The pro-Union community must be given its place in Londonderrys year as the UKs first City of Culture, not just used to help win the bid, a DUP MP has warned. Gregory Campbell was speaking last night at the Politics, Culture and Society in a Changing

Ireland conference less than a week ahead of the official programme launch for Londonderrys year as UK City of Culture next Thursday. The east Londonderry MP said that emphasis was placed upon both sides of the community being united to help win the bid, and warned that the year needed

to follow through and reflect the Protestant, unionist and Ulster Scots identities as well as Irish, Gaelic, along with many others. having asked for and received wholehearted endorsement from both communities in bidding for the award, some of us repeatedly warned that after winning it and in preparation for delivering the

programme it was essential that the minority unionist community did not feel used as part of a both sides coming together to win the bid headline and then as the programme of events unfold the majoritys cultural outlook pervades throughout the year. That must not happen, Mr Campbell warned. Turn to page 8
