Lesson Time (5-10 minutes) Use good expression for the kids and make it exciting. If a picture is provided with the lesson, color it in advance to show as you tell the story.

Teacher: Every year Mary and Joseph and Jesus would take a family trip to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover. (Show a suitcase packed with items you
would take on a trip. Show these to the children and talk about why you need each item or how you would use it. Continue on with the story) This was a time of celebration like we

celebrate on Christmas or Easter. One year when Jesus was 12 year old, Mary and Joseph took a trip to Jerusalem. It was time to celebrate the Passover again. When they arrived, they had such a wonderful time spending the day in celebration. However, time passed quickly and soon it was time to go back home. After they had traveled for a short while, Mary noticed that Jesus was missing. Mary asked, Where is Jesus? Joseph said, Where is Jesus? No one could find Jesus. He was gone. Where was he? Where do you think he was? (Give time for any answers). Mary and Joseph decided to go back to Jerusalem and look for Jesus. They searched and searched and found Jesus in the temple. A temple is like our church today. Jesus was talking to the people there about the things of God. Mary asked Jesus why he ran away like that. Jesus told her he was obeying God in heaven. We should never hide or run from our parents, God would not want us to do that - ever. Jesus went home with Mary and Joseph and obeyed them after that. Music: Lets sing our song again. Jesus Took a Trip (Tune: Jesus Loves Me) Every year they took a trip, (walk in place) Mary, Joseph, and Jesus, too! (Hold up three fingers one at a time) When they got there they had fun, (Clap on had fun 2x) Celebrating a big feast. (Spread hands for feast)
