Synopsis: Join John Smith as he brings us around the most expensive cities to live in; Tokyo. With only USD$100 armed in his pockets, John brings us to places for lodging, food and even the place to see the best views of Tokyo at night! A must-watch for avid travellers who treks the globe with a budget in mind!

Today were going to explore Tokyo on a tight budget and show you guys that I can survive this city with just USD$100 which is approximately 8000 Yen in Japanese dollars. SOUND ON TAPE: John Smith Tokyo is one of the most expensive places to live in due to high cost of living, but with this little money, I can eat, stay and travel for the day with still spare change left. Despite its enormous size and high-tech opulence, much of the city is remarkably affordable for budget travellers. Lets go check it out! Tokyo Metro is one of the busiest subways in the world, with daily ridership of 6.3 million people. Thats 20 per cent of the total population in the city of Tokyo! But before we go anywhere, lets get a ticket to our ride first. SOUND ON TAPE: John Smith Lets see, the journey from Shinkuju to Nezu is 350 Yen. How about if I buy a Day Pass? Its only 710 Yen! So I can travel wherever I want on the Tokyo Metro with just 710 Yen. Thats worth the money. Okay Ill get the Day Pass. Music: The Journey Socci & Pency VO: John Smith

The 60 minutes train ride was a pleasant one with beautiful sceneries before my very eyes. The ride feels short with so much to see and experience and the seats were comfortable too. The comfort and warmth of this place can be felt just as I step foot into the inn. The smile and greetings from the innkeeper made us felt like home. Music: A Place In Another Spring Yuriko Nakamura VO: John Smith The room is fantastic, with a mixture traditional Japanese design and Western influences. Theres a bed to sleep on yet the floor is laid with Tatami mats. Theres even a bathtub in the bathroom, as opposed to public baths in most inns. The scenery outside is fantastic, with a traditional Japanese garden right outside your window. This is a totally incredible place at this price point! SOUND ON TAPE: John Smith Okay weve left 4290 Yen to spend for the day. Now weve settled for a place, lets head out in search of some good food in Tokyo. Im thinking of some sushi. Theres only one place to go if were looking for fresh fish! Lets go! Music: Gringo Frank McDonald & Chris Rae VO: John Smith Well now head south on the Tokyo Metro to the worlds biggest fish market: Tsukiji Fish Market. The ride is approximately only 30 minutes and with our Day Pass, it saved us 160 Yen of transportation fee.

VO: John Smith Tsukiji Fish market is the largest and busiest fish market in the world. With more the 700,000 tons of seafood handled every year; its one of the important places to visit for seafood lovers. Bidding for fresh catches is one of the olden practices that still exist even up till today. VO: John Smith Ive now arrived at the Tsukiji Fish Market. This place is so huge and busy! Its bustling with life and look at the amount of fresh catches here! Everything here looks like it can be eaten straight from the net and the fishmongers are so skilful with their knife! Im so hungry, lets head over the restaurants around this market! SOUND ON TAPE: John Smith Theres so many restaurants in this place, look at the sheer amount on this aisle! I wonder which restaurant fits into our budget. Lets ask around to find out! Its one of the smallest restaurants youll find here but the selection is huge like the rest of other restaurants. Its price is low for its Sushi Lunch set which is priced at only 2000 Yen with a mug of beer included. SOUND ON TAPE: John Smith The set has a lot of different kinds of sushi as you can see from here. The fish pieces are so fresh! The daily stocks directly from the Tsukiji Fish Market made this possible. If you're looking for a cheap place for the freshiest sushi, this must be the place. I'm going to dig in. Itadakimasu! A great lunch with a great atmosphere and most importantly, at a great price! Now where should I go next? Its near evening, and I know just the place!
