WHO IS HE? OVERVIEW

With more than twenty years of experience, Steve Lohman ranks among the preeminent wire sculptors in America. His original, adventurous sculptures are singular, often humorous creations - a couple in a warm embrace, a man at a grand piano, a coffee cup resting upon a care table. Lohmans work is distinct in both its craftsmanship and elegant simplicity; it possesses a dreamlike, kinetic quality, often presenting the illusion of forms suspended in air. Using one continuous line of steel, Steve Lohman creates his innovative, graceful sculptures in his home studio on Marthas Vineyard. All his work is done completely by hand and his creations range in size from small wire sketches only a few inches in diameter to large scale sculptures fifteen feet long fabricated form solid 3/4 steel. Influenced by the line drawings of Picasso and Matisse, Lohman continues to pioneer and push forward a style of wire sculpture that is uniquely personal and appealing to museums, galleries, and collectors around the country.

TREATMENT: FORM + CONTENT OVERVIEW

A promo for Steve Lohmans upcoming exhibition in the MoMA. This piece would consist of a single line, like how Lohman uses a continuous line of steel to create his pieces. The line would start out simple and as the music gets intensed, so will the line. It would twist and turn to create different forms, resembling close ups of Lohmans work. One idea is to animate the forms of his existing work into a collage of his work, and the other idea is to use a single line to create forms, which at the end of the piece, would form the information for his exhibition.

WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?

A single line appearing for a corner and slowly it twists and turns and starts to evolve into more intricate shapes, creating an image/message in a blowed up scale.

WHAT DOES IT MOVE LIKE?

Smooth flow of a line slowly becoming forms creating patterns and shapes. As more evolved shapes appear, the line would move more sudden, like a change in direction, creating angles. The fluidity of the line would highly depend on the music.

WHAT DOES IT SOUND LIKE?

Start out slow and smooth but gets intensed as the shapes and forms start to evolve from a single line.
