Manufacturing is the production of goods using labor and machines, tools, chemical and biological processing. A manufactured product may be used to produce another products such as a large press, to shape flate sheet metal into automobile bodies, a drill for producing holes, industrial sawing machines for making clothing at high rates and numerous pieces of machinery to produce endless variety of individual items including components for automotive. Factors that encourage manufacturing industries to use computers in design, manufacturing, and other industrial activities (and sub-activities) Role of computer in manufacturing may be classified into two groups. The first one, computer is monitoring and control of the manufacturing process. Then, the second is manufacturing support applications, which deal essentially with the preparations for actual manufacturing and postmanufacture operations. 80% of resources and costs required to manufacture a product are committed at its design stage. Then, product analysis is required to identifying its main features and improves the product design in the future. Many factors influence the development of a product, some are listed below :

But, the main push factors for computer integrated approach in the design are: COST The cost of the materials and labor required to manufacture the product can be reduced. Include the price potential customers are prepared to pay for the product can be cheaper. FUNCTIONS The number of functions a product has to perform will inevitably affect its design. During the design stage, the feature of product can identify using 3D (3 dimensional) visualization capabilities.

INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION Capacity to plan and control manufacturing operation can be improved either using mass production, batch production or specialized item. Besides that, the advance software like CAD and CAM reduce lead time and improve reliability of the product. COMPANY IDENTITY The product may have to display the company image. Most companies are proud of their public image. But, the main target of the production is the quality and reliability. Using Computer Aided Design, the parametric errors can be identify and more accurate calculation in geometric properties

Importance of manufacturing activities to the developing countries such as Malaysia.

Since Malaysia became independent in 1957, Malaysias economic record has been one of Asias best. Real gross domestic product (GDP) grew by an avarage of 6.5% per year from 1957 to 2005. At one time, Malaysia became the largest producer of tin, rubber and palm oil in the word. Manufacturing has a large influence in the countrys economiy as Malaysia became worlds largest exporters of semiconductor components and devices, electrical goods, solar panels and information and commmmunication technology(ICT) products. As an oil and gas exporter, Malaysia has profited from higher world energy prices which provided income for country although the rising cost domestic gasoline and diesel fuel. With support from local oil producer Petronas, this company has been paying the Malaysian government a total of RM 529 .0 billion in dividends, taxes, petroleum proceeds and export duties. On top of that it has also been paying subsidies to TNB, IPPs and non-power parties a total of RM 136.5 billion since 1997. Furthermore, job opportunities in manufacturing sector are increasing because of the need of skilled worker to apply manufacturing process. The skilled worker increased the productivity as reduced scrap and rework in the production. As many job opportunities provided, the buying power among the people increase which are contribute to countrys economy.
