He is with Tris during the first book; he later becomes a Dauntless traitor, who also secretly helps Tris to escape Jeanine, the leader of the Erudite faction. He is described as muscular, tall, with dark hair and dark green eyes.

Jeanine- The antagonist of the story, she is the leader of the Erudite Faction. She uses her power and high IQ to create an army of Dauntless and Candor faction members. ITheir purpose is to find the Divergents to make a serum for them to stop being able to manipulate the simulations. She withholds important information from the Abnegation; she also takes special interest into Caleb, as she is the sister of the Divergent. She gets killed by Tori, one of the leaders of the Dauntless, as revenge for her killing Toris brother.

Main Setting: The book starts out on a train going towards the Amity faction; from there the characters go toward the Candor faction. From there they go to the place where the factionless are, then to the Dauntless faction, and then from there they go towards the

Erudite faction. After they escape the Erudite faction, they go to what is left of Abnegation faction. From there they go back to the Amity faction and the story ends with the characters in the Erudite faction. The story takes place in dystopian Chicago, in an unknown date in the future.

Plot Outline: Tris, Four, Caleb, Peter and Marcus travel to Amity, where several surviving Abnegation are already settled in. They agree to let them reside there for a while but then they leave when the Erudite start invading. From there they are on the run and they end up on a train with the factionless. They run off and go into the Candor faction where Tris and Tobias are arrested and questioned. Later, Christina finds Tris and forgives her for killing her boyfriend. Later that night Tris gets woken up by Christina to find out that three people are standing on the roof, close to jumping off, as sort of a threat to Tris to turn herself in to the Erudite, or someone will die every day she that she does not. She turns herself into the Erudite, even though Tobias said not to. Tris is then put through a series of trials for testing, and then to be schedule for execution, which is where they find out that Caleb, is siding with the Erudite. Tris is almost executed, but Peter does her a favor and switches the serum so that instead of the death serum, it was purple dyed water. Tris, Peter, and Tobias run to Abnegation where later plans are made to attack the Erudite. They go to Amity to get the leader to come in with them. Tris goes solo and tries to find the main computer where Jeanine has important information, but she finds Tori yelling at her and later kills her. The leader of the factionless comes into power and then later gets shut down by Tobias when he finds the information that Jeanine was withholding. It is an old video featuring a woman called Amanda Ritter from an

organization fighting for justice and peace. Clips of cruelty and death and destruction pass on the screen. She says that human nature is the root of these evils, and Tris realizes that Jeanine wanted to use the simulations to keep people within the fence. Amanda says that her organization set the people inside Chicago apart from the real world so they can be in peace again. She says there will come a time when the leaders will know they need to help the rest of the world, and that will be when the Divergent are at large, those whose minds are most flexible. When the Divergent have increased in numbers, the Amity are to open the gate, the fence, forever and the population should re-enter the world. All the leaders kept this a secret and they would forget her name and make this new society. So that those who hear the message will know it is true she states that the name she will take in her new life will be Edith Prior. Video ends and everyone is talking End of the book.

Symbols: The symbols are unbalanced scales representing the Candor faction, which are the Honest. The importance is that the honesty can also change people, as Christina was a Candor but she realized that trust is not always good. Also on the front cover of the book and in the story, a tree is representing the Amity faction aka the peaceful which makes people think that everything has to be in balance with causing conflict, but in order to solve problems, things have to be in a way where conflict is going to be involved.

Style: The book is written in third-person in the eyes of Tris. The author uses minimal elevated diction and uses age appropriate vocabulary. The author uses: imagery, clichs, other figurative languages, a lot of drama dialogs, and uses a lot of suspense and humor.

Themes/Issue: The themes of the book are romance, bravery, rebellion, and betrayal. The issue of the book is Tris escaping from Jeanine and stopping the whole city destruction by the Erudite just to get the Divergent.

Quotes: Not all Erudite are power hungry and devoid of conscience unlike their leader Jeanine. Some are like Caleb, fascinated by everything, dissatisfied until they found out how it works,- Tris. While talking to Caleb, he starts talking about the new science that was discovered by the Erudite, that was going through her mind.

Well, all the faction transfers have a secret club, I say, leaning back in my chair. We meet every Thursday,- Tris. She was talking to one of the leaders of the Dauntless and she was talking about Tori and this joke was made.

You have failed . You cant control me!... She was like a machine; she was cold and emotionless I broke her, Tris. She was yelling at Jeanine during one of the trials when Jeanine was putting her in a simulation, but Tris was able to break out of it.

Insurgent, he says. Noun. A person who acts in opposition to the established authority, who is not necessarily regarded as a belligerent,- Fernando (a member of the Erudite faction who was on the side of the Divergent). He was talking to Tris before she went into the Erudite HQ.
