Aardman studios How do they create animations?

Aardman studios as very well known for their creation of the Wallace and Gromit series. This has been around for many years starting in December 1989 to this present day. The genre of this series is stop motion, clay animation, comedy, humor and animation. Wallace and Gromit is generated using stop motion. The characters within the production are made of clay. There are many different job roles that have to be done in order to make these films such as directors, assistant directors, art directors, assistant directors, animators, assistant animators, editors, model makers, sculpters and painters. Job Roles Directors and assistants The directors job within this production is to be in charge of the overall responsibility for the presentation of the entire project. The directors of Wallace and Gromit are Nick Park, Steve Box and Christopher Sadler. These three would have collaborated each others idea in order to come out with a finished project. The typical aspects of their job roles would be to look over programming and their budget, analyzing scripts and many other things. An example of this could be when a set designer needs some material, they would have had to come to these directors in order for them to check their budget before ordering whatever they need.

Art Directors and assistants The Art directors and the assistants jobs within the production of Wallace and Gromit would have been to design sets on the aesthetic purposes so this would be things like what a building could have on the side of it, what markings etc. An example of this being done within Wallace and Gromit would have been to create pictures of the sets of the village in Wallace and grommit, this could be done using a hand drawn image scanned into a computer and make into a 3D model. Art directors also are in charge of creating posters for the movie in order for it to be noticed everywhere.

Animators and assistants An animator and assistants job would include generating multiple images that are called frames on a computer. These images are then placed into a sequence together at a rapid succession. Animators can work within 2D animation but also 3D model making animation. An example of this job being presented within the production of Wallace and Gromits Ware-rabbit would have been the staff on computers clicking through each shot and splicing them together to generate a sequence.

Editors An editors job would include preparing edit copies of the production. Sometimes they may have to rewrite to improve the final piece or either supervise other assistant editors do these kinds of jobs. Within the production of Wallace and gromit, the editors would have to accumulate all of the footage filmed and place each shot into an order so that each of them link up to tell the story. They would also have to analyze each shot to make sure there is nothing wrong with continuity etc.

Model Makers, Sculptors and painters Model makers must have extreme precision within their job roles. Especially within the making of Wallace and Gromit, hundreds and hundreds of models were made for every scene of Wallace and Gromit, and not every scene was filmed perfect first try, so the model makers had to be extremely careful when making these models to make sure in two different scenes the model didnt look different. The sculptors and painters within the production of Wallace and gromit had the job of generating ideas and creating buildings for sets on each scene. Similarly to the model makers as well as the painters, extreme precision is needed when making these because this could possibly bring up continuity errors within the shots. Painters would have to paint every model with extreme care and each set.

Aardman studios are mostly known for creating the pair known as Wallace and Gromit. They have also made other largely known movies such as Chicken Run. This is similar to Wallace and Gromit in terms of how it is made, using clay animation. The camera techniques that this studio use for most of their clay animation films is stop motion animation as I have explained in the first paragraph.
