Cultures in America

Healthy or Not How healthy are fast food restaurants when compared to each other? Fast food has its origins in the U.S.A when the creator of McDonalds saw that young people were always in a hurry and didnt want to stop and sit down for food. So he created McDonalds and he had the very first fast food restaurant. I believe that after comparing some of the fast food giants, it will be surprising whose fast food is healthier. Two of the biggest fast food restaurants today are McDonalds and Burger King and with them they have their signature burger. McDonalds burger is the Big Mac and Burger King brings the Whopper to the table. Everyone is familiar with these burgers, but most people dont know which is worse to eat. For the Big Mac the Serving size is 215 grams while the Whopper serving size is 398 grams, that is a 183 gram difference. This next part is what I think is the biggest difference, the Big Mac has 550 calories, but the Whopper has a big 990 calories in one serving, a healthy amount of calories per day is average 2,000. So if I were to consume a Whopper I would have eaten almost half of one days calories, but if I consumed the Big Mac then that is just a little over one fourth of the days calories. For the Whopper 580 calories come from the fat in it and in the Big Mac 260 calories come from fat, so for both about half of their calories come from fat, but the Big Mac still has less. Off the evidence that I have found I believe that the Big Mac from McDonalds is healthier to eat then the Whopper from Burger King and that this evidence did surprise me and I think that it can surprise anyone. One argument could be that the Whopper gives you more meat and that is true the Whopper does include more than the Big Mac.

Mixed: Cultures There are those in the world that follow their one culture, but there are those who have come from different places and have mixed cultures. This affects that persons views and experiences. I believe that if you follow many cultures, then you really dont have one dominant culture and that where you live and grow up shapes how you experience things. Your family might have a back ground of many different places and culture, but you might not incorporate these cultures into your life. I know that my family has a lot of different cultures from different places, but we dont incorporate most of them. I have realized that we eat foods that dont have any relationship to our cultures, like Mexican food. The explanation for this is we live in an area where the Hispanic culture has a great influence so we find ourselves eating what is normal to our area. I never really thought about this and how much more it affects different aspects of life. The community that you live in influence not only your choices of food, but also your preference in other stuff, for example music. If you live in a country side place like Nashville then you are more likely to listen to country music because of the big influence that it has. My personal experience where I live there are a lot of people who listen to rap or hip- hop so I find myself listening to these types of music, but also the influence of what my family listens to like rock and alternative music. There are other influences on the things that we follow and culture is no longer the only one. Culture still has influence over our likes and dislikes, but less then what it used to be now it is more of what the community around you is in to.

True settlers What would you consider a true American race, the first people to ever live here or the first settlers of America? Well I have considered this and I say there isnt a true American race of people and who we consider a true American is really based off of the first settlers and they were white. So when people see someone who is white in America they think of them as the American race. In America there are all sorts of races like the Hispanics, the Asians, African-Americans, etc, but what is a true American? Well I believe that there is no race of Americans, but what I consider to be Americans are the people who live here and work in the U.S.A. I dont just consider the whites as American race, but everyone that has a life build in this country. Anyone who is a citizen of any country should be considered part of that country. The way things are now arent the same as they were a long time ago when the majority of a country was one race or skin color. Now we have countries like the U.S.A. where there is no majority it is just a mixture of everyone from everywhere. An example is U.S.A. back in the 1800s where most of the population was white they had the power over who ever was not white. Now modern U.S.A. there is no clear dominate race, but one race can be dominate in certain areas, and everyone has equal rights and can vote. This can also be seen in other countries around the world it just happens that U.S.A. is what people call the great melting pot. There are no defining traits to a people of one country everywhere there you go there are a mix of different people and races. The world should stop looking at different people as their race, but as where they come from, like saying Hey hes American. or French or Mexican. Looking at people and determining that they are a certain race by their color doesnt work

anymore because of mixing between people. This should be taught to kids instead of teaching them to tell people apart by color. There could be the argument that we dont teach people to tell people apart by color, but that it comes with the teaching of colors. Well I think that as soon as a child starts to that we need to tell them that you dont determine people that way. This can also be used because it is the only way to determine people by looking at them, so then dont judge a book by its cover just determine what they are after getting to know them. The world has no more boundaries or lines of determining people and separating them. As people mix and move to different counties it gets harder and harder to stick to our old ways and be right. Everyone in the world needs to adapt and learn that nothing stays the same and our old ways need to change with the other things.

Culture: What makes up yours? If someone were to come up to you on the street and ask you what your culture is, what would you tell them? Then they ask you what you base it off of. Would tell them that you base it off your religion, race, or what you have been raised to know. I believe that culture is no longer defined by one thing, but that it comes from a combination of what your family teaches you and your families traditional past and your race and religion. When you are growing up you are taught by your parents certain things you follow and the type of foods you eat. These are what some people follow as their culture, but there are people who mix these teachings with what they experience in life. When you experience something that changes the way you look at things you are sure to take that into your everyday life. So the things taught to us a children change, but we still use and remember these things to use. Some use their religion to base their culture like Catholics that I know use that as an answer to that question. When you ask them to dig deeper then they run into problems and it seems they dont know how to define what their culture is. What some do is combine their religion with their familys traditions to deepen what their culture is and have more to follow. Most culture people use comes from family traditions and background from their country. This is because it is most common, because people who immigrated to other places like the United States of America and their family traditions were all them had left from where they come from. This also carries on from the elderly that pass traditions on and it continues from one generation to the next. What happens when you have people who dont carry on the traditions of their family?

Well the families that dont follow family traditions or traditions from the country of their ancestors they do something else. Those families let their environments form their cultures, like for example my family doesnt follow or that I know of, have any traditions. As I have observed we live in a community that is primarily Hispanic and I find us eating Hispanic based foods, but when it comes to things like values and traditions we do it differently. We make our own traditions that we follow like having one grandmother over every year at Thanksgiving and the other one over during Christmas time. So my family is an example of a family that forms their own culture. I have come to realize that now with all of this mixing; relating one of the previous essays, that now more people should let their community shape their culture because of how the U.S.A. is a mixing pot of people. With the mixing old traditions are lost and some of those might not work anymore, like getting the family together every week to eat is hard if people in the family move away and they cant come to it. In this I see that it is time to start letting your surrounding form your cultures because some sentimental things just dont last the test of time or the changing world.
