Use the exact values you enter to make later calculations.?

Six groups of students perform an experiment using a solid cone to determine the density of copper. The
values for mass, height and the average diameter of the cone for each group are as given in the table

(a) Analyze the data. (You will not submit this spreadsheet. However, the results will be needed later in
this problem.)
(i) Click to download the above copper data into an Excel spreadsheet.
(ii) Perform all calculations needed to compute the six volumes and uncertainties in volumes.
(iii) Perform all calculations needed to compute the densities and associated uncertainties for each of the
six readings.

(c) Graph the data.

(i) On the same Excel spreadsheet make a plot of mass vs. the volume.

(ii) Use the LINEST function to fit the data of mass versus volume to get the slope and uncertainty.

Thus the estimated model is

mass = 4.521156 +
2.24616*x
with R-squared of 0.242024 and estimated
standard deviation of u of 6.358097
and we forecast that for x = 6 we have y
=4.521156+2.24616*6 =17.99812

(iii) Report your values below.

slope = 25 26

SLOPE(A1:A6,B1:B6) yields the OLS slope estimate of 2.24616

(d) What is the density of the material of the cone as determined from the graph?
= 27 28
(e) What is the percent uncertainty?
29 %
(f) The accepted value of the density of copper is 8.93 g/cm3. Compare this to the experimental value
you got from your graph by finding the percent error.
30 %
Especially I want to figue our how many significant figues I need to keep and how to figue out the
uncertainties.
