Six groups of students perform an experiment using a solid cone to determine the density of copper. The
values for mass, height and the average diameter of the cone for each group are as given in the table
below.
Group Number Mass (g) Height (cm) Average Diameter (cm)
1 202.60 0.05 6.520 0.003 3.662 0.004
2 145.70 0.05 11.900 0.003 2.323 0.005
3 216.50 0.05 15.320 0.003 2.451 0.004
4 198.20 0.05 16.500 0.003 2.250 0.005
5 245.40 0.05 17.600 0.003 2.483 0.004
6 185.90 0.05 7.850 0.003 3.221 0.005
(a) Analyze the data. (You will not submit this spreadsheet. However, the results will be needed later in
this problem.)
(i) Click to download the above copper data into an Excel spreadsheet.
(ii) Perform all calculations needed to compute the six volumes and uncertainties in volumes.
(iii) Perform all calculations needed to compute the densities and associated uncertainties for each of the
six readings.
