How to pray to God to the best of your knowledge

The thing we most need when we pray to God is wisdom. Unfortunately that is something that as a whole is lacking in most people. A popular saying puts it like this, common sense is very uncommon. In deciding the best approach to prayer, we must take into account that being fallible and sinful creatures, our prayers will surely be imperfect. So, if neither common sense nor sanctity is to be expected, how are we to proceed in addressing a Holy God who is likely to take exception at our infirmity? The answer to this riddle is that that same God who is offended by our sin has made a provision for the Holy Spirit to supersede us when we pray to God and transform our formerly unpleasant petition intosweet incense.

How to pray to God

Still, this doesnt mean that we are to pray to God in any fashion hoping that the Holy Spirit will put things right in the end, but our prayers must be made to the best of our knowledge; as lacking as they may be. The question remains nonetheless as to how to pray to God, and it should be addressed in all honesty, furthermore after stating how unfit we are in general to perform prayer in a proper way. The apostle James, inspired by God, writes in his epistle about the need of wisdom in the Christian life, especially when it comes to how to pray to God. He writes this But if any man among you is without wisdom, let him make his request to God, who gives freely to all without an unkind word, and it will be given to him. Let him make his request in faith, doubting nothing; for he who has doubt in his heart is like the waves of the sea, which are troubled by the driving of the wind. Let it not seem to such a man that he will get anything from the Lord. So, once we get this wisdom our prayers are spotless, right? Wrong! We will never stop being imperfect no matter how much wisdom we are given until our bodies are changed into those made in Christs image.

There is yet hope while we live here on earth that our prayers will be heard because we are given the promise that this will be so, regardless of our shortcomings And in the same way the Spirit is a help to our feeble hearts: for we are not able to make prayer to God in the right way; but the Spirit puts our desires into words which are not in our power to say; And he who is the searcher of hearts has knowledge of the mind of the Spirit, because he is making prayers for the saints in agreement with the mind of God. To put it in a nutshell, when we pray to God we are assisted by the Holy Spirit and given Gods wisdom if we request it. As a result, our prayers are pleasing to God and answered accordingly. In short, we learn how to pray to God the more we pray and the more we pray we are given more knowledge.
