Discovering Ancient Rome Barn first day Train Departure from Montserrat in the footsteps of Lawrence.

Arrival in Mandas and check-in. Dinner and overnight. Second day: Guided tour around the old town of Mandas. Along the way we will visit the ethnographic museum "I Lollasa de is Aiaiusu" (revived in a typical house of the nineteenth century that contains an extensive collection of objects and tools of the same period, household chores, agricultural and pastoral), the Museum of Sacred Art "Peregrinatio Fidei" (ideally connected to the Santiago chimney, which houses a collection of priceless value of sacred silver which lie in an arc of time from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century) and the convent of the Friars Minor with the church of San Francis, dating back to 1600. Lunch at the Agriturismo. After lunch, transfer by train to Senorb where we will visit the Archaeological Museum Sa Domu Nosta, here in addition to the permanent exhibition rooms where we could see precious artefacts from the Neolithic, we could begin to explore the theme of the cultivation and consumption of cereals during the Punic period, with particular attention to the political implications of economic and cultural challenges related the territory. Return in the evening to Mandas with the train. Dinner and overnight. Third day: After breakfast, transfer by minibus to Ortacesus. Ortacesus is an area that since the times of the Romans in Sardinia is dedicated to the cultivation of durum wheat. After a short visit in the wheat fields of Ortacesus we move into the center of the village near the ancient house Serra, an ethnographic museum that shows faithfully some slices of everyday life related to wheat and its transformation. An educational experience that allows us to understand and appreciate the work needed to produce the bread the staple of the traditional diet of Sardinia. The mill, the oven, sieves, the measures and the rich ethnographic clearly explain the steps that bring from wheat to bread. An active laboratory where the participants will make the pintau bread, the bread of the parties, has enriched the guided tour of the museum. A section of the museum is dedicated to the great launeddas player master Burranca Dionysius, in the room reserved to him you can listen to interviews and traditional music that will make us relive the atmosphere of the time. After the visit to the museum and the active laboratory we will move in the Santa Marta restaurant where we could enjoy a lunch which evokes some traditional country dishes such as simbua fritta, simbua incasada, pani, indorau e suppas During the afternoon a guided tour of Gesico the "land of the seven churches". Gesico is also famous for its Murals and sculptures, works performed by the major Sardinia artists. Here they find the atmosphere more 'suited to their inspirations". Visit to one of the most important churches: Santa Maria Itria and guided tour of the seven churches. Return in the evening for dinner and overnight in Mandas.

Fourth day: Breakfast and departure by minibus to the town of Orroli. Our tour begins with a visit, at the bakery Kentos, an example of a modern and functional company with a strong link to traditions and territory. Here you will learn the steps of breadmaking and you will taste the traditional breads made with durum wheat varieties of Senatore Cappelli from organic and natural yeast. Then after a short walk we move at the house-museum Omu Axiu, an old manor house belonging to the family Vargiu, where we can observe the necessary utensils for daily activities that took place in the past not too far away and come back to life in the rooms of the local history museum, following the natural vocation and history of the house. After visiting the museum, there will be a workshop on traditional bread, then lunch with local products. Variant 1 In the afternoon we will move to the nearby town of Nurri at the mill "stone and wheat". A town once famous for the stone-cutters who worked the stones for the construction of the mills.Angelo Anedda continues the tradition of his family, and still grinds only the Sardinian durum wheat variety Senatore Cappelli certified organic. Finally we will visit the beautiful Nuraghe Arrubiu one of the most important megalithic and massive monuments of the island that is located in the paronamic plateau Pranemuru. Comment The package, designed with the aim to exploit the public transport and to reduce transport costs, provides minimum 15 maximum 18 participants, with departures calendar. Participants can come as tourists from different parts of Italy or Europe, the first day is dedicated to arrival in Sardinia, according to the different time of arrival; the accommodation for this typology of tourist package can be located not only in Mandas but also in Senorb or Suelli.
