Movement, Games and Sports) are provided to pupils so that these will bring the opportunities for the children to participate and interact to develop their personality and skills and eventually boost their confidence. HCECi provides these activities with the belief that the school program is geared towards the attainment of the 5 Cs : Competence, Character, Collaboration, Creativity and Commitment to Achieve. Children DECIDE what activities they would turn into. Parents and teachers motivate and encourage the children to participate. At the end of the day, the children themselves benefit from the participation they wish join in, whether or not parents or teachers tell them where and what to join in. With this kind of program, HCECi has been producing leaders and achievers in all fields of endeavor whether in sports, journalism, music and movement producing scholars in wellrespected secondary and tertiary schools within and outside the country. With parents trust and support, HCECi will continue to provide the balanced holistic educational program : the academic tasks and extra-curricular activities.

ON JOINING THE ACTIVITES

Credits : Articles from Previous PB Issues

School activities are open to all students, therefore everyone is given the chance to join and participate. There are times that activities (especially monthly programs) require limited participants or representatives, that is why elimination or auditions are being held to come up with the best. It always starts with the elimination stage (whether classroom-based or institutional/school-based) wherein all pupils are subjected to a predetermined evaluation tool. If students pass the standards, they become part of the competition, program and/or event. There is no, at any rate, teacher who will use his/her power and authority in choosing the pupils who will join. The pupils are NOT CHOSEN. They emerge as the best among the pupils, so they deserve to be there in the event or activity. Pupils are exposed to school activities NOT TO GAIN ARA POINTS but TO GAIN CONFIDENCE, EXPERIENCE and LEARNING MOMENTS that will make them better persons and excellent pupils.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHY IS THERE THE A.R.A.?
Academic tasks are not the only object of education. School life is not only about books. There are essential things in life that are not learned from books and within the four walls of the classrooms. In HCECi, balanced school life is given to the pupils. The ACADEMIC-RELATED ACTIVITIES (A.R.A.) is the special arena for the pupils to cultivate and nurture their innate talents, aptitude and intelligences. ARA is the laboratory room of the academic tasks. Garnering ARA points is also important especially for pupils who are vying for honors. The grand total ARA points will be used in the deliberation of HONORS for the year-end achievers. This comprise 3 points using the 7-3 scheme as mandated by the Department of Education in selecting honors.

ON REPORT CARDS
Credits : Articles from MR. MELVIN C. FEDERIS Report cards are often considered a CONCLUSION : How well did your child do this quarter? Grades are designed to define the students progress and provide information about the skills that they have or have not acquired. Nevertheless, grades are often not detailed enough to give parents or the students themselves a thorough understanding of what they have actually learned or accomplished (Wiggins, 1994; Hall, 1990). As a springboard, a report card gives you the opportunity to talk with your child. Here are some suggestions: 1. Ask your child what she thinks of this progress report. Listen to her feelings and guide her in assessing how she thinks shes doing. 2. First and foremost, praise your child for the things done well. In fact, you may want to concentrate only on the positive in your first reaction to a report card. 3. If you and your child can see a place that needs improvement, talk about how she can go about improving.

WHY ARE THERE SO MANY ACTIVITIES EVERY MONTH?

In ARA, pupils are exposed to activities that will allow them to apply the skills and concepts learned in the classroom according to the line of pupils interests. The extra-curricular activities and academic-related activities, even special HCEC programs ( like Enhancement Classes, Tutorials, Sports, Music and
