PERFORMANCE NOTES

The first symbol in parentheses indicates a "bow as needed" technique. The tremolo is to be performed as
unmeasured and as fast as reasonable. The arrow in between indicates a natural progression from one technique to
other, an evolution in intensity of bowing.
The piece is heavily dependent upon glissandi and are originally indicated by the "gliss." marking. In the first section,
the beginnings of each glissandi are indicated by a stem on the appropriate beat within a measure.
In the last section, starting in measure 183, the glissandi are continous and are not started by the stemming.
This piece has previously been recorded and performed with a conductor, establishing the steady tempo and tempi
transitions. It additionally has been noted that periodic measure indication with one hand while keeping the
conducting action in the other is very helpful at least in rehearsals. The 5/8 section is well performed in a "1" motion,
providing a strong ictus.
