06 October 2012 VILMA L. COMODA, MAN, RN, CSEE Chief Nurse / Nurse VII Southern Philippines Medical Center JP Laurel Avenue, Davao City Dear Maam, Greetings! Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are by far the leading cause of death in lower-middle, upper-middle and high-income countries, and by 2015, they will also be the leading cause of death in low-income countries. The International Council of Nurses and Pfizer launched the campaign against non-communicable diseases wherein nurses lead the fight against NCDs through the Wellness Tree Approach. As the first chapter of the PNA to launch the Wellness during our 2012 Regional Assembly, we shall start launching this program in the different hospitals and colleges of nursing. We are requesting your good office to allow us to conduct a one (1) hour lecture on Challenges of Non-communicable Diseases: Wellness Tree to your nursing staff at their most convenient time. The Wellness Tree illustrates some of the components that can influence health and wellbeing for individuals and societies. Education can empower others to take the necessary steps to lessen the global and individual burden of NCDs. We will coordinate with your office for your schedule. We would also need your assistance in terms of venue and audio-visual equipment. Thank you and more power! Sincerely, ROGER P. TONG AN, DM-PA, MAN, RN Governor, Region XI
