Throughout history, the most successful governments have achieved recognition by the method of trial and error.

Especially the United States of America, which o nce had a very week alliance between states, However, in current times, the unit ed states is a fully function government, the states cooperate and work in harmo ny. Soon after our government achieved independence from Great Britain, The main concern was to change the way our country is governed from a strong central gov ernment into a government where the deciding votes were divided between thirteen states or as it s called, the articles of confederation. The way it functioned is by giving each state its own independence, even though things like national legislation and congress were still a part of the system, e ach state maintained freedom. However, central government was still in charge of things like foreign relations, wars, and, to settle arguments between states am ong other powers, these powers were also given to the states themselves so the c ongress had to count on the cooperation from the states. Many problems arose fro m this kind of government, the congress did not have the power to govern individ ual people or trade, because of that it could not enforce legislations or regula te trade rendering foreign affairs almost useless since much of them involved tr ading. The congress could not the states, it had to request money and the states did not always cooperate. Later on it changed after the amendments failed to go through the ratification p rocess, which resulted in the Philadelphia Convention in 1787 which ensured that the new constitution and the adoption of the new form of government, the idea was created by the French philosopher Baron de Montesquieu, once it was realized that the people in power often abuse their powers, it was decided that the gove rnment should be divided into three branches that communicate and decides with one another, Legislative, executive and judicial. The legislative branch was in charge of making the law, the executive branch would put the laws into full eff ect, and when any problems arose the judicial branch would resolve them in accor dance with the law. Each branch has members that are carefully selected and have different terms in office, this was desired by the framers who wanted the people to have control by selecting the ruling leaders, the system ensures that the voters approve and co mply with the elected office representatives and therefore maintaining a strict democracy. The idea of separation of powers is a fundamental principle of the f ederal system that is within the United States. It s a form of government in which t he power is divided between the state governments and the central government. The central government is in charge of matters such as defense, foreign affairs and currency, the state government handles of areas such as education. The speci fic rights that are given to each government are listed in the constitution. If by any change a disagreement is to occur, the judicial branch is in charge of fi guring out a solution. Now a days the federation is significantly different from the confederation that once ruled the country because the central government ha s supreme power over the land. After the article of confederation failed, the Fr amers created a powerful but fair government that protects the right of the peop le and most importantly maintains democracy because it is difficult for a single part of the government to initiate abuse in conclusion, because of this form of successful government, the United States as we know it today is one of the most powerful countries in the world.
