TODAY The Sun is publishing the naked Prince Harry party pictures our
readers have been prevented from seeing in print.
We are doing so despite warnings from the Royal Family's lawyers- and we'll explain why.
Before we do, let's be clear on one thing.

The Sun is NOT making any moral judgement about Harry's nude frolics with girls in a Las Vegas
hotel. Far from it. He often sails close to the wind for a Royal- but he's 27, single and a soldier.
We like him.
We are publishing the photos because we think Sun readers have a right to see them.
The reasons for that go beyond this one story.
The images were first published on the web three days ago. But the Palace's lawyers, via the
Press Complaints Commission, warned the UK's newspapers against printing them, claiming they
would breach Harry's privacy and the PCC Code.
Since then the entire UK media- print, online and TV- has reported on them and told readers
and viewers how to find them on TMZ.com, the website that first published them, and on
countless other sites that followed suit.
That coverage put those pictures a mouse-click away from anyone in the 77 per cent of British
households with internet access.
Splash News
Millions duly found them on sites from Canada to New Zealand. By yesterday, the photographs
were indisputably in the public domain everywhere in the world.
That generated a legitimate public debate about the behaviour of the man who is third in line to
the throne and increasingly taking on official duties, as he did most recently at the Olympics'
closing ceremony.
Yet as that debate went on in homes, factories, offices and pubs, the Press were still effectively
banned from using the pictures.
The many millions of people who get their news in print, or have no web access, could not take a
full part in that national conversation because they could not see the images.
The Royal Family's lawyers claim there is no public interest in The Sun running the photos. This is
a favourite mantra of those who wish to muzzle the world's most vibrant newspapers, here in
Britain- stuffily declaring that a story has "no public interest", as though it were an unassailable
fact.
But there is a clear public interest in publishing the Harry pictures, in order for the debate around
them to be fully informed. The photos have potential implications for the Prince's image
representing Britain around the world.
There are questions over his security during the Las Vegas holiday. Questions as to whether his
position in the Army might be affected.
Further, we believe Harry has compromised his own privacy.
These are not pictures of him and a girlfriend at Balmoral. The Prince was in Vegas, the party
capital of a country with strong freedom-of-speech laws, frolicking in the pool before inviting
strangers to his hotel room for a game of strip billiards.
Why The Sun has decided to print Prince Harry snaps Sun Exclusive
MANAGING Editor David Dinsmore explains thinking behind decision to publish notorious images
These are hardly the acts of a man jealously guarding his privacy. And, sadly for Harry, what
happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas.
Compare that with Prince William and Kate, whose desire for quiet privacy on their honeymoon
was respected by the British Press in the kind of arrangement we have readily agreed to with the
Royal Family in the past and will doubtless agree to again.
Lastly, we believe printing the photos IS within the Press Complaints Commission's code, based
on a previous PCC ruling in favour of a UK magazine which published pictures already widely
seen online.
On that occasion the PCC said that in privacy matters its code "required the Commission to have
regard to the extent to which material is already in the public domain" .
It concluded: "The Commission felt that the images were so widely established for it to be
untenable for the Commission to rule that it was wrong for the magazine to use them."
We have asked the PCC to explain why this case could be any different.
The Prince Harry pictures are a crucial test of Britain's free Press.
It is absurd that in the internet age newspapers like The Sun could be stopped from publishing
stories and pictures already seen by millions on the free-for-all that is the web.
It was vital for us to run them.
An otticer and a gentleman
By PETE SAMSON, US Editor
PERFECT gent Prince Harry hugged a naked blonde from behind to protect her modesty, a
witness at his wild party in a Las Vegas hotel told The Sun last night.
Army officer Harry, also naked, was pictured showing his bare backside as he wrapped his arms
around the girl during a game of strip pool.
But another girl partygoer insisted: "He hugged her to cover her up. He went over to be the
gentleman and said, 'I'll shield you. I'll protect you. I won't let them see you'. She seemed to like
that very much. There were no complaints from her. She was naked in front of 25 people."
We can now reveal details of the after-hours bash in Harry's 5,000-a-night Sin City hotel suite
last Friday.
It emerged he was the FIRST to strip -whipping off his swimming shorts in front of around 15
women.
And he later DISAPPEARED with the pretty blonde playmate who was pictured naked with him,
our source said.
Another photo at the party shows Harry, 27, covering his crown jewels with his hands. Both snaps
have been seen by millions around the world.
The partygoer revealed: "When we got to the room, Prince Harry was already there. There were
about 25 people in total -at least 15 girls.
"There is a beautiful billiards room in the suite. One of the guys said, 'I've an idea. Let's spice up a
game of pool'. Harry said, 'Let's f****** do it!' That was what jump-started the party.
"The rules were, if you potted the ball, you got to go again. If you missed, you took a piece of
clothing off. Harry pulled that girl up to play with him. She had her eyes on Harry, so she was
going to do anything.
Cue fun and games ... pool table in suite at Wynn hotel
"He was helping her hold the cue. He was very attentive and hands-on, showing her how to do it.
He only had eyes for her. She was blonde and petite. She was definitely someone he met for the
first time that night.
"He went first and was just in his swimming shorts- he didn't have any underwear on. So he got
naked straight away. His friends gave him a hard time about being naked. This was around 4am.
Everybody was watching when he took his clothes off. It was exciting for the girls. He was in great
shape. I'm not a redhead fan but he was hot.
"The girl missed her shot and took her dress off. Then she shot again and took her bra off. Later
they put their clothes back on, because the game was over. They sat on the couch together,
talking, and he offered her a beer.
"He had his eyes set on her from the start. He was very into her. She was giddy to be in the
company of the Prince and he was flirting with her.
"I don't know where they went but they disappeared at the same time at the end of the night. It
was about 5.30am. Most people had gone to bed. "
Our insider said four men and two girls played strip pool while the rest looked on. But one of the
girls pulled out without removing any clothes.
The witness said: "No one asked for our phones or anything about us when we arrived at the
party. It was obvious people were taking pictures."
The source, who does not want to be named, recalled Harry was excited at the prospect of
meeting pop superstar Jennifer Lopez, 43, the next day.
She revealed: "He loves Vegas. He said, 'I always have a f****** good time. Look at this room'. It
was a two-floor suite with at least three bedrooms and an amazing view.
"There was music, lots of noise and excitement. He was very friendly. There was no mention of
him being a prince. He was up for whatever was going to happen that night. Harry also knew
Jennifer Lopez was in town. He said, 'I'm going to party with J-Lo'. He was back by the pool to
party again five hours after we left him. "
Wynn hotel ... Harry's suite cost 5,000-a-night
The partygoer and pals spotted Harry and his group at Surrender nightclub in the posh Wynn
hotel. Harry was staying at an exclusive area of the hotel complex, the Encore Tower Suites.
She said: "We thought he looked hot. We wanted to get closer but couldn't as he was very well
guarded. Everyone was dancing and we became friendly with one of his friends. In the early hours
we were invited up to the room."
A barman at the Encore said: "It's easy to find girls at Surrender. They are all dressed really sexy
and competing with each other for guys."
A waitress said: "Harry was in great spirits. He was talking to girls, having a great time." A female
reveller added: "He was a super-nice gentleman. He was kicking back, having fun."
Friday night's session kicked off 72 hours of partying for helicopter pilot Harry, who was letting his
hair down during leave from military duties.
He went on to the Wet Republic party at the MGM Grand hotel on Saturday. On Sunday night he
was at the XS nightclub in the Wynn hotel.
In the early hours of Monday, he jumped into the pool with his jeans on to challenge US Olympic
swimmer Ryan Lochte, 28, to a race.
Harry then flew back to the UK on Tuesday night- to face the music.

Silence over Edward too
By ANNE SEBBA, Biographer of Wallis Simpson
THE Palace's bid to stop UK papers printing pictures of Harry that are on the internet raises
comparisons with Edward and Wallis Simpson.
Harry's great-great uncle Edward VIII was embroiled in a love affair with Mrs Simpson, an
American divorcee still married to her second husband, in the 1930s.
Yet while the rest of the world could read about the relationship, British newspapers were silent.
Imported US magazines which carried details of Wallis, or showed her with Edward, had pages
scissored out of them before they could go on sale in Britain.
Of course some people, the well-travelled and wealthy, knew all about the romance.
And there was gossip - though it was largely restricted to a small circle in London who
understood discretion and loyalty.
Staff and servants at various country houses where the royal couple stayed also knew exactly
who was using which bedrooms and when, but were incredibly deferential to the monarchy.
In 1937 the King's Proctor, the Government lawyer investigating the Simpson divorce, ruled he
had not been presented with any evidence to indicate why it should not go ahead. But that was
largely because he dared not interview the one servant who could have given accurate
information, Wallis' maid.
He said: "It is not the practice of the King's Proctor to endeavour to get information from servants."
Wallis accused several of her friends of making money, once the story of her love affair broke, by
revealing details of her past life.
But this was harmless stuff compared with nude photos. An old friend of hers declined an offer of
10,000 dollars for a snapshot of Wallis in his garden- fully clothed.
Other friends who shared yacht trips with the royal couple, or were guests at Edward's hideaway
home in Windsor, wrote diaries which could not be published at the time detailing the wild parties
and hedonistic behaviour.
One described "orgies ... when Mrs Simpson did the 'danse du ventre' (a belly dance) and other
un-English performances".
A lady aristocrat on a cruise in 1936 had no camera but her horrified eye noted "how the young
King came scrambling down the stairs naked but for two little sandals, flannel shorts and two
crosses on a gold chain around his neck".
