The Challenges

Municipalities are challenged with aging water facilities, increased capacity

requirements, environmental concerns and regulatory demands.
Distributed control systems in water treatment processes are often a patchwork of
various suppliers equipment, programming packages, networks and visualization
systems - requiring ongoing costs for extra engineering, programming, wiring,
training and maintenance.
Manual data collection and reporting is time-consuming and costly, with valuable
information on plant performance, ef ciency, historical trending and monitoring
locked on the plant foor.
Huge energy consumers, like the municipal pumps used in the water industry,
add signifcant overall operating costs.
With the constant pressure of maintenance, engineering and total life-cycle costs,
capacity, quality and regulatory compliance; the need for real-time information is
greater than ever.

Plant-wide Control Systems
The PlantPAx Process Automation System from
Rockwell Automation delivers the data you need, when you
need it, to help confgure, control and optimize your operations.
Using Integrated Architecture technologies, the FactoryTalk
Integrated Production and Performance Software Suite and the
Logix platform, PlantPAx provides integrated monitoring and
alerting, and detailed diagnostic and historical data, to help you
reduce engineering time, and installation and maintenance costs.
Monitor. Control. Report.
Easy access to production and equipment information enables
faster troubleshooting, better decision-making, predictive failure
data, and environmental compliance reports.
Allen-Bradley ControlLogix programmable automation
controllers or PACs - are fully integrated and ofer real-time
visibility into monitoring water quality, trending of loads,
levels and clarity, and detailed alarming, data collection and
automated reporting. The Logix platform helps protect critical
processes from unscheduled downtime.
FactoryTalk Historian software enables a powerful search engine
and reporting tools, while RSLogix 5000 software reduces
programming time by re-using the library code of integrated
logic blocks for each device.
Remote terminal units enabled by PlantPAx access all process
and motor controls via high-speed dual fber-optic networks.
Maintenance staf can monitor remote sites, view alarm and
historical data, and diagnose problems without leaving the facility.
Reduce Energy Use
AC drives, motor starters, and process instruments are also
integrated into the PlantPAx process control system.
Allen-Bradley PowerFlex variable frequency AC drives help to
improve speed and power control, reduce energy use, and
provide communications for motor speed, voltage, power
consumption, and fault conditions. With the Powermonitor 3000,
operators can monitor power in pumping stations, electrical
rooms, and purifcation and water-discharging equipment.
Reduce your operating costs, total cost of ownership and provide
future expandability with full support services and solutions
from Rockwell Automation.
Water and wastewater solutions that help you achieve
plant-wide process control to save time and money.
