SACRAMENTO, CAVincent Thakur Singh, 43, formerly of Elk Grove, was arrested late Monday on federal investment fraud and bankruptcy fraud charges in Caldwell, Idaho. Singh is charged in a 24-count indictment, returned by a federal grand jury in Sacramento on October 4 and unsealed this morning, with wire fraud, false statements in bankruptcy, and bankruptcy bribery, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced. The indictment alleges that Singh carried out an investment fraud through an entity known as the Perfect Financial Group. According to the indictment, Singh targeted 190 members of the ethnic Indian Fijian community for an investment fraud that grossed approximately $20 million. Singh told investors that he was using their money for hard money lending, but actually, he put it to other purposes. The indictment alleges that he lost $12 million through gambling; diverted more than $2 million to personal bank accounts and withdrew much of that in cash; spent $880,000 on a film project; and spent more than $1 million on other business ventures. Fire Leaves Families Homeless

THREE families are now homeless after a fire destroyed a three-flat property at Dadakulaci Rd in Nadawa early Sunday morning. The National Fire Authority received an emergency call at 7:06am and was at the scene seven minutes later. The authority said preliminary investigations revealed the suspected cause of fire was unattended cooking. NFA chief executive officer John O'Connor was also at the scene and reiterated advice for the public to take fire safety seriously. "There has been an increase in fire cases and it's a concern to see that people and families are losing their properties and homes as well as years of hard earned money going up in flames," Mr O'Connor said. "Majority of the 62 fires we have attended to this year are caused by unattended cooking, children playing with matches, candles or mosquito coils which can be attributed to carelessness," Mr O'Connor said. "These house fire incidents would have been easily avoided if members of the community took extra care in regards to fire safety at home. "NFA is again pleading with members of the community to totally change their attitude to fire safety and not assume that a fire will not happen to them. Fires can be controlled and it is everybody's responsibility to ensure fire safety in their homes; to ensure the safety of their property and families," he said.
Prime Minister Opens 2012 RFMF Wives & Mother's Club Inter-Unit Sports Tournament
Tattersalls Gymnasium was filled with women from all parts of Fiji to participate in the RFMF Wives & Mothers Club Inter-unit Sports Tournament. The chief guest at the special occasion was Prime Minister Mr Voreqe Bainimarama who was accompanied by his wife, Mrs Bainimarama. The sports tournament is a yearly event that unites the wives and mothers of the RFMF officers through netball and volleyball competitions. Some of the female officers serving in the RFMF also participate in the annual event. In his opening speech, Prime Minister Bainimarama praised the women as a source of strength to the army and thanked the women for all their hard work and support. He also thanked the women for their understanding and patience when their husbands, fathers or sons are out of the country or away from their homes on peacekeeping missions.

Tourism In Fiji Still Has Upper Hand

Fijis hotel sector remains unfazed by growing tourism numbers to its South Pacific neighbours, according to the Fiji Islands Hotel and Tourism Association. President Dixon Seeto conceded that rival destinations were becoming more competitive. However he insisted Fiji still had the upper hand. They have learnt from us, learnt to price product competitively and upgraded their product, he told Travel Today. But in Fiji we have a more mature product and there is more stuff you can do here. Seeto also referred to better air access as a major advantage for Fiji. TOURIST ARRIVALS Meanwhile, guest arrivals this year had been very strong, he revealed, with growth of around 8%. Last year, Fiji welcomed a record 675,000 visitors, exceeding the previous years record of 630,000. Australians accounts for 50% of arrivals while New Zealanders stand at around 16%. Strong growth and solid occupancies were seeing hoteliers turn away from heavy discounting, with Seeto branding it unnecessary. Most hotels are getting back to a normal rate structure, he said. Discounting is now used only when needed in off-peak periods or when big groups are involved. Instead operators are increasingly looking to the MICE sector to build sales in the low season. WHOLESALE Although, direct sales are coming, Fijis hotels continue to be wholesale driven, according to Seeto. When a wholesaler gives you so much traffic, they can help you compete in terms of prices, he said. He revealed that, on average, popular hotels with good wholesale supply are recording occupancies of around 80%. BACKPACKERS Meanwhile, the backpacker market, which accounts for around 10% of visitors, has dipped slightly due to a restructuring of round the world fares. Fiji used to be a free stopover and a lot of backpackers were taking advantage of that, he said. Seeto applauded the work of Tourism Fiji saying it was doing enough but urged the government to increase its budget. Much more is needed to assist Air Pacific with marketing over the next year, he said. New markets need more money, he insisted.

Shops in the Capital City will this year be restricted to in store Suva on Sale following the partial shutdown of the Stinson Parade Bridge and the Vatuwaqa Bridge. The shutdown is to allow Fiji Roads Authority to carry out detailed structural inspections to the two bridges. Suva Retailers Association president Himmat Lodhia said the restrictions during the Suva on Sale on October 13-

THE son of former Prime Minister Mahendra Chaudhry has called for the reinstatement of the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) and that it be given constitutional recognition to act in an apolitical manner in matters concerning national issues. Rajendra Chaudhry in his submission to the Constitution Commission at the GCC complex in Nasese said it was the GCC that was the voice of reason and moderation for coup makers in the past. "Without the GCC, the political impasses of 1987 and 2000 would not have had the outcome that it had," he said. "Of course, there are some within the chiefly system that have radical and extremist views, but these are a minority and their views have often been ameliorated by the majority who see Fiji's future as a multi-cultural and multi-racial country." TWO established Indian fashion designers - Joy Mitra and Pankaj Kumar - are in the country to inspire local designers. The designers will be part of the Fiji Fashion Week show, Fashion in Paradise, which will draw local designers who are into traditional and modern designs. Fiji Fashion Week director Ellen Whippy-Knight said the Fiji Fashion Week team was extremely excited to have the Indian designers because they were well established in Delhi. "Fiji Fashion Week cannot wait to show the people of Fiji what the two designers have to offer with the focus on new traditional and modern designs straight from India," she said. Designer Joy Mitra said being in Fiji was a great break from the recent Indian Fashion Week. Escapee Steals Clothes

A LAUTOKA family is living in fear after an inmate from the Lautoka Corrections Centre entered their compound and stole clothes off their clothes line. Nilesh Chand said the incident occurred about 7.40am at his Dawai St residence in Natabua. "The prisoner must have been hiding in the bushes behind our house because my wife who was washing at the back of the house did not see him until she noticed the clothes missing from the line and she saw him pulling off his uniform and putting on the clothes," he said. "She screamed and he ran back into the bushes again. "I called out to my neighbours and they alerted prison officers. "I was very scared and feared for the safety of my mother, wife and twomonth-old son. Many times when men are at work, the women are alone at home and we are worried about them. Mr Chand said it was the first time that a theft had occurred in the 15 years he and his family has resided at Natabua. He said the prisoner was caught immediately after the alarm was raised. The clothes were returned.

Tourism Fiji will reveal its new brand at the World Travel Market (WTM) 2012 to be held in London from November 5-8, this year. The brand with the new tagline will be effective across the globe from January next year. A 21-year-old man has admitted a charge of indecent assault before the Suva Magistrates Court. The man appeared before Magistrate Yohan Liyanage and swore he was pleading guilty on his own free will. On October 13, the man indecently assaulted a girl in Suva while he was drunk. In mitigation, he said he wanted to reconcile with the complainant. Magistrate Liyanage told him that he had to pay a bond for his bail. He told the man to follow court orders and surrender his travel documents. The matter has been adjourned to October 29.

75th Anniversary Celebration

MARIST Brothers' High School former and current students gathered at the school grounds to celebrate their 75th anniversary. Old scholars from the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand also gathered in numbers to mark one of the auspicious occasions for the school, with old scholars sharing their experience at the school with students. Former pupil Doctor Sohan Singh said being part of the celebration brought back joyous memories for him. Dr Singh was in MBHS from 1964 to 1967 and has lived in the US for several years. He said he was amazed with the changes made within the school like the Lambert hall that now catered for all the students at the school. "I never thought that I would be part of the 75th celebration and to meet up with former classmates," he said. Former student Devlin Chung said he was proud to be called a Marist old boy because they were the first students to win the Deans trophy in 1965. Mr Chung said they were also the first to start the red fire spirit which continues today. "I would like to encourage students to be more passionate about their studies and also dedicate themselves to achieving their goals," he said. Also part of the celebration was 30 students from Apifo'ou High School in Tonga. Teacher Analena Ta'ai said the students were happy to be at the celebration, especially since it was their first trip to Fiji.
Man Homeless After Fire

A FIRE in Vuci South destroyed a five-bedroom house last Sunday night leaving an elderly man homeless. The total damage was estimated at $20,000. "The 66-year-old man escaped unharmed. The alarm was raised by neighbours," Ms Naisoro said. "Police are still investigating the cause of the fire," she said. Meanwhile, the National Fire Authority (NFA) is reiterating its call to members of the public to take necessary precautions when dealing with fire sources. In a statement NFA said they received the fire emergency call about 9pm and immediately responded. Upon arrival at the scene three minutes later the fire crew saw the house fully engulfed in flames. "The firefighters extinguished the fire and stopped it from spreading to the neighbouring houses in this area," the NFA statement said. This incident brings to 63 the total number of structural fires this year. NFA's investigation is in progress to determine the cause of the fire.
Speed Cameras Waiting Approval

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) hopes to note a decrease in speeding offences once the new static speed cameras are installed. "We're waiting for the legislation that are now at the Attorney-General's office to be approved before we can use the speed cameras," LTA spokesman Alfred Wiliame said. "It is known that speeding is the number one killer on the road and we are asking drivers and all those who use the road to be more careful, especially during the wet weather," Mr Wiliame said. He said out of all traffic offences that road marshals recorded in a day, speeding still topped the list. That, he added was of a growing concern for LTA officers. "All road users should learn to respect the road and use the road carefully; some drivers tend to forget that there are other people using the road," Mr Wiliame said. "Our message still remains the same, we plead with drivers, passengers and pedestrians to please comply with the road rules and practice road safety at all times," he said. He said the cameras would be installed in places known to be accident prone areas around the central division. "We're hoping to see a decrease in numbers of speeding drivers once we start introducing the use of these new speed cameras," he said. The LTA has identified the Sigatoka to Ba corridor as the red zone area for most traffic offences, with the figures of speeding drivers standing at 367 booked within a three-day period.

Water Bill Waiver Brings Relief To Residents
Mrs Bhoop Chand could not hold back her tears when she was informed that her unpaid water bills would be cleared by the government. The Suva resident is only one of the 100,000 Fijians across the country whose water debts were cleared by government as part of its efforts to support families facing severe financial difficulties. Mrs Chand who had her water disconnected due to non-payment of bills, said her family would have really struggled to pay $1,052 water bill. The Chand family, together with her husband, her elderly father, two sons, the daughter-in-law and a toddler, had their water reconnection documentation signed by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama. Both her sons are unemployed but one of them has employment on a casual basis and the family is struggling to make ends meet as it is, so this assistance from Government has given them a boost. We did not have such high bills before until recently and when I enquired about it at the Water Authority office, they told me that there must be a leak, the emotional Suva resident said. When we checked, sure enough we had a leak in the pipe and the water had been flowing uselessly. We want to thank government for helping us out and looking after me and my family, Mrs Chand said. These three waivers were the ceremonial start to one of Governments drive to assist people in helping them reduce their cost of living as alluded to by Prime Minister Bainimarama when he made the announcement. The Prime Minister visited families
around Suva including the Ballantine Memorial School and personally delivered the letters of waiver. He highlighted governments commitment towards assisting families around the country in managing financial obligations. Nothing is more important to my Government than helping ordinary Fijians provide for themselves and their families. And one of the best ways we can do that is to relieve the cost of living pressures on ordinary people. We will never forget that it is the families of Fiji who come first, Prime Minister Bainimarama said. There are four criterias that have to be met to get the waiver and after this initiative the families are expected to pay their bills on time. The Attorney-General and Minister for Public Enterprise, Mr Aiyaz SayedKhaiyum, said while Government was reaching out to assist those in need, they must understand that this is a oneoff payment. So these families need to get their water meters or the pipes checked, which may have been the cause of the sudden increase in the bills, get this in order because this assistance is a onceoff, he said. Obviously its a good opportunity for these families to start on a clean slate but at the same time it is their responsibility to ensure that their pipes are not leaking. More than 25,000 Fijian households, businesses, schools and places of worship benefited from this decision to waive the debts they owe to the Water Authority of Fiji for years of unpaid water and sewerage bills.
More hotel rooms are now available, the Fiji Bureau of Statistics said in a report just released on quarter 2 this year. But the number of rooms sold compared to quarter 2 of the same period last year has decreased. According to the report, 77 hotels were part of the statistics which were categorized according to establishments. The figures titled Provisional Hotels and Tourist Accommodation Statistics, Quarter 2, 2012 revealed that the number of rooms available increased by 0.8 per cent while the number of rooms sold had decreased by 2.3 per cent. The figures revealed that quarter 2 of last year had sold 425,417 rooms compared to 415,539 in the 2012 quarter 2. Despite the number of beds increasing by 0.8 per cent, the number of beds

Room occupancy has decreased from 45.3 per cent compared to 46.8 per cent of the same period last year. Meanwhile in the comparison to the above, overall taking had decreased by 0.8 per cent compared to the same quarter last year, even though an increase in employment was 1.7 per cent in quarter 2. Despite this paid employment in the hotel sector had increased by 1.7 per cent. Employment had increased from 11,578 in quarter 2 of last year to 11,772 in quarter 2 this year.

The Republic of Haiti and the Republic of Fiji formalized diplomatic relations at a ceremony at the Fiji Mission to the United Nations in New York this week. The Permanent Representative of Haiti to the United Nations, Ambassador Jean Cazeau and his Fiji counterpart, Ambassador Peter Thomson, signed a joint communiqu establishing diplomatic relations between the two developing nations. The communiqu expresses the desire of the Republics of Fiji and Haiti to promote mutual understanding and strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation between their two peoples. The communiqu affirms that the relationship will be guided by the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations and other norms of international law, particularly
those pertaining to the promotion of international peace and security, the respect for State sovereignty, equality among States, independence, territorial integrity, international treaties and non-interference in the internal affairs of States. Following the formalization ceremonies, Ambassadors Cazeau and Thomson held talks on areas of common interest between their two countries, including the programmes for Haitis recovery from the devastating earthquake of 2010, the steady progress of the Fiji Roadmap towards sustainable democracy, the two countries cooperative work in AOSIS on Climate Change issues, and the opportunities available for Haiti and Fiji to work together in the Group of 77.

Success For Our Sugar Industry

Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) has confirmed the Penang Sugar Mill has closed Thursday as the last of the sugarcane gets processed. FSC executive chairman, Abdul Khan, also said the Lautoka Mill will close in mid-November while the Rarawai Mill will close in early December. The Labasa Mill, for the first time in its history, closed in October instead of the usual December deadline. Mr Khan said all available sugarcane in the North had been processed by the Labasa Sugar Mill. Mr Khan confirmed 44,500 tonnes of raw sugar had been produced worth $44.5 million during the almost 14 weeks of crushing. Last year we had made significant improvement and again this year, we have reached a milestone achievement, he said. We have exceeded our expected 42,000 tonnes of sugar for the Labasa Mill. The Fiji Sugar Corporation, in all, is expecting a successful year. Labasa Mill manager, Karia Christopher, indicated the mill was able to crush 413,283 tonnes of sugar cane since the mill opened its doors for crushing in late June of this year. This is the first time ever the Labasa Mill has closed in October, instead of the normal December. This is the first time also the Labasa Mill has closed ahead of the other mills in Fiji, he said. When asked about how much of stand over sugarcane is still left in the fields, Mr Christopher said as usual there would always be some cane left. But Mr Khan said the only stand over sugarcane would be those which were in dispute. A celebration was held through Labasa Town to mark a successful year of crushing by the Labasa Mill in which all stakeholders of the sugar industry in the North took part. Speaking at the closing of the mill, Commissioner Northern LieutenantColonel Ilai Moceica commended all stakeholders for their hard work and commitment throughout the season. The Labasa Mill has produced the highest tonnes of sugar in the country so far this year and I know that such achievement is attributed to mill efficiency, close supervision and more importantly team work from all the workers, Lieutenant-Colonel Moceica said. Government is determined to reverse the downward trend in sugar cane production through reforms and committing financial resources to revitalize the industry. Moreover, Government is committed to creating a modern, economicallyviable and sustainable sugar industry in Fiji.

The Fiji Manufacturers Association has called for the Fiji flag to be redesigned to include 14 stars signifying the 14 provinces in Fiji with an emblem focusing on Fijis main economic product. In their submission, the association stated that bananas were no longer a significant earner for Fiji, adding that a banana should be replaced by a significant Fiji product like tourism, and the people. They mentioned that the impact of redesigning the flag is manifold: historic, educational, attractiveness, a newer vision. The group proposed that it was inappropriate to call all citizens as Fijians. It can be problematic in counting, as not all laws are changed to reflect that native Fijians are now iTaukei. A common identity is one which should be thoroughly debated. Our suggestion is that we are all called Fiji Islanders, they said. They also submitted that the national anthem should be shortened with shorter verses. The association is of the view that a secular state be maintained in Fiji to promote an enabling multicultural society and foster inter-faith dialogue, and respect for others values, tolerance. It wants the complete abolishment of the communal representation system. It supports the encouragement of free enterprise in Fiji for the development of our people and the economy. It submits that there should not be any reserved or restricted activities for foreign investors.

Fiji And Korea Work To Build Pacific Fisheries

South Korean deep-sea fishery companies are hoping for substantial development of the fisheries industry in the South Pacific. These comments were made by the president of the Korea Maritime Institute, Hak-So Kim, during the Korea South Pacific Fisheries Forum (KOSOPFF) 2012 Fiji Symposium. Mr Kim said they also hoped for more enhanced mutual co-operation with the region in the private sector. The countries in the South Pacific have vast exclusive economic zones that are larger than their land areas, which means that development and protection of the ocean are directly related to the development of the national economy, he said. The fisheries industry is at the forefront of such maritime economic growth. Development below par Mr Kim stressed that considering the immense fisheries resources and the vast size of fishing grounds, the development of the fisheries industry in the Pacific was still below par. The easiest way to achieve economic and social development through the enormous potential of fisheries resources is to learn from the experience and know-how of advanced countries that show exemplary cases in the formulation of the long-term visions and strategies for the fisheries industry. Mr Kim said the fisheries industry has been the driving force behind the initial growth of many countries around the world. Learning from Korean expertise He believes that no country has more know-how on the growth of the fisheries industry than Korea. The one-day symposium was held at the University of the South Pacifics Japan-Pacific ICT Centre. Researchers and experts from Fiji, Korea and regional organisations deliberated on wide-ranging issues relating to the management of fisheries resources in the Pacific. Koreas catch from Pacific The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Fiji, Hae-Wook Cheong, highlighted since Korean deep-sea fishery companies tapped into the South Pacific operation in the early 1960s, the region had served as the major tuna fishing ground for Korea. Tuna accounts for 53 per cent of Koreas total overseas catch and the South Pacific accounts for 94 per cent of tuna catch, he said. However, tuna stock in the Pacific has been significantly declining, particularly in the species of Bluefin tuna and big eye. Furthermore, the overall fish species are in danger because of over fishing and global warming. Mr Cheong stressed being the second largest tuna fishing country, Korea was committed to taking a leading role in effective conservation, management and sustainable utilization of living marine resources. Fiji finalizing laws Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary for Fisheries and Forests, Inoke Wainiqolo, revealed Fiji was currently finalising its Offshore Fisheries Legislation. This legislation is to replace certain provisions of the current fisheries laws and strongly emulates conservation based on international instruments, he said. In addition, Fiji is currently formulating its National Plan of Action for Conservation of Management of Sharks which uses the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) International Plan of Action for Sharks as the guiding principles. Mr Wainiqolo indicated Fiji, along with other Pacific Island States anticipated assistance in areas of human resource development, gear technology, new market access, joint monitoring, control and surveillance initiatives, aquaculture development and community-based fisheries management.

A Media Analysis Of IDC Coverage Questioning The Unquestioning And Questionable Media
overseas media, especially from New Zealand. Most media personnel covering IDC in Ba, Fiji over that IDC weekend were either from Suva or belong to teams Ba have defeated, hence they carry animosity or dislike towards the most successful soccer giants in Fijis history Ba soccer team. Posting comments on my Facebook, I commented that the biggest enemy for Ba Soccer Team is its success and popularity. In the finals, Ba appears to have played against 15 players-11 from Suva team players and 4 the match officials, including a controversial and questionable referee. Two goals against Ba were disallowed in the final. Nobody questioned those. Why these media people are harping about a decision that appeared questionable to the officials and those watching the game. Fiji has no video refereeing; hence human factors and infallibility do come in. Mai TVs journalistic standard comes into question as well when the commentator and technical teams over and over played what appeared to be a controversial last minute goal. However, Mai TV failed to do the same with two goals that were NOT awarded to Ba. We seemed to have had an extremely partisan media covering IDC. It would help sports immensely if media personnel covering such games, many of who are not qualified match officials, displayed some semblance of media neutrality and dig deeper on issues that thwart sports development in Fiji. I commend Fiji Football Association for making a rationale and expedient decision in abandoning the match and summoning the help of Police and fire brigade in case of crowd getting rowdy. Some may see that as an overreaction but thanks to the immediate and effective action and show of force by authorities that prevented more adventurous spectators from taking advantage of the mayhem that was waiting to happen. Had our police and authorities being that effective and vigilance on that fateful 19th May, 2000, perhaps the riots in Suva City and political instability could have been avoided when the police were caught with their pants down due to ineffective leadership twelve years ago. The immediate action and show of force during the trouble at the ground bolstered our confidence in the police force. At the same time it showed good effective leadership of FFA to make timely decision to diffuse a volatile situation. Perhaps this may be a learning curve for sports in Fiji where perhaps consideration may be given to introduce video-refereeing in some crucial games or where too many questions, as in this case, have been raised about standards of refereeing. While I agree that the referees decision is final and walkout should not be condoned, these should be viewed in proper context and perspective. The situation had been made very explosive, even provocative and frustrating for Ba fans who see their team short-changed in a habitual fashion by an apparently partisan decision -making by match officials. This had left Ba fans very frustrated. Apart from two goals not allowed in the final match, there were other questionable decisions against Ba, and media never came on board to question such supposed injustice that was damaging sports development in Fiji. In light of general standard of media in Fiji and ethnic media in NZ, this IDC also revealed lack of medias ability to grasp the technicalities of the game, question any anomalies and report constructively without taking sides, to improve the standard of the game. They should have raised issues about standard of refereeing and resulting frustration that resulted in the "hated" team walking off the field in the final. They may have influenced improvements and avoided abandonment had they

Media Relations Limited Auckland This issue of Pacific Journalism Review, a journal of Pacific Media Centre (PMC) at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) runs my article, titled Fijis coup culture 1987-2006: A media perspective. In that article I raise some pertinent issues relating to action or rather inaction and deficiency in Fiji media between 1987 and 2006 that led to so many coups to happen in Fiji and so many false prophets masquerading as a saviours of i- Taukei. I questioned Fiji medias inability to question issues, raise intelligent and informed discussions and raise knowledge about what people needed to know. In effect, I branded Fiji media of pre-2006 as sleeping on the job. I raise a rhetoric question; would we have been able to avoid political instability in Fiji if we had more educated, effective, neutral and responsible media? Coincidently, I raise the same issues when discussing soccer fiasco and the abandoned final at Inter-district Soccer Tournament (IDC) at Govind Park in Ba on the night of 14th October, 2012. been more questioning from day one. Were the media impartial and neutral with a view of reporting anomalies to improve the standard of refereeing? I believe not, as the reporters came with their blinkered and partisan view of teams they supported, or the team (s) they hated. Did they question other questionable decisions of the referee and match officials to prevent the situation that escalated? Why were so many goals by very popular and envied team Ba disallowed in so many cases? If one thing this IDC match reflected is the inefficiency and failure of the local and overseas media to be neutral and questioning. Journalistic standards went down Ba river, they all became armchair critics without much knowledge of the technicalities involved and became little Gods. So how can they question decision, many times without the full knowledge of ALL facts. They just shoot off their mouths and shoot the photos without full facts. In sports, a picture can lie, if the other factors linked to the picture are not taken account of. A ball in goal may not be a goal if it was taken in offside situations. Ba had some three such goals disallowed. We do not have journalists parading those photos. How come some media are showing photos of a disputed goal in the final, telling us to believe it was a LEGAL goal, without full facts, and confusion it may have been an offside? In the past, Fiji democracy has been let down by a partisan, uneducated, poorly trained and inefficient media. Same seems to apply to their game coverage of IDC soccer tournament at Goving Park in October, 2012. 2 teaspoons groundnut/peanut oil 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon sugar 2 teaspoons cornstarch 10 ounces boneless skinless chicken breasts -- cut on diagonal into 1/4"-thick by 2"-long slices 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic 2 teaspoons freshly-ground chilies 1/2 teaspoon finely-chopped onion 2 teaspoons cold water 2 teaspoons sugar 1 tablespoon groundnut/peanut oil 1 tablespoon rice wine or dry sherry 1/3 cup chicken broth 1 teaspoon dark soy sauce 4 Chinese dried mushrooms -- soaked in warm water for 45 minutes, rinsed, water squeezed out, stems discarded, caps halved 1/2 small red bell pepper -- cut 1" triangles 3 scallions (spring onions), mainly white -- cut into 2" lengths 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch -- mixed with 2 teaspoons cold water -- for thickening 1 teaspoon sesame oil 2 teaspoon ground bean sauce

2 cups flour 2 tspns. ground cardamon 2 tspn. ground black pepper cold water to make dough (should be stiffer than roti dough) Oil for frying 2 and a half cups sugar - set aside for later 1 cup water - set aside for later Method Add cardamon and pepper to flour. Mix well. Then add a third of a cup of oil in flour. Rub with fingers until it resembles bread crumbs or near enough. Add cold water to flour and knead to a stiff dough. Apply a little oil to make it smooth. Take a manageable ball of dough and roll out using a rolling pin (roti thickness). Cut into thin strips approx. 2 inches long. Repeat this process until all the dough is rolled out and cut. Spread strips separately on a greased trays. Heat oil and fry lakadis until light brown and crispy. Set aside. Boil sugar and water until syrup consistency. Add syrup to fried lakadi. Mix all together very well. Let stand for half an hour. Enjoy!

Combine the ground bean sauce, water, and sugar. Heat a wok, add the groundnut oil, and swirl the surface with oil. Stir-fry the garlic mixture for 5 seconds. Add the ground bean sauce mixture and stir-fry for 5 seconds. Add the rice wine and combine. Pour in the broth; then the dark soy sauce and stir to combine. Add the chicken, mushrooms, bell peppers, and scallions. Stir-fry over high heat for 2 to 3 minutes. Then, reduce the heat a little, and stir in the thickening mixture for a few seconds. Finally, add the sesame oil, which will impart a beautiful fragrance and richness to the dish. Serve hot.

Mr Morgan said "it would appear that at no point was Air New Zealand made aware of the event itself or the outcomes of their inquiry". Chief of Air Force Peter Stockwell was called to Parliament to explain the incident and other safety failings. The Accident Analysis Report was obtained by the media and detailed extensive safety problems throughout the air force. It was part of the air force investigation into the 2010 Anzac Day crash which killed three servicemen, but was never made public. Defence Minister Jonathan Coleman refused to comment and would not give an assurance of confidence over air force safety. He said he had not read the report and was unaware of the Air Air Vice-Marshal Stockwell. Dr Coleman has ordered two inquiries into circumstances around the crash since the media began investigating. The air force refused to comment but said it had told the Transport Accident Investigation Commission of the incident in early September 2009 and again after its own internal investigation was complete. A spokesman for the TAIC said: "We have started a full search to see if we can find any record of that." He said the TAIC was normally told of aircraft issues by the Civil Aviation Authority and its list of safety investigations did not include the incident. A CAA spokesman said it had no record of the incident, which should have been reported. He said failure to do so was a breach of the law, which carried penalties of up to $30,000 for the airline and whoever put forward the dangerous goods. "If an incident like this did take place and we identified the goods to be dangerous the issue would be taken very seriously and would be subject to a full investigation." AUTHORITIES say two motorcycles have collided while escorting first lady Michelle Obama from a campaign stop in central Ohio, injuring a police officer and a state trooper.
The State Highway Patrol says the motorcycles somehow side-swiped each other late Monday afternoon east of Delaware as the motorcade headed to an airport. A state trooper and a Genoa Township police officer were hurt in the crash. They were taken to hospital in Columbus in a stable condition. The patrol says the police officer's
injuries were more serious than the trooper's but were not lifethreatening. Mrs. Obama wasn't hurt, and her motorcade continued on its route. She had campaigned at nearby Ohio Wesleyan University and was headed to Cleveland for another event. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

A pair of rare stamps bearing a picture of Chinese nationalist leader Sun Yatsen has sold for more than $700,000 at auction in Hong Kong. Auction house Zurich Asia says the 1941 blue and black stamps were purchased by an anonymous phone bidder. They are rare because the picture was
accidentally inverted. The stamps came from an original sheet of 50 stamps that had the error. Zurich Asia says the price has set a new "world record for any Republic of China stamp", referring to the period of 1912 to 1949 in China, after the last imperial dynasty lost power and before the communists took over.

British PM Signs Scottish Independence Vote Deal
David Cameron and Alex Salmond are on opposing sides of the independence debate Britain's prime minister and Scotland's first minister have signed an agreement to hold a referendum in 2014 on Scottish independence that could lead to the United Kingdom breaking up after 300 years. Prime Minister David Cameron and pro-independence first minister Alex Salmond inked the agreement and shook hands after a meeting at the Scottish government building St Andrews House in Edinburgh. Mr Cameron strongly opposes a Scottish breakaway and the signing of the terms for the vote fires the starting gun on two years of campaigning which puts the leaders firmly in opposing camps. After months of negotiations, the deal clears the way for Scotland's administration to hold the referendum in the final quarter of 2014, offering Scots a straight yes-no question on leaving the United Kingdom. "This is an important day for our United Kingdom, but you can't hold a country in the United Kingdom against the will of its people," Mr Cameron said. "Scotland voted for a party that wanted to hold a referendum. I believe in showing respect. This is the right outcome for Scotland and for the United Kingdom to give the people the choice. "But I passionately hope and believe that they will vote to keep the United Kingdom together. We are better off together, we are stronger together, we are safer together." Mr Salmond said before the signing that the agreement "will see Scotland take an important step toward independence, and the means to create a fairer and more prosperous Scotland". "I look forward to working positively for a yes vote in 2014," he said. Mr Cameron's Conservatives will be joined by their Liberal Democrat coalition partners in the British parliament and the opposition Labour party in urging voters to keep Britain together. The marathon campaign will pit them against Mr Salmond's Scottish National Party (SNP), the majority party in the devolved Edinburgh parliament. Major changes have been made to Parliament House security after a man came within touching distance of the Prime Minister two months ago. Parliamentary Services head Carol Mills has told a Senate estimates hearing that security failed when a man wearing a hoodie wandered through the most secure areas of the House and handed a document to Julia Gillard during a news conference. Ms Mills was quizzed about the incident by Victorian Liberal senator Scott Ryan. "Why are we making all our staff wear passes if this person dressed in a hoodie and jeans can wander around?" he said. Ms Mills said human error led to a security post being unmanned and rostering changes had now been made, but she said it was not unusual to see some media and staffers dressed as the intruder was. However, she says an independent review costing $30,000 is underway. "Changes have stopped the likelihood of it ever happening ever again," she said, adding there was now extra security when the Prime Minister held a news conference. "Our investigations would show... this was an extremely isolated breakdown

A 33-year-old Canberra man has received a jail sentence of just over two years, after he was convicted of threatening to kill his girlfriend by cutting off her head with an axe. The incident happened in September 2011 when Kristian James Lincoln Leask confined his girlfriend to her home during a terrifying four hour ordeal. Leask fought some of the charges against him, but pleaded guilty to also sending her threatening text messages. The court heard he had been under the

The latest edition of Guinness World Records awards the title to the City Montessori School in the Indian city of Lucknow, with 39,437 registered pupils in the 2010-2011 academic year. The school says enrolment numbers have already risen above 45,000, with 2,500 teachers, 3,700 computers, 1,000 classrooms - and one of the hardest first XI cricket teams to break into. CMS, as it is known, was opened by Jagdish Gandhi and his wife Bharti in 1959 with a loan of 300 rupees ($5.50 at current rates) and just five pupils. Today it sprawls over 20 sites in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh state, and is as famous for its exam results and international exchange programs as for its scale. "The phenomenal growth of our school is a reflection of our efforts to please our parents with our service to their children," said Mr Gandhi, who is still involved in the school's management at the age of 75. "Our students have exceptional academic results each year and outstanding global exposure. Getting this Guinness record is heartening but it's not just about size," he said. The pupils, who are aged between three and 17, all wear uniform and each class has about 45 members, but the whole school never gathers for assembly as there is nowhere big enough to hold them. CMS, which receives no government funding, charges 1,000 rupees ($18) a month in fees for younger pupils, rising to 2,500 ($46) a month for seniors. "In such a large school, there are many advantages, one being you get to make a lot of friends across the many sites that we have," Ritika Ghosh, 14, who has been at CMS for two years, said. "But as the school is so huge it takes a lot of effort to get noticed. Otherwise you are just one of the thousands that study. "There are certainly more challenges and competitions, which in the end prepares us for real life." Idealistic ambitions Fellow pupil Tanmay Tiwari, 16, credits the large size of the school for making him more outgoing. "I used to be very shy but the school has given me that confidence," he said. "Now I am in the college team, debating in national competitions." The school's size is matched only by its idealistic ambitions, with pupils taught a philosophy of universal peace and globalism under the motto "Jai Jagat" (Victory be to the World). With pupils under fierce pressure to get good exam results, sport is not always a top priority, but cricket coach Raju Singh Chauhan says selecting a team is still tricky. "To fish out sports talent in the 45,000plus students can be a huge problem," he said. "For this reason we hold inter-branch competitions to dig out the best children and then eventually we get the bigger picture and our best XI for the team." A company that made a migrant worker pay her own wages in a money-goround scheme to support her application for New Zealand permanent residency has been ordered to pay more than $74,000 in repayments and penalties. Chinese national Jingxin Tian lodged a personal grievance claim for unjustifiable dismissal with the Employment Relations Authority after she claimed to have paid South Pacific Limited a total of $33,510 to secure employment, but was sacked on June 13. She paid an initial $27,000 for the job, but had to make further payments of $6,510 to retain her employment. Miss Tian also claimed she did not receive a written employment agreement and was owed outstanding wages and holiday pay. She was dismissed without her knowledge following an accident at work, and was relayed the message by a colleague. Ms [Catherine] Guo [South Pacific director] was aware of Ms Tian's desire to obtain an open work visa and eventually permanent residence," Ms Fitzgibbon said in her decision. "Ms Guo... took advantage of Ms Tian's youth and inexperience, immigration status and vulnerability." Ms Tian, 22, came to New Zealand in February 2008 and graduated from the UUNZ Institute of Business in 2010. Ms Tian was told that she would be working for the Asian Business Year Book, which was part of South Pacific, where she was to sell advertising space. She was told she would be paid $200 a week during a three-month "trial" and a wage increase if things worked out but was paid $300 fortnightly in cash. When Ms Tian queried the fact that PAYE was not deducted and paid to IRD, Ms Guo agreed to pay the PAYE but only if Ms Tian reimbursed South Pacific. Immigration Minister Seeks New Power To Ban Visitors From Canada

Immigration Minister Jason Kenney Jason Kenney is seeking a new power to bar certain people from entering Canada, an authority critics say he already has. Kenney included the new authority in a piece of legislation expected to be studied by the Commons immigration committee this fall. It allows him to bar people for what are described as public policy considerations, a term that isnt defined in the bill. Critics say current immigration laws already allow border officials to refuse visitors admission to Canada for involvement in human rights violations, in criminal activity, security, health or financial reasons. At issue is the inconsistency with which the current law is applied, they say. In 2009, Kenney banned British MP George Galloway, allegedly for supporting Hamas, which is designated as a terrorist group here a decision later reversed by the Federal Court of Canada. Just last week, American pastor Terry Jones, the controversial cleric who threatened to burn the Quran, was turned back at the Windsor-Detroit border. They already have ample power to refuse people of admission, said veteran immigration lawyer Raoul Boulakia, adding that the proposed changes would give the minister unprecedented power to do what he pleases. Kenney promised hell put a set of criteria before the parliamentary committee and ask MPs how best to apply the new power. The idea of this power of negative discretion in Bill C-43 would be to give us an extraordinary power in very exceptional cases to deny admission essentially when we believe a foreign national may come to Canada (and) promote hatred which could frustration. He cited a case last year when Quebec urged him to bar two Islamic speakers known for homophobic and sexist remarks. He said there was nothing he could do at the time. But he said hes also aware such a power could be taken too far and thats why he wants to discuss it with his own party and the opposition. I dont want anymore than they do the current or future government abusing this kind of power to exclude from Canada those whose views may be contentious or politically incorrect, he said. The new authority is included in a sweeping piece of legislation introduced by the Conservatives just before the summer recess. It seeks to make it easier to both eject foreign nationals convicted of crimes in Canada and bar those convicted of crimes abroad from coming in. Kenney said ensuring the security of Canadas immigration system was part of his discussions in London this week. But he also talked politics with Britains current Conservative government. He said they asked to meet him to discuss the Canadian Conservative partys success in reaching ethnic voters. I was happy to share our experiences and our ideas, Kenney said.

She has said many times that it never occurred to her to do that, she had never given it a second thought, Carla Link told the media. Prime Minister Stephen Harpers government has ushered in the end of civilization at least when it comes to the name of Canadas largest museum. The old Museum of Civilization, which sits directly across the river from Parliament Hill, has been renamed as the Canadian Museum of History. And with the new name, the museum also gets a $25-million cash injection and a sharper focus in its job to take Canadians on a narrative tour of the countrys past. Heritage Minister James Moore is rejecting accusations that his government is using this name change to try to rewrite Canadas history or shine a light only on military and royal symbols held dear by the Conservatives. By the time we celebrate Canadas 150th birthday (in 2017,) Canadians will have a new museum that highlights the national achievements and accomplishments that have shaped our great country, Moore told a news conference Tuesday, attended by some of Canadas leading historians. This is not about a left-wing issue or a right-wing issue. This is the right thing to do, to build an institution that will span all of Canada. Moore said. The Museum of Civilization, a nearly 5,000-square-foot edifice opened in 1990, has tended to lean more to anthropology than to history in its exhibits, with an emphasis on aboriginal and international culture. Historians and cultural critics have long complained there was no place in the nations capital paying tribute to the big events, ideas and people that shaped Canada. There are museums to honour war, nature, science and technology and even currency, but no venue that presents the countrys whole story, from Confederation to modern times. Just this summer, Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson was talking up the need for a Canadian Smithsonian, similar to the massive U.S. institution in Washington, which celebrates the American past. Moores announcement, backed by the Historica-Dominion Institute and the civilization museums board, could be seen as a reply to all those demands. In fact, the new mission for the museum is based on a 10-year-old idea that arose during a previous Liberal government. Former prime minister Jean Chretien laid the groundwork for a Canadian History Centre as he was leaving office in 2003, appointing an advisory council to get the institution up and running in Ottawas historic old train station, now the Government Conference Centre across from the Chateau Laurier hotel. But those plans were scrapped soon after Paul Martin took over as prime minister. Harpers government appears now to have revived the history-centre plan on a more modest scale. Rather than set up a whole new cultural institution something Conservatives have been loath to do (they also cancelled a planned portrait museum) it is repurposing one of the existing buildings to be more history-friendly. Charlotte Gray, the well-known historical author, had been in charge of the council to set up the history centre under Chrtien. On Tuesday, she was also there to lend her support to the newly renamed museum. New Democrat and Liberal critics are saying, however, that the museums renaming is part of a larger, very deliberate effort by the Harper government to put a Conservative stamp on every symbol of the country. Since Harper came to power, lavish attention and money have been splashed on everything to do with the monarchy and the military in particular. NDP heritage critic Andrew Cash said the Conservatives are throwing money at the museum while they cutting federal library and archive budgets robbing Peter to pay Paul and paying more attention to displays of history than the preservation of it. Cash also pointed out that Moore has not been reticent about his displeasure over cultural exhibits in Ottawa, such as last years sex education exhibit at the science museum. A Canadian border services officer was shot and seriously wounded by a gunman who then fatally turned his weapon on himself at the Peace Arch crossing south of Vancouver, police say. Const. Bert Paquet said at an RCMP news conference that the female border officer was breathing and conscious when airlifted to hospital. The RCMP said late Tuesday that her condition was "stable," but did not provide details. The reports say the female CBSA officer was shot in the neck by a suspect who then took his own life. Paquet told reporters that a man travelling alone in a white van with Washington licence plates pulled up to a kiosk and shot the border guard. Video surveillance is being reviewed and witnesses are being interviewed, Paquet said. LeAnn Dombrosky told the reporter that she was at the border crossing when the shooting occurred. "I was the third car in the Nexus lane as this incident occurred at 1:51 p.m.," Dombrosky said in an email. "There was a gunshot and sounds of a woman screaming which drew the attention of all the other guards. Then after about 10 seconds, the guards were yelling to a man in a white van in the far left lane (closest to the building) to put his hands up another shot or two were fired in which the driver of the white van took his life with a bullet in his head." The B.C. Ambulance Service confirmed it had sent two ground vehicles and a medevac helicopter to the Peace Arch crossing.

The team performed the analysis using 12 cohorts and eight case-control studies from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe and North America to compare the prevalence of age-related cataract in individuals who smoked cigarettes to those who have never smoked. Researchers from Harvard School of Public Health have found that greater consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) is linked with a greater genetic susceptibility to high body mass index (BMI) and increased risk of obesity. The study reinforces the view that environmental and genetic factors may act together to shape obesity risk. Our study for the first time provides reproducible evidence from three prospective cohorts to show genetic and dietary factorssugar-sweetened beveragesmay mutually influence their effects on body weight and obesity risk, said Lu Qi, assistant professor in the Department of Nutrition at HSPH, assistant professor of medicine at Brigham and Womens Hospital (BWH), and senior author of the study. "The findings may motivate further research on interactions between genomic variation and environmental factors regarding human health, said Lu Qi. In the past three decades, consumption of SSBs has increased dramatically worldwide. Although widespread evidence supports a link between SSBs, obesity and chronic diseases such as diabetes, there has been little research on whether environmental factors, such as drinking sugary beverages, influence genetic predisposition to obesity. The research was based on data from three large cohorts, 121,700 women in the BWH-based Nurses Health Study, 51,529 men in the Health Professionals Follow-up Study and 25,000 in the Womens Genome Health Study. All of the participants had completed food-frequency questionnaires detailing their food and drink consumption over time. The researchers analyzed data from 6,934 women from NHS, 4,423 men from HPFS, and 21,740 women from WGHS who were of European ancestry and for whom genotype data based on genome-wide association studies were available. Participants were divided into four groups according to how many sugary drinks they consumed: less than one serving of SSB per month, between 1-4 servings per month, between 2-6 servings per week, and one or more servings per day. To represent the overall genetic predisposition, a genetic predisposition score was calculated on the basis of the 32 single-nucleotide polymorphisms known to be associated with BMI (weight in kilograms divided by the square of the height in meters). The results showed that the genetic effects on BMI and obesity risk among those who drank one or more SSBs per day were about twice as large as those who consumed less than one serving per month. The findings suggest that regular consumption of sugary beverages may amplify the genetic risk of obesity. In addition, individuals with greater genetic predisposition to obesity appear to be more susceptible to harmful effects of SSBs on BMI. SSBs are one of the driving forces behind the obesity epidemic, said Frank Hu, professor of nutrition and epidemiology at HSPH and a co-author of this study. The implication of our study is that the genetic effects of obesity can be offset by healthier food and beverage choices.

Experts at Lancaster University have said that if people are struggling for an answer, the best thing is to go to bed and get a decent amount of rest. The study tested whether sleep or time spent awake worked best in finding answers to a range of tasks. Participants attempted easy and difficult verbal problems and, after 12 or 24 hours including sleep, or 12 hours awake, returned to the questions that were unsolved as well as some new problems. The study found that the sleeping group solved more previously unsolved difficult problems than the group that had stayed awake.

Simply put, you get a lot of family goodness for the money with the Highlander. While Toyota has honed in on interior practicality with the Highlander, it's missing distinctiveness on the outside. The current version of the Highlander, with us now since 2008, has looked a bit derivative--or at the very least, drawing a little too literally in equal parts from Toyota's car and truck sides and ending up with an appliance that lacks any real flair of its own. That said, there's a certain honest, straightforward charm about the Highlander--if you can get past its lack of flair. There's little doubt the Highlander is unexciting on the outside; and for the most part the same rings true inside. The Highlander's well-built, well-equipped cabin puts all the controls where they need to be, without all that much heed to fashion. Highlander Hybrid models are distinguished from the gas-only Highlanders, only if you look close enough. Mostly, it's differently shaped fog lamps, some blue plastic and chrome trim that draw the visual line between the versions. There are essentially three powertrains available on the Highlander. Its base four-cylinder produces 187 horsepower, and it does just fine with front-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic. While it can deal alright with heavier loads, too, fuel economy isn't stellar. The same is true of the much more lusty 270-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 Highlander--though the five-speed automatic seems to take some wind out of it. EPA ratings are all mid-pack for all Highlanders save for the Hybrid model. The Hybrid now has a 3.5-liter V-6 and makes 280 hp altogether, and it's the way to go for those who want something very big, yet green: fuel economy bumps up to 28/28 mpg. He was not even born when Suva last lifted the Inter District Championship trophy in 1983, but defender Waisake Navunigasau still recalls the day when he first donned the white jumper and had a dream of hoisting the prestigious Lloyd Farebrother cup someday. And that someday happened to be last Sunday, October 14, 2012, a day which will go down in the history books of Suva Football Association as the district won the tournament after a lapse of 28 years. With so much controversy surrounding the awarding of the goal and the abandonment of the final, the Capital City came alive when they were officially declared the winners by Fiji Football Association. For Navunigasau, it is a dream come true to win the IDC and the header from which he scored will always be fresh in his mind. The reporter caught up with the 23-yearold Totoya native and heard some

interesting facts from him. "I made my debut for Suva in 2007 and it just feels great to score the winning goal in IDC final, five years on," he quipped. "I actually made my first appearance in the white jersey against Ba at Govind Park in the National League. We won that game 4-2 and I was playing striker with Joseph Nimariau who scored all the four goals in the match." Known to his family and friends as "Wise Junior", the lanky and friendly player says his first cousin and former Suva defender Tupou Tagiduadua encouraged him to join Suva in training while he was still in high school. "I was in Form 5 at MGM High School and was representing the school the Fiji U17 team back then when my cousin Tupou asked me to join Suva for training. I went for training and managed to impress the officials." Junior after moving to the main land from Totoya started his football career in class 3 at Nasinu Muslim Primary School before moving to MGM. "The biggest highlight in my football career was when I was chosen to represent Fiji in 2007 against New Caledonia in the U17 playoffs." "From there it has been no looking back for me as I have been playing competitive football at club and district level." "Former coach Intiaz Khan drafted me back in the Suva team after I missed out in the earlier seasons. He told me try and play in defence as my experience as a striker and my height complimented me. I took up the challenge and at first; I played at centre back and then moved to right back where I really clicked." "I played in the BOG final last year at right back and from there on I have stuck to my position and always try to give my best for Suva whenever I take the field." The Bureta sports club player says the IDC goal will not sink and his family will also cherish this special achievement of his. "I really feel proud every time I am
reminded of that goal because it makes me feel special. As a true player of Suva and a team player, I gave my best and thank my coach, players, family and the god almighty for giving me the strength, courage and motivation," he added. Navunigasau's idol is his fellow defender and veteran Inosi Cava who according to him is the best motivator on the field and someone every player in the Suva team looks up to for guidance and support. Suva and Navunigasau will celebrate their IDC triumph this Saturday.

WAISAKE Navunigasau remains adamant he had scored the goal that would have most likely ended Suva's 28-year wait for the Lloyd Farebrother Trophy. With some two minutes to go in the second spell of extra-time, Ba players, led by Osea Vakatalesau marched off the field in protest against the goal in the grand final of the Courts Interdistrict Championship at Govind Park. "I headed it and clearly saw it go in before Jone Ralulu pulled it back from behind the line," said the tall defender. Referee's assistant Kavitesh Behari signaled a goal and referee Andrew Achari pointed to the centre circle to give Suva a 1-0 lead. This drew an angry reaction from the Ba players as Ralulu had the ball in his hands. The Ba players then marched off the field. The Ba fans in the near 10,000 crowd joined the protest and the police called in more reinforcements.
Some six police vehicles, two motor bikes and a fire brigade truck were brought into the field of play to escort the match officials and Suva players out of the ground. It took over an hour to do that. The Fiji Football Association, acting on the referee's report, abandoned the match. "We have decided to abandon the match for security reasons," said Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel. "The Fiji FA board will now meet to give a decision." The match officials, Ba players and their top brass did not wish to comment. Ba FA boss Rishi Kumar said they would only comment after conducting their own meeting. Angry Ba fans hurled verbal abuse at Behari and threw plastic bottles at Suva reserve players. BA soccer team captain Osea Vakatalesau scored in extra time to save the hosts from becoming the next victims to the surprise package of the tournament Navua. After the match, he said he always wanted to score the winning goal and as he had done on so many occasions in the past and he did the same yesterday. "I am very proud to help my team reach the finals," said the 26-year-old. "After they had equalised, I just told my boys to help me score one more goal and they did," he said. Navua soccer team director Pravin Chand said he was proud of what the team had achieved in three days of preparation. "We had very little preparation time but I thank the players for their efforts in the tournament,"Chand said. "We were classed as a weak team before the tournament but we went through the pool unbeaten and then losing to giants Ba by one goal is an achievement on its own," he said.
