Environmental Management and Ecotoxicology

Technology That Preserves the Living Space

Economic growth is determined in large part by factors such as competitiveness and quality of location. When these factors are defined as goals, however, they carry with them risks for the environment, because achieving them usually involves the increased consumption of resources, higher production output and larger volumes of waste, and the use of hazardous materials and technologies that harm the environment. More and more companies from a wide range of industries are recognizing these risks and their responsibilities, and are utilizing the opportunities that arise from implementing environmental engineering and management systems and ecotoxicological methods. Graduates of the Environmental Management and Ecotoxicology degree program have the skills and knowledge necessary to combine technical, economic, scientific and legal aspects in order to develop sustainable solutions. The degree program offers two specializations: Ecotoxicology and Environmental Management. The Ecotoxicology specialization keeps pace with the growing significance of this field by providing specialized knowledge about the effects of materials on all biological levels of the eco-system. Graduates are capable of identifying potential hazards for the environment and integrating appropriate risk assessments into workflows and production processes. Environmental engineering managers who complete the Environmental Management specialization can use their comprehensive knowledge to promote the use of alternative technologies in environmental management systems and in this way make an important contribution to ensuring that companies do business in a more environmentally friendly and at the same time more economical way.
