Of Mice, Men, & Sandy As the poet Robbie Burns pointed out, even the most carefully laid plan sometimes comes to an abrupt, unexpected end. This was certainly the case for us this month, as Hurricane Sandy swept through and carelessly brushed our conference plans aside, leaving residents of the area with far greater difficulties than mere conference planning logistics. The chaos in our office, amid boxes of now obsolete (but beautiful!) conference brochures and nametags pales in comparison to that of our East Coast friends who, as I write, are bracing themselves in preparations for a second wave of storms. At the Center, we are turning our attention to the conference that will take place in San Antonio, February 26 -28 at the Historic Menger Hotel. We sincerely hope that everyone who planned to be with us in Princeton can now join us as we celebrate a (slightly belated) 20th anniversary and look back on what will soon be our first 21 years. Until then, we will be reorganizing, sending out new and revised conference updates and doing what we can to support the folks who truly had to weather the storm. Stay safe, everyone, and we will see you in San Antonio!

Sandy Cancels ICAIs 20th Annual Conference in Princeton; Looking Ahead to 2013
By: Aaron Monson 11/08/2012

The unfortunate and untimely occurrence of Hurricane Sandy forced the

cancellation of ICAIs 20th Anniversary Conference at Princeton University. Unable to celebrate 20 years of service to the values of Academic Integrity as planned, our February 2013 event will carry the celebration over and include as many of the cancelled presentations and events as possible. To that end, it is with great pleasure that ICAI formally announces its 2013 Annual International Conference on Academic Integrity: Tuesday Thursday, February 26-28, 2013 at the Historic Menger Hotel in San Antonio! The theme for 2013 is "Academic Integrity Comes of Age." Registration will open mid-November, and the Call for Proposals is live! Please visit http://www.academicintegrity.org/icai/events-1.php to learn more. 2013 will also mark a first-time partnership with the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics (APPE). APPE hosts the annual Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl, and we are running our conferences consecutively and will offer discounted registration to APPE's conference through ICAI's registration page. APPE's meeting is Thursday, February 28 - Sunday, March 3 at the St. Anthony Hotel in San Antonio. More information on APPE and their 2013 conference can be found at: http://appeonline.com/.

Registrants may receive full refunds on 2012 registration fees. Registrants may apply 2012 registration fees to 2013. If you were scheduled to present at the 2012 conference, you automatically have a place on the 2013 schedule reserved. Call (864) 656-1293 to set up any of the above mentioned points!

Please mark your calendars and make plans to join us in San Antonio!
MSU Reinforces Honor Code with Integrity Week
By: Tevin Fowler The Reflector 10/30/2012

~Teddi Fishman

Cheating is an issue prevalent in educational institutions nationwide;

the role of the student honor code and the upcoming events is to help reduce this number at Mississippi State University. Monday was the start of Academic Integrity Week at MSU. Academic Integrity Week is hosted by MSUs Honor Code Office, library and several other departments throughout campus. Symone Bounds, first year graduate student obtaining a masters in public policy and administration, is the assistant program coordinator of Academic Integrity Week. Bounds said this is the first year MSU is having a week dedicated to educating students of the honor code. The

idea of having a week dedicated to promoting the Honor Code started when the department looked at other universities such as Texas A&M, University of Virginia, Duke University and Maryland University. James Orr, director of the Honor Code Council, said since the Honor Code was installed at MSU in 2005, keeping up with students who have violated the Honor Code has been more organized because there is a central location to keep up with sanctions. The idea behind having an honor code at MSU is not to punish students for violating the honor code, Orr said. With the Honor Code we are also looking to educate our students and promote outreach program which can help students avoid violations and academic misconduct.

Student Senator Proposes Inclusive Integrity Statement

By: Corrinne Ruff DailyIllini.com 11/02/2012

n the wake of several scandals at the www.academicintegrity.org/icai/events-1.php University over the past year, a student ___________________________________ initiative is trying to combat the depreciation of ethics and integrity on We want your feedback! Visit our redesigned and updated website and email campus. Scandals are a distraction, comments, questions, and suggestions to: said Illinois Student Senator Keenan Kassar. Our true goal is to have CAI-L@clemson.edu! superior academics. We cannot veer off of that or it will affect our academics and our budget. Kassar founded the student organization Students for a Better Illinois, through which he launched a proposal for the creation of a comprehensive integrity statement, inclusive of all students, faculty, administrators and staff. Kassar wrote a resolution for the Illinois Student Senate to propose the idea to administration, which passed at the senates meeting Wednesday. He believes having the University create such a statement would establish firm priorities with regards to integrity and set a standard for a U of I way. Shravan Gupta, sophomore, helped Kassar start Students for a Better Illinois in 2011. Gupta said students must adhere to academic integrity through the student code, but there is no statement for faculty, administration and staff. As students we care about our integrity statements, but there is nothing all-inclusive, he said. Nothing applies to all levels of governance and includes (everyone) from students up to the president.
