
attempted break-in at a garage in Willington Lane, Kelsall, failed when the thief failed to
break the locks.

TARPORLEY PARISH COUNCIL
NEWSLETTER
Council in limbo waiting for
planning appeal result
THIS month we have been making plans for our Christmas Lights event (on Friday 30th
November) and gearing up for the cold and icy weather by preparing for our Volunteer
Winter Gritting project. If you would like to know more or would like to offer to grit the
pavements near where you live, please contact either the parish clerk on Tel 01829 733496
or James Blackford at jhblackford@hotmail.co.uk.
As to planning applications, we are in a period of waiting; waiting for the outcome of
the Nantwich Road proposed development which is with the Minister, Eric Pickles (A
response is due before 17th December); waiting for the proposed development on the
daffodil eld off the High Street to come before CWaCs planning committee; waiting for the
paperwork for the planning application for retirement housing off Birch Heath Road; and
waiting for the planning application for the Brook Farm site.
We expect to be discussing the application about the land off Birch Heath Road at our
next meeting on Monday 10th December in the Community Centre. People are welcome to
share their views with us at the Open Forum
at 7pm.
As far as the Brook Farmsite and the
land opposite are concerned, if and when it
receives planning permission, we intend to
consult the village about how this outdoor
sports land, with parking and changing
facilities, is developed. We will need to know
which sports facilities the community want. So
watch out for a leaet through your letter box
in 2013.
We anticipate setting up a charitable trust to
manage the facilities. So we will be looking for people to form a working group to undertake
the consultation, seek funding and develop the site. If you are interested please contact the
clerk on 01829 733496 or parishclerk@tarporley.org.uk
The other part of the land opposite the Brook Farm site will be used to build affordable
housing, both to rent and part buy-part rent (shared ownership). If planning permission is
granted, we want to make sure that local people, and people who work in the village, know
about this opportunity to live in Tarporley. Please tell anyone you think might be interested.
Finally the members of Tarporley Parish Council wish everyone a very merry and peaceful
Christmas and a happy and prosperous 2013.

A TEAM of children from Utkinton St Pauls
Primary School came out top in the Year 5/6
General Knowledge Quiz held at Bunbury
Primary School at the end of last Half Term.
The team of four children, competed
against other school teams from across the
Sandstone Partnership, including Tarporley
High School, and were tested in a range of
different subject areas. Their score of 54/60
was a fantastic achievement.
As winners, they were awarded a trophy
which the children can be seen proudly
displaying above.
Year 5/6 Teacher Gareth Coyne said: This
was a fantastic achievement. It provided an
opportunity for our children to show that they
have a rich and broad general knowledge.

LET THE BELLS RING OUT TO ONE AND ALL THIS CHRISTMAS!
AS people are living longer, we believe it is
very important to remember, that no matter
how old are, we all deserve to be treated with
dignity and respect.
At the Bunbury Agency, we make it our
priority to provide a service that truly meets the
needs of those requiring help. Our care services are
tailor-made for each individual, no matter what
level of care is required. We provide friendly and
professional Carers or Companions, who will make
all the difference to your relatives quality of life.
Knowing that someone kind and understanding
is looking after your loved ones can dramatically
reduce the stress and worry for the whole family.
About some of our Special Clients..
Some years ago, a client of ours lost her husband
unexpectedly. She had no children and there were no
other relatives; her many animals were all she had left.
Sadly, she went into a deep depression, was unable to
wash and feed herself, and tried to commit suicide. Most
of her animals were taken away from her and put down,
which added to her distress. Our Carers have now been
with her, day and night, for the last eight years. She says
They have transformed my life and I could not have
managed without them. They are my best friends.
For over ten years we looked after a lovely couple.
The husband had Parkinsons and died some time
ago. Our Carers continued to look after his wife until
the day she sadly passed away. I became good friends
with her daughter, and we had many emotional
conversations. In the letter she wrote Your Carers have
made it possible for both my parents to stay in their own
home. Your ladies have done their job with kindness and
sensitivity and became friends of the family. Many of
them were mentioned in her Eulogy, which brought tears
to my eyes.
. and this is why we are so personal.
Of course we are a business, but the motivation for
what we do is to make a difference to someone elses
life, no matter how small.
If you would like some advice or wish to discuss
some options about a relative or friend who is
struggling to manage living independently, please
call us on 01829 730201. A daily Carer can cost as
little as 10 an hour and the cost of a full time live-in
Carer starts from 520 per week. We look forward to
doing our utmost to help you.
From all of us at the Bunbury Agency
we wish you a very Happy Christmas
and a peaceful New Year.

Monday 17th December Saturday 22nd December
IN the blink of an eye we are approaching the
end of another year, and no one can say its
not been interesting.
Weve had the wettest summer in living memory,
helped along by the tears of joy (and I include
myself in this) as events unfolded through
the Olympic and Paralymic Games, absolutely
fantastic. Weve watched, often in total
bemusement at the antics of European leaders,
as they debate the future of the Euro, seemingly
going round in circles (has anything actually been
resolved!), weve now apparently come out of
the double dip recession, and more banks on the
High Street have announced they will no longer
be oering inancial planning advice to their
clients.
Most of these events weve simply been
bystanders to, but its fair to say that all of them
have had, and will continue to have an impact on
our personal inancial wellbeing.
Were told that the Olympic Games ticket sales
has helped lift us out of recession and that the
legacy of sports excellence will continue, I hope
so, it should.
The European issues, will eventually be resolved,
one way or another and no doubt we will feel
some of the bumps along the way, but none of us
have much inluence over Frau Merkel and her
counterparts.
We can do nothing about the weather, but the
fact is that the resultant poor harvests will
ultimately mean increases in food prices, which is
WHAT MYCLIENTS SAY
where I have lived for most of my life, I work
closely with my clients to fully understand their
nancial aspirations, hopes and fears.
I would like to invite readers of Tarporley Talk to
discover for themselves my unique approach to
nancial planning
Theres never been a mo
time to get sound nanc
I would expect my inancial adviser to be
professional, what came as a most pleasant
surprise was the personal touch and friendly
attitude I and my family received initially, and
still do in all our dealings with Carolyn. I rec-
ommend her unreservedly.
- Dr Steven Savage
likely to impact upon inlation and the spending
power of the pound in our pocket, and most
deinitely the pounds in our savings accounts.
However, if your bank has decided not to oer
inancial planning advice any longer, but simply
refer you to a website, thats a wholly dierent
matter. Here, you do have a choice and can
inluence the outcome.
Its fair to say that the Financial Services
Industry is currently going through considerable
change, which is part of the reason many of the
banks are no longer oering a inancial planning
service to all but their wealthiest clients. This
comes at a time when outside inluences, some
of which Ive just mentioned, mean that its never
been more important to have a sound inancial
plan, that is regularly reviewed, preferably by the
same person, over many years, not simply as a
one o event. For me one of the most rewarding
aspects of providing Financial Planning advice,
is in the long term relationships that inevitably
develop with my clients and their families, it
makes me feel very privileged (and also old)
when Im not only asked to see the children of
some clients, but their grandchildren too.
So, a call to action, if you would like me
to review, as always without initial fee or

Q. My daughter and I like to use good quality skin care products but we
have limited funds and lack of storage space so we were wondering
if there are any skin care products that we could share. Our skin
conditions are quite different, she is sixteen and is prone to breakouts
and Im forty six and need anti-ageing products! What can you
recommend?
A. As strange as it sounds with the right mix of skin care products,
you can take control of both breakouts and signs of aging - without
spending a fortune, saving you both money and bathroom space.
Unless your skin is extremely dry, you can both use a gentle,
water soluble cleanser and at night use a soft wash cloth
in conjunction with the cleanser to ensure that all traces
of makeup is thoroughly removed. You will both benet
from using a Beta-hydroxy acid exfoliator, (you will need
to look for salicylic acid on the ingredients label). And
of course, to protect both your skin and your daughters
skin from premature ageing you will both need a good
sunscreen so choose one that is non-pore clogging and
oil- free. For a full-regime of the products that you can
both use please visit the December newsletter page on
our website www.angelabartlett.co.uk
Q. I have recently returned from a cruise and I had a
course of very effective gure treatments which involved
hot sea clay with electrodes in them. I cant remember the
name of the treatment, but I would like to continue them
now that I am home.
A. I hope you had a good holiday and to return home
with a better gure than before your holiday is a real
achievement! The treatment you mentioned is, almost
without a doubt, Ionithermie (pronounced eye-on-
ee-thermee). Its a very effective treatment and best
results are seen when used in conjunction with a diet
and exercise programme. Two types of gentle, electrical
stimulation are employed in this treatment, one to tone
the muscle tissue and one to help active products to
penetrate the skin. The whole area is encased in thermal
sea clay with micronized algae, to tone and condition
the skin and the warmth from the sea clay speeding up
results. I would recommend a monthly treatment as a
maintenance plan and then a short concentrated course
prior to your next holiday to see the best results.

Shaping
Bunburys
future
A STEERING GROUP has now been set
up to create a master plan of how Bunbury
should look in the year 2030. The group
was formed after a meeting, organised
by Bunbury Parish Council, during which
members of the public were given the
opportunity to discuss how to make
Bunbury a better place to live, work and
play.
The idea is for the community
to develop its own voice and
use this to create a shared
vision for the future and an
action plan for turning that
vision into a reality, said
Andrew Thomson, Chairman
of The Parish Plan Steering
Group.
The Parish Plan Committee
have now met several times
and are making good progress
towards the circulation of
detailed questionnaires for
the villagers to complete and
thus help shape the future of
Bunbury. They will be ready
for distribution in the early
part of 2013, and the resulting
information will be used to
produce the Plan. We need
responses and as an incentive
it is intended to offer some
prizes to encourage everyone
to participate and have their say
about our village. If you require
any further information please
contact Andrew Thomson 01829
261805.

THE Vicshave both done well over the past weeks, with the First Team enjoying wins over Egerton
FC and Congleton Vale FC in the Cheshire League Division Two.
Egerton FC departed the Flacca after being beaten 3-2 in a closely fought encounter, while the trip
back from Congleton was made all the more enjoyable after a hard fought 1-0 away win. A defeat to
Maine Road was the only low point of the month, although the 3-1 score line does not do justice to
Tarporley Vics players following a highly competitive match.
Tarporley Vics Reserves have only played twice recently, with one defeat and one win added
to their record. The 5-0 defeat to Barnton Wanderers in the Crewe FC Junior Shield was to be
expected, as Barnton play in a higher division than Tarporley.
The win against Cuddington Reserves was excellent and the young squad enjoyed the majority
of possession and chances in a game they won 3-2. The result gave Tarporley Reserves their
rst points of the season in only their third league xture. A run of six league games in the weeks
leading up to Christmas will now allow the Reserves Team the ability to build some consistency
and momentum as they look to climb the table and challenge local rivals Duddon and Crewe FC
Reserves at the top of the league
Thanks to sponsors
Tarporley Vics would like to thank Clare & Rob from the Village Butchers for their sponsorship over
the past ve seasons. Their kind donations have helped Tarporley Vics continued development and
we will be always grateful for their generosity.

HE was born and raised
about 65 miles from the
16th century home of the
worlds favourite street
food.
Now he is sharing the
authentic secrets of
traditional Neapolitan pizzas
with Royal Oak customers
near his new home in
Kelsall.
Claudio is head pizza
chef at Colosimos pizzeria
- the Royal Oaks new
alternative to its popular
Oak Restaurant.
We didnt want to go down
the usual pizza route, says
the manager, Scott Lucy.
We knew that the success
of Colosimos will rely on
serving up the real deal and
that means someone who
understands what real pizza
is all about. Thats Claudio.
The 45 year-old Italian
was born and raised in the
historic central province of
Isernia where many of his
family still live.
When he left school he was
a barman before moving
into kitchen work. I began
by washing plates, he says,
but I watched and learned
and slowly I made my way
up until I became a head
pasta and pizza chef.
Difference
Claudio arrived in England
25 years ago - and found
that authentic Neapolitan
pizzas were thin on the
ground.
The secret, he says, is
in the naturally leavened,
slow-rising sourdough that
he makes himself with our,
salt and oil.
Many people make this
differently, he says. Some
use semolina but I believe
the best way is to keep
it simple. And you have
to know when its ready.
You can tell by the way it
feels. You can then choose
whatever toppings you like -
but nothing too rich.
But the secrets dont end
there. Colosimos has
specially imported the only
Italian wood-red stone
oven of its kind in Cheshire.
The MAM oven, made by a
family business in Modena,
Italy, has a worldwide
reputation as one of the
nest commercial wood
ovens available. It burns
100% beech sawdust
briquettes to bake pizzas at
blistering temperatures up to
500oc.

Staggeringly there are nearly 10 million
people in the United Kingdom who suffer from
some form of hearing loss with 170,000
people suffering with noise related deafness
or tinnitus as a result of exposure to
excessive noise at work. These conditions
are permanent and the over 50s are
significantly affected by this condition.
Hearing loss is a common injury that can
remain unnoticed for years as it develops
gradually and people often put it down to age.

Tinnitus is the medical name for those
suffering from a buzzing or ringing noise in
their head. Approximately one in seven
people are known sufferers of tinnitus. The
condition is believed to originate from over-
active nerve cells within the hearing area of
the brain.
Employers have been under a duty to protect
employees from excessive noise since 1963.
This means that in many cases, those
suffering from noise induced hearing loss
and/or tinnitus can make a claim for
compensation against the employers, or
where they are no longer trading, their
insurers.
Here at QualitySolicitors Oliver & Co our
specialise Deafness Solicitors understand
that losing any proportion of hearing can have
a much wider effect on your life.
One of the concerns that we hear is that
some people feel it is more difficult to move
around as easily as they used to. This is
highlighted in a new study by the Johns
Hopkins University School of Medicine that
showed mild hearing loss can so much as
triple the risk of a person suffering from a fall.
The study believes that the reason for this is
the brains inability to focus as much as it
normally would on balance and gait, when it
is struggling with processing sounds. The
findings highlight that people with only a mild
hearing loss, at around 25dB, were
staggeringly at least 3 times more likely to
fall.

WINTER COLOUR
GARDENING B GG Y JANET Y HEATH
DECEMBER is a quiet time in the R
garden but there are plants that will
lift the spirit by the beauty of the
form, foliage or owers. Berries on
trees and shrubs give Christmas cheer
and this year there has been a good
show.
I love the varieties of Cotoneaster with
their cheerful red berries. Cotoneaster
horizontalis has herring bone like stems that
grow at against walls. Red berries remain
on the stems for a while after the leaves
have dropped giving a lovely effect against
a fence or wall. Larger Cotoneasters such
a Cotoneaster frigidus Cornubia is a shrub
which is semi evergreen and has clusters of red
berries till the birds eat them in cold weather.
Cotoneaster lacteus is evergreen with arching
branches laden with red berries and looks
stunning as a specimen small tree in a lawn.
Most Cotoneasters have white owers in early
spring and their leaves colour well in autumn
plus the bonus of berries in winter so think
about having one in your garden.
Beautiful bark is a feature of winter and the
pale cream or white of silver birches is well
worth seeing against a dark background.
Other trees with beautiful bark are the Acers,
especially Acer griseum with peeling coppery
bark which is a good tree for a sheltered spot
in smaller gardens. Similar copper colour
comes from Prunus serrula bark which has
a smooth texture and polish to the bark that
the Acer griseum lacks. Snake bark Acers such
as Acer davidii (Snakebark Acer) and Acer
pensylvanicum (Striped maple) have green and
white striped bark.
Frost on plants looks fresh and sparkling on
Holly or Heuchera plants. Heucheras tend to
keep some of their foliage in winter making
them valuable perennials for year round
interest. The photo of Heuchera Rufes with
frosted leaves is beautiful picture on a crisp
sunny morning.
Continue to tidy up in the garden by cutting
down dead foliage and pruning overgrown
shrubs. Make sure plants like Hostas,
Rodgersias and Paeonies, with their large leaf
buds, have a mulch of well rotted manure over
and around their crowns to protect them from
frost.
Weed the vegetable beds and add a layer of
organic matter such as well rotted manure. No
need to dig it in just let the worms take it down
into the soil for you.

Tarporley Talk December 2012 85
Peckforton and Beeston WI
Our AGM was most enjoyable, and our existing committee re-elected with Liz Jones as President.
Bobby Nancarrow gave a humourous account of her trip to the magnifcent Albert Hall as the
local group delegate at the WI conference. An excellent supper followed, which had again been
prepared by Libby Warriner. There followed a talk by Ann Grundy who had been a successful
contestant on the television programme Deal or No Deal. She was able to overcome her nerves
and Deal correctly to come away with 10,000.
We are looking forward to our December 5th meeting when Penny Rudd will talk to us about
Chester Zoo and the last 30 years and then our Christmas Party on 14th December.
NOTE At our Summer Garden Party, during which there was a terrifc rain storm, someone
borrowed a terracotta feece from Libby. She would be very pleased if those attending the event
could check to see if they have it somewhere so that it can be returned.
