Pathogen: An agent of disease Etiology: The science that deals with the causes or origin of disease Pathogenesis: The

development of a disease. The origin of a disease and the chain of events leading to that disease Predisposing factor: any physiologic factor that influences the possibility of disease development Natural history of disease: a description of the uninterrupted progression of the disease (it is not treated or manipulated in any way) in an individual from the moment of exposure to the causal agents until recovery or death Morbidity: a diseased condition; the state of being diseased Mortality: related to death caused by disease Lesion: any pathological or traumatic discontinuity of tissue or loss of function of a part. Diagnosis: the opinion of disease process, derived from evaluation and examination Prognosis: a prediction of the probable outcome of a disease based on the condition of the person and the usual course of the disease as observed in similar situations. Sign: an indication of the existence of something; any objective evidence of a disease, i.e., such evidence as is perceptible to the examining physician, as opposed to the subjective sensations of the patient. Symptom: any subjective evidence of disease experienced or perceived by a patient Physical sign: an objective indicator found during physical diagnosis or detected by inspection, palpation, percussion, or auscultation (clinical examination)
