R005-1213 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 90 100 110 120 130 A RESOLUTION CONCERNING: Internet Radio Royalty Rates Copyright Royalty Board Standards

s WHEREAS: Internet radio providers such as Pandora currently pay significantly higher rates to performers for the use of their music than do other digital music providers; and, The services provided are similar enough to those provided by cable and satellite radio services as to justify equal treatment; and, Leveling the playing field for digital radio services would lead to a more allocatively efficient market, providing more effectively the services which today's consumers desire at an affordable price;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Maryland Student Legislature urges the Congress of the United States to pass and the President of the United States to sign legislation requiring the Copyright Royalty Board to use the same standard for determining royalty rates for internet radio providers as other digital music providers.
