TEN REASON TO LOVE WATSON'S THEORY

I have ten reasons to love and choose Jean Watsons theory, not only is Watsons theory about caring but also it emphasizes the humanistic aspects of nursing along with combining the scientific knowledge. As I study this theory I began to see that all of the 10 factors of Watsons theory I was applying already at my job, I work at a nursing home and our model is Caring for the Body and the Spirit, and our goal is meeting the physical, social, and spiritual needs of individuals through comprehensive long-term and short-term health care. As a nurse I am able to apply these 10 carative factors which are as stated in Nursing Today book, by practicing love and kindness to myself and the residents I am caring for, given them faith and hope in how we implement that care that is being provided, nurturing each individuals belief and practices, and helping the resident develop trust-caring relationship with the staff, so they are able to communicate their feelings and express what they are going through. Then we have a team that uses problem-solving methods for making caring decisions to assist the resident and be able to meet their basic physical, emotional, and spiritual human needs with respect and human dignity and being open to mystery and miracle, for many have happen in the years I work there. As the charge nurse of the floor we play a vital role to each resident and family, we become more than just the care provider, we become part of their family. I fully agree with Jane Watsons belief that nursing can be a transformation process through which both the patient and nurse can be changed. According to Watson, caring is a nurses identity and when caring is fully actualized, a patients world can become more secure, brighter, richer, and larger. I have had the privilege to meet many residents and they have become a part of my life, just as I believe that I made a difference in their life, they have also made an impact in my life and I have grown as an individual.
