Message from President Asif Al i Zardari President of the Islamic Republ ic of Pakistan
The need for high quality educational institutions in the country has existed since long. Keeping in view the growing needs for higher education and limited resources at the disposal of the Government, the Government decided to promote private sector institutions in Sindh, and the establishment of Institute of Business & Technology (Biztek) is a welcome step in this direction. Its heartening to see the private sector in Pakistan is sharing responsibility with the public sector for setting up good educational facilities in the country. Education is the key to the development and growth of a country. Im glad to know that good teaching facilities in important disciplines like management, computer science & engineering are coming up with the initiative of the private sector. I therefore expect that the Institute of Business and Technology would develop into a premier institution of the country. I expect the faculty and students of this institution to do their utmost to promote and propagate national objectives and inculcate the spirit of patriotism. May Allah be with you in your endeavors. Ameen

About Biztek
Prof ile, History and Accompl ishments
Our aspirations for excellence met many adversaries on its way. The journey that we started with a single step has covered a long distance in a short span of time. We accelerated our momentum without any compromise on the quality edification standards and knowledge dissemination process. We have developed a distinctive academic culture, uncommon in other private institutes of higher learning. This was only possible because of our f irm belief in the Almighty Allah and unshakable confidence in our noble cause for educating the nation, which helped us to overcome apparently insurmountable obstacles amicably. On our way to perfection, we have been rewarded with many admirations like placement in top most category by the Higher Educat ion Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, degree awarding status by Government of Sind h and ISO 9001:2008 Certification. The eminence and performance are judged based on international parameters. The admirably stocked library with online facilities have unlimited access to world's best-stocked libraries and more than 17,500 online research journals. The state of the art research center, air-conditioned classrooms, well equipped auditorium, multimedia teaching aids, motivational student-teacher interaction, conversation based teaching system, highly qualified, capable, well groomed and well experienced faculty, sports grounds and courts, all merit to the distinction of Biztek. Biztek expanded its infrastructure by building, an East Wing building inaugurated by Dr. Hameeda Khoro, Provincial Minister of Education of Sindh. Stone Laying of West Wing building was graced by His Excellency Mr Shaukat Aziz, Prime Minister of Pakistan. Work is in progress for starting construction of North Wing building. Biztek is not only expanding its infrastructure at the Main Campus, but new campuses are opening to give an opportunity to individuals to be a part of our success story and get quality education at their door step. Due to the rapid growth of Biztek facilities and commitment for the best, the future of Biztek is extremely bright. As part of our expansion plan, Biztek has already opened its Shahrah-e-Faisal Campus, Gulshan Campus and Nazimabad Campus. Considering the commitment and efforts shown by the Management of Biztek, we have already been allotted 50 acres of land at Malir Educat ion City. Work is in progress on this Malir Education City campus and on commissioning, this will be a state of the art multifaceted, multidimensional university having boarding facilities for students, and resident ial facilit ies for its staff.

Academic System
System of Education Education process is based on a semester system. There are 2 semesters + 1 short semester in a calendar year. Each semester is generally of 16-18 weeks duration. Graduation Requirement A student is entitled to graduate, if he or she completes all prescribed course work, lab work, reports, assignments, projects/thesis etc. and attains a CGPA of 2.5 or above in case of Undergraduate Programs and 3.0 in case of Graduate Programs. Transcripts / Student Records A copy of academic record is provided at the end of each semester. An official transcript of the entire academic record is provided upon submission of a written request from the student along with the requisite fee. However, on-line Information System allows students to access their records from virtually anywhere, though, for official transcripts they have to contact Examination department. Official transcripts are handed over in 15 working days, however, in exceptional cases it may be provided on urgent basis on payment of the urgent transcript fee. Specializations Biztek offers optimized specializations in accordance with the changing need and demands of working professionals. The motive for a personalized program is to offer the working individuals short courses that are relevant to their requirements. Biztek uses a combination of standard and tailored curricula to provide greater flexibility, an interdisciplinary, but focused curriculum that enable students to participate effectively in addressing various trends of the marketplace. Students can take courses in various academic fields being offered at Biztek that integrate that knowledge with their practical professions. Other specializations are being developed and students can have an opportunity to take specializations based on their interests. Single Major Major means the fields in which the student wants to build his/her career. There are a variety of majors offered at Biztek in which students can enroll themselves. Students are required to choose their majors at the time of admissions. Once the major is chosen, it can only be changed during the following semester and conditions apply. A specific reason is required to be mentioned for the change of major. Majors can not be changed during semesters or after the second semester. Dual Specialization After successful completion of BBA program, a student can avail the dual specialization facility by taking one more semester for the chosen specialization. For specialization, a student has to complete 4 advanced courses in the chosen discipline. If student wants to choose a dual specialization / bi-major option, he/she has to select atleast two more subjects from the discipline of his/her chosen specialization. In the final semester of MBA degree program, a student will choose a subject from specialization category. If a student wants to choose a dual specialization / bi major option, he has to select at least two more subjects from the disciplines of his/her specialization. Assessment Assessment is comprised of two quizzes, one assignment, one midterm and one final examination besides other evaluation parameters. Each semester is of 16 to 18 weeks of duration and in order to maintain the high quality education, student's knowledge is assessed on a regular basis. Therefore, to secure good grades it is essential that students take their studies seriously from the very beginning of the semester. Evaluation Criteria In order to ensure that the students do not study just at the end of the term and earn good grades, continuous assessment process takes place throughout the semester. Surprise quizzes, assignments, class discussions, midterms, seminars, events participation, Biztekian Vision participation, etc. all contribute to achievement of worthy grades. At Biztek, students' performance evaluation is done in a unique way. Biztek believes that business executives should be all-rounder. Therefore, in addition to classroom performance through quizzes and exams, students are expected to complete and present an assignment each semester. Students may also participate in Biztek's in house magazine i.e. Biztekian Vision in the form of original creative write-ups. To give students an exposure in terms of academic as well as non-academic activities (e. g. seminars, workshops, musical evenings), their presence and participation are considered mandatory and their attendance are marked and recorded for further assessment and consideration. This exercise helps them to remain alert in terms of participation and knowledge gain. 19
Academic System
Academic System
Credit Hour In semester system, the credit hours are counted. Theoretically, one credit hour is equivalent to 1 hour of teaching per week, and 1 lab hour is 2 hours of practical for a full 16-18 weeks semester. . Course Load The Course Load is defined as number of credit hours for which a student is registered in a semester. The academic course load varies according to his/her GPA. In the first semester the course load is pre-assigned by the academics department. Pre-Requisite It is the course which must be completed before taking a main course in a program of study. Some courses have prerequisites, which must be cleared first. Failure to clear prerequisites will result in the course cancellation and 'F' grade will be awarded. Add/Drop Course(s) Students may add or drop courses within a prescribed time frame subject to the approval of Academics Department. Course can only be dropped if there is a clash of timing with any other course or it has been completed previously. To add a course student should have the required GPA. Add/Drop facility is not available in the first semester. Transfer of Credit hours Students seeking admission at Biztek may be given an opportunity to transfer credit hours from recognized institutions. The request for transfer of credit hours may be submitted at the beginning of the program so that credits may be adjusted as per curriculum. The original documents of the semester passed and courses qualified should be submitted at the time of admission. Transfer of credits is the prerogative of the university. Semester Drop Semester Drop means that students can skip the regular semester for certain specific reasons. The request for drop of semester is to be submitted before the beginning of the semester. Coursework & Research Work Requirements The graduate & postgraduate programs include both coursework and research work. Research work can only begin after completion of the required coursework for MBA, MS or PhD programs. This research work will involve extensive input of knowledge and data related to practical world focusing towards some specific problems and recommendations in terms of proper solution to it. For this research work, the student has to select the Advisor to whom he/she will be liable to show the research progress on regular basis. On completion of research, the student will have to submit that report for final assessment. Teaching Methodologies At Biztek, quality is everyone's responsibility. The Institute has adopted new teaching methods focusing on developing analytical reasoning abilities as well as practical skills and knowledge of relevant disciplines. In order to improve the learning experience, Biztek considers it important to find out how the students are learning and how they view their learning environment. Students differ in their learning styles and they also differ in their views of what constitutes "good teaching". Student's feedback, gained through evaluation, has helped teachers to improve both their own teaching, and the learning experiences of their students. The main forms of teaching include: . . . . . Lectures/Case Methodology Seminars Workshops Conferences Small groups teaching

Incomplete (I) Grades Incomplete grades are only held for those students who fail to appear in the final examinations for some genuine reasons. Students requesting Incomplete (I) grade should seek approval from the Academic Department, which will ensure that the student meets attendance and other evaluation requirements. If the Final paper is attempted, no student may apply for an I Grade. The grade must be resolved in the first available semester otherwise 'F' grade will be awarded. GPA and CGPA GPA is the Grade Point Average and CGPA is the Cumulative Grade Point Average. GPA expresses student's academic achievement in each semester numerically. The GPA is calculated by adding the grade points for all courses in a semester and then dividing it by the total number of courses opted in a semester. The GPA ranges from 0.00 to a maximum of 4.00. CGPA is calculated by adding credit points earned for all the courses completed and dividing it by the total number of courses attempted in all the semesters. Semester Grade Points Average (GPA) is computed as follows:

Library In any university library is the first essential after classrooms. In modern times we see that ideas and innovations come from reading of books upon which sufficient research is done to convert the idea into practical reality. It has been proven that the classroom lectures need to be complemented with library consultations. Lectures are understood only after adequate assimilation at the library. Therefore, library is an essential element of all our campuses where admirably stocked libraries remain open during working hours. Our libraries also give access to internet enabling students to refer to internet while referring books at library. There are four sections of this library:
Facilities
Reference Section The reference section comprises dictionaries, encyclopedias and syndicated studies as well as government publications. Such data are essentially required for writing research papers and while completing any project or assignments.
