Hebrews 7:25-28

November 18, 2012 We have a priest who lives forever and who does His job perfectly:

Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, He is able to save them perfectly. Aarons priesthood couldnt save anyone perfectly because of its weakness. seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. How do we know that Christ can save anyone perfectly? We know because of His eternal life. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life (Rom. 5:10). He only offers one sacrifice, but He always intercedes for us because He always lives. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us (Rom. 8:34). When it says that He makes intercession it means that He talks to God on our behalf. Think about how Moses did this for the Israelites: I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to shew you the word of the LORD: for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount (Dt. 5:5). Another time the people made the golden calf and And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.32Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin--; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written (Ex. 32:27-28). To have an intercessor is important, but If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat for him? (I Sam. 2:25). But we have an intercessor who is promised to come: He hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors (Is. 53:10-12), and Jesus claimed to be that intercessor when He said, no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (Jn. 14:6). His intercession is so complete and perfect that theres no room to add to His work: For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus (I Tim. 2:5). This is why Aarons priesthood (and every priesthood) is nullified. Our High Priest lives forever interceding perfectly.

The result of this is (1) true forgiveness: If any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world (I Jn. 2:1-2) and (2) eternal life: And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance (Heb. 9:15):

For such an high priest became us, who is holy,

Think back to Exodus 28:36-38 where he says, And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD. 37And thou shalt put it on a blue lace, that it may be upon the mitre [turban]; upon the forefront of the mitre [turban] it shall be. 38And it shall be upon Aarons forehead, that Aaron may bear the iniquity of the holy things [bear the guilt associated with the offerings], which the children of Israel shall hallow in all their holy gifts; and it shall be always upon his forehead, that they may be accepted before the LORD. He is appointed by God to bear our sin. harmless, The Greek word for evil is (kakos), and here we read that Jesus is (akakos) or without evil. He is innocent. Hes not like the other priest who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity (Heb. 5:2). Rather, we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin (Heb. 4:15). undefiled, The Greek word (miaino) means to dye something with another color or to stain something. Here we find that our High Priest is (amiantos)theres nothing in His nature that will sin! separate from sinners, The priests were sinners, and they were in the same boat as us, but Jesus didnt share our sin nature, and He was not prone to sin! He lived with us, but He wasnt like us.

and made higher than the heavens; This is our High Priests positionHe is higher than the highest. The benefit for believing in Him is that Hes not just a man. Hes not a guilty sinner, and He can actually purify us from guilt:

Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the peoples: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. Just look at the comforts that come from this passage: 1. All our sin is completely covered with no more need for sacrifice! 2. We have no guilt or reason to feel guilty! 3. Our salvation in Him is eternally secure! 4. We have no need for the Law or for the temple or any other shadow. 5. Hes more than a mediatorHe is the sacrifice!

For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore. The Greek word for consecrated is used all over the Bible, but its almost always translated as perfect or finished.
