APPLICATION
Description : Memory cells have been protected from soft errors for more than a decade, due to the increase in soft error rate in logic circuits, because of increase of clock speed in large scale integrated circuits. The encoder and decoder circuitry around the memory blocks have become susceptible to soft errors as well and must also be protected. This work is a description of error detection, correction in encoders and decoders surrounding to memory elements, for protecting the memory elements from soft errors by using hamming and Euclidean geometry codes. By using the verilog hardware description language, the Fault Tolerant Memory Architecture will be simulated for error correction and detection by using above mentioned techniques and compare their performance. 16. COLOR HISTOGRAM FEATURES BASED IMAGE CLASSIFICATION IN CONTENT BASED IMAGE RETRIEVAL SYSTEMS
Description: The histogram of an image is a plot of the gray level values or the intensity values of a color channel versus the number of pixels at that value. The shape of the histogram provides us with information about the nature of the image, or sub image if we are considering an object within the image. For example, a very narrow histogram implies a low contrast image, a histogram skewed toward the high end implies a bright image, and a histogram with two major peaks, called bimodal, implies an object that is in contrast with the background. The histogram features that we will consider are statistical-based features, where the histogram is used as a model of the probability distribution of the intensity levels. 19. HIGH SPEED RF MULTI-MODULUS PRESCALER ARCHITECTURE FOR FRACTIONAL-N PLL FREQUENCY SYNTHESIZER
Description: This paper describes the design of a multi-modulus prescaler for fractional N frequency-synthesizer. A new architecture is proposed to increase the critical time window for correct division. Quantification of the improvement of the architecture is done on the behavioral and transistor levels. The architecture is used to implement a multi-modulus prescaler with division factor 64-127 in a SiGe 0.35 um BiCMOS technology with f o of 60GHz . The architecture improves the maximum operating frequency of the prescaler by 50%. Post layout simulations indicate the prescaler can operate at an input frequency of 3.2GHz while consuming only 6.4mW, with a phase noise floor of -132dBc/Hz ,and up to 4.6GHz while consuming 14mW. 20. GAUSSIAN PROCESS REGRESSION FOR SPEECH ENHANCEMENT USING KALMAN FILTER
Descriptions: In many practical situations speech signal gets corrupted by the addition of noise. As a matter of fact the presence of noise can result in appreciable degradation in quality and intelligibility of the speech. This degradation not only cause difficulty in interpreting and understanding the speech, but it can also leads to problems in automatic speech recognition and speaker recognition. Hence speech enhancement process places a major role in present day scenario.Since speech is non-stationary, it is common practice to segment the speech into short overlapped frames and assume the signal to be stationary with in each frame. The kalman filter algorithm based on the non-stationary signal model is able to partially avoid the commonly used quasi stationary assumption of the speech. The nonstationary of the signal is fully exploited in suppressing the noise power. Applying kalman filtering for speech enhancement consists of two steps. (1) Estimation of speech model parameters and noise variance. (2) Applying kalman filtering algorithm using estimated parameter values. 24. GSM BASED WIRELESS HOME APPLICATION MONITORING AND CONTROL SYSTEM
Description: This project presents the emerging applications of the GSM technology. Using the public GSM networks, a home automation system has been proposed, designed, implemented and tested. The design of a stand-alone embedded system that can monitor and control home appliances locally using built-in input and output peripherals is presented. Remotely, the system allows the homeowner monitoring and controlling the house appliances via the mobile phone set by sending commands in the form of SMS messages and receiving the appliances status from any location i.e., global accessing . The GSM modem provides the communication media between the homeowner and the system by means of SMS messages. Description: Channel estimation and prediction algorithms are developed and evaluated for use in broadband adaptive OFDM downlinks over fading channels for vehicular users. Accurate channel estimation may be obtained by using a combined pilot aided and decision-directed approach based on Kalman filtering and prediction. The correlation properties of the channel in both time and space are taken into account. Kalman performance at much lower computational complexity is attained with recently developed constant gain adaptation laws. We present and evaluate a state-space realization of such an adaptation law, with computational complexity of the order of the square of the number of parallel tracked pilot sub carriers Tools required: MAT Lab: Version 7.0 Estimated Man Hours to complete project: 105 hrs*2 students=210 hrs Abstract preparation 10 hrs Literature survey 18 hrs Design document 9 hrs Implementation 34 hrs Testing 9 hrs Result analysis 10 hrs Document preparation 14hrs Seminars(4*20mins) 1hr 20 mins Knowledge test 40min ---------------------------------------------Total (approx) 105 hrs ---------------------------------------------Suggested Readings i) Books 1. 37. DEVELOPING ZIGBEE DEPLOYMENT GUIDELINE INTERFERENCE FOR SMART GRID APPLICATIONS
Description:
UNDER
WI-FI
Smart grid is an intelligent power generation, distribution, and control system. ZigBee, as a wireless mesh networking scheme low in cost, power, data rate, and complexity, is ideal for smart grid applications, e.g., real-time system monitoring, load control, and building automation. Unfortunately, almost all ZigBee channels overlap with wireless local area network (WLAN) channels, resulting in severe performance degradation due to interference. In this paper, we aim to develop practical ZigBee deployment guideline under the interference of WLAN. We identify the Safe Distance and Safe Offset Frequency using a comprehensive approach including theoretical analysis, software simulation, and empirical measurement. In addition, we propose a frequency agility-based interference avoidance algorithm. The proposed algorithm can detect interference and adaptively switch nodes to safe channel to dynamically avoid WLAN interference with small latency and small energy consumption. Our proposed scheme is implemented with a Meshnetics ZigBit Development Kit and its performance is empirically evaluated in terms of the packet error rate (PER) using a ZigBee and Wi-Fi coexistence test bed. It is shown that the empirical results agree with our analytical results. The measurements demonstrate that our design guideline can efficiently mitigate the effect of Wi-Fi interference and enhance the performance of ZigBee networks. 38. REMOTE SENSING AND CONTROL OF AN IRRIGATION SYSTEM USING A DISTRIBUTED WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORK
Description: Efficient water management is a major concern in many cropping systems in semiarid and arid areas. Distributed in-field sensor-based irrigation systems offer a potential solution to support site-specific irrigation management that allows producers to maximize their productivity while saving water. This paper describes details of the design and instrumentation of variable rate irrigation, a wireless sensor network, and software for real-time infield sensing and control of a site-specific precision linear-move irrigation system. Field conditions were sitespecifically monitored by six in-field sensor stations distributed across the field based on a soil property map, and periodically sampled and wirelessly transmitted to a base station. An irrigation machine was converted to be electronically controlled by a programming logic controller that updates georeferenced location of sprinklers from a differential Global Positioning System (GPS) and wirelessly communicates with a computer at the base station. Graphic user interface-based software developed in this paper offered stable remote access to field conditions and real-time control and monitoring of the variable-rate irrigation controller. 39. PREAMBLE-BASED SNR ESTIMATION ALGORITHM FOR WIRELESS MIMO OFDM SYSTEMS
Description: Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) offers high data rates and robust performance in frequency selective channels by link adaptation utilizing information about the channel quality. Combined with multiple input multiple-output (MIMO) technique it provides improved link reliability and increased data rate. A crucial parameter required for adaptive transmission is the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). In this paper, we propose a novel SNR estimation algorithm for wireless 22 MIMO OFDM systems based on the reuse of the synchronization preamble. The periodic structure of the preamble is utilized for the computationally efficient estimation of average SNR and SNRs per subcarrier, based on the second-order moments of received preamble samples. The performance of the proposed algorithm is assessed for channels with different levels of frequency selectivity. Simulation results show robust performance of proposed algorithm even in strong frequency selective channels. Tools Required: . DEVELOPMENT
OF
SECURED
WIRELESS
DATA
The present existing method consists of a different wireless technology where the data is transmitted between different devices but the data transmission is not secured and the power consumption is also more. These wireless data transmission cannot transmit the data correctly which was insecure to transmit. We can overcome the disadvantage of the existing method by using zigbee technology which is low cost which allows the technology to be widely deployed in wireless control and monitoring applications, the low power-usage allows longer life with smaller batteries, and the mesh networking provides high reliability and larger range. ZigBee has been developed to meet the growing demand for capable wireless networking between numerous low power devices. In industry ZigBee is being used for next generation automated manufacturing, with small transmitters in every device on the floor, allowing for communication between devices to a central computer. 45. IMPLEMENTATION OF OBSTACLE AVOIDANCE AND ZIGBEE CONTROL FUNCTIONS FOR OMNI DIRECTIONAL MOBILE ROBOT
Description: In the existing method we can control the robot by using the RF remote control which consumes more power and which is not secured for wireless transmission of commands for controlling robot. The omni directional configuration is a most suggested mechanism for mobile robot, which have the capability of changing directions within the limited space in the indoor environment. The ODMR (Omni directional mobile robot) uses IR sensor to sense the obstacle and send the obstacle distance signal to embedded controller. The embedded controller receives these obstacle detecting signals and then calculates the control signals to drive the motors to change the direction for the robot. ZigBee interface is also provided on the robot to give some control signals from the Personal computer attached with ZigBee enabled circuit. Using this ZigBee interface we can control the direction, speed for the robot. Tools required: Embedded C , S3C2440 (ARM9) Microcontroller

47. WIRELESS SECURITY CONTROL SYSTEM & SENSOR NETWORK FOR SMOKE & FIRE DETECTION Description:
The main aim of this project is to develop a wireless security control system for smoke and fire detection. The requirement for the project is to design and to create a functional smoke detector. After detecting smoke or a high temperature (potential fire), the detector sets off the appropriate alarm sound. The detector also transmits an RF signal to the other smoke detectors in the network so that those detectors, in turn, sound their alarm. Each detector is capable of sounding four different alarms. There is a smoke, temperature, low battery, and received alarm. The purpose of this project is to detect the fire and transmit information by using wireless network. 52. ELECTRONIC PASSPORT AND THE FUTURE OF GOVERNMENT ISSUED RFID BASED IDENTIFICATION
Description: The present existing method passport book is an identity of an person to travel in airways. Nowadays passport can be easily misused by creating the duplicates ones by just changing the photos and details inside it. The checking of the passport manually is time taking process and also it is not possible to identify whether the passport valid or invalid.. In the proposed method we overcome the disadvantage of existing method by using RFID technology instead of passport as a book. Here the passport book is replaced by an identity card called as RFID card which contains only TAG number but not the details of the person. 57. CALCULATION OF BIT ERROR RATE FOR BPSK FOR RAYLEIGH CHANNEL
Description : Digital communication is gaining priority in todays world for its own advantages. During the transmission data is lost due reflections from buildings, trees and vehicles. BPSK is less immune to noise hence there is a data loss due to it also. Hence it is necessary to calculate the data lost, which is estimated using bit error rate concept. So a random BPSK signal with bit sequences +1 and -1 is generated. Multiply the symbols with the time varying channel and then add the Rayleigh noise. At the receiver, equalize (divide) the received symbols with the known channel. Perform hard decision decoding and count the bits errors. The BER results obtained using Matlab/Octave simulation scripts show good agreement with the derived theoretical results. 63. AUTOMATIC TWO GATE CONTROL SYSTEM FOR TOLL TAX COLLECTION
Description: When we travel in highways, we generally come across toll tax collecting systems. Toll tax is a tax collected by some authorities who build those roads. In the existing system, we need manual operation to control (open or close) the gates. This proposal provides an automatic control of the gates reducing the manual operation and also decreasing the cost. The system opens the entry gate if any vehicle is detected in front of the gate. After vehicle enters, it closes the gate. After person pays the tax and stands near the exit gate, this gate will be opened and after it exits, it closed. The system is designed such that when one vehicle exits, then only another vehicle enters. Tools Required: Keil microvision-3 and Flash magic and AT89S52/LPC2148.
