WORLD SERIES OFFICE NUMBER (602) 438-0242

MSBL / MABL World Series Spotlight On Rafael Fuentes (45+ Team Victory) Maria and Carlos Fuentes sacrificed everything they had to leave Cuba and give their children the opportunity to grow up in the United States. When their son, Rafael, reflects on all the good things in his life, he owes all of them to parents who believed in his future. Playing baseball has been a central part of this successful life. College ball at Pasadena City College, 4 years of pro ball in Mexico, and the high level of competition provided by Darren Flemings SoCal Blue Jays has contributed to Rafaels development as a player and a quality person. He has consistently been a winner. With a resume of great teams and many championships, Rafael appreciates the opportunity to have been a part of the Rhode Island Salty Dogs (Fall Classic champs 2011), the San Antonio Bombers (Texas Cup champions 2009 & 2010), the South Bay Cubs (MSBL WS 35+ champions 2008), and co-manager with Dave Brunette of Team Victory 45+National (MSBL WS champions 2009, 10,11). Team Victory also sports 11 regional tournament championships in Las Vegas and Palm Springs. Quite a success story for the 20 year World Series veteran. The father of two beautiful daughters (Elizabeth 19 & Melissa 17), he lives in Hesperia, California. Rafael cites Roberto Clemente as his hero, for his exceptional baseball skills, his work as a humanitarian, and his devotion as a husband and father. Managing with his best friend, Dave, his belief is that you cannot always control whether you win or lose, but you can make sure you are spending time doing something you love with great friends and teammates, quality people who make it rewarding every time we take the field.

Playoff Berths At Stake Today As The WS Tournament Wraps Up

Teams In Participation Divisions Need To Be Specific During Pre Game Meeting
By Tom Prendergast

One of the most competitive weeks in recent memory comes to a close today with more than 80% of the teams still having a shot at qualifying for the playoffs. In fact, its safe to say that the playoffs actually begin today for some of these teams with (2-3) or (3-2) records. And because so many teams have similar records, the runs allowed category will more than likely be a major factor in determining which teams advance. Good communication during the pre game meeting with the officials and the opposing manager is very important, especially if you are in a division which requires participation minimums. Starting with the lineup card, make sure you are only listing players that are in the dugout when the game starts. If a player is going to arrive late, please make sure you put an asterisk by his name (if its on the lineup card) and inform both the umpire and the other teams manager of his absence. Otherwise it may appear that this player failed to get a required at bat, when he wasnt even at the game.

MSBL/MABL WS Spotlight On Glenn Powers (3n2 Rangers) Events happen in an instant. Memories last a lifetime. Since 1990, Glenn Powers has been representing his Puget Sound MSBL at the World Series. He has tasted victory in four championship games, as well as winning regionals in Seattle and Las Vegas. Never missing an opportunity to come to Arizona for 22 years, Glenn remembers 2012 as the first year his sons (Russell, Adam, and Andrew) joined him for a Father/Son appearance. His wife of 28 years, Kristie has supported his success as a player, coach, and manager. Glenn says success is always intoxicating but when you get to share it, is truly a significant moment in your life. So many experiences happen suddenly. The surprise death of long time teammate Tim Zydek following his heart surgery helped keep baseball in perspective, and reminds Glenn what a gift every day is. In 1995 he played in an exhibition game against the Colorado Silver Bullets in the Seattle Kingdome, just prior to a Yankees-Mariners game. Before the game was over, some 45,000 fans had arrived to see the pros and got to witness an MSBL game. Sitting in the dugout between early arriving players Ken Griffey, Jr. and Jay Buhner, talking baseball with Reggie Jackson and even later sharing the trainers room with Randy Johnson are memories that will never be forgotten. In 1997, Glenn made one of his own. In the MSBL WS American Division championship game he made a great running catch in deep right center field to preserve his teams lead and eventually win a ring. The play happened in an instant but the memory will last a lifetime.
