Crab Species 1

Figure 1 Crab Species 1; (a) dorsal view, (b) ventral view, (c) anterodorsal view

Initial Identification: Macrophthalmus sp. Characters: Carapace is transversely rectangular (2 inches); blunt frontal margin; three anterolateral spines on both sides; anterolateral margin have stiff hairs/setae. Long eyestalks. Posterior margin appearing gently convex. H-shaped depression along the carapace. Slender pincers and pereopods; setae are present on four spine-edged walking legs. Color: purple appearance on carapace and pereopods; distinct black color in the abdomen. Note: Caught using Fyke net Habitat: Mangrove-dominated tidal creeks, muddy Panabo City, Davao del Norte (Part of Davao Gulf)

Crab Species 2

Figure 2 Crab Species 2; (a) dorsal view, (b) ventral view

Initial Identification: Varuna litterata (Fabricius, 1798) Characters: Carapace is squarish (1.2 inches), surface smooth and shiny; frontal margin is straight; 3 spines on both anterolateral margins, very broad, low but sharp spines. Dactylus, propodus, and carpus of legs are laterally flattened, fringed with long, closely packed setae. Color: light brown dorsal surface.

Note: Caught using Fyke net Habitat: Mangrove-dominated tidal creeks, muddy Panabo City, Davao del Norte (Part of Davao Gulf)

Crab Species 3

Figure 3 Crab Species 3; (a) dorsal view, (b) ventral view, (c) anterolateral view

Initial Identification: Thalamita crenata (Latreille, 1829) Characters: Surface of carapace is smooth (2.5 in), ridges low but distinct; frontal margin with 6 equal-sized, rounded lobes. Anterolateral margin have 6 spines on each side. Spines present on outer surface of propodus, carpus, and merus. Last pair of swimming legs is oar shape. Color: dark to olive green. Note: Caught using Fyke net Habitat: Mangrove-dominated tidal creeks, muddy Panabo City, Davao del Norte (Part of Davao Gulf)

Crab Species 4

Figure 4 Crab Species 4; (a) dorsal view, (b) ventral view, (c) anterodorsal view

Initial Identification: Scylla serrata (Forsskal, 1775)

Characters: Carapace smooth (3 inches), with strong transverse ridges; H-shaped groove deep; broad anterolateral teeth, projecting obliquely outwards. Nine anterolateral spines on both sides of carapace. Spines present on outer surface of propodus, carpus, and merus. Last pair of swimming legs is oar shape. Color: carapace green to almost black. Note: Caught using Fyke net Habitat: Mangrove-dominated tidal creeks, muddy Panabo City, Davao del Norte (Part of Davao Gulf)

Crab Species 5

Figure 5 Crab Species 5; (a) dorsal view, (b) ventral view Initial Identification: Hemigrapsus takanoi (Asakura & Watanabe, 2005)

Characters: Three lateral spines on each side of a square-shaped carapace. Light brown fuzzy growth (setal patch) at base of pincers. Color variable: Light brown to dark. Carapace width: 1.3 cm (juvenile). Note: Caught using Fyke net Habitat: Mangrove-dominated tidal creeks, muddy Panabo City, Davao del Norte (Part of Davao Gulf)

Crab Species 6

Figure 6 Crab Species 6; (a) dorsal view, (b) ventral view

Initial Identification: No idea

Characters: Carapace is transversely hexagonal, rough surface (2 cm). Anterolateral margin possess three low and blunt spines on both sides, first spine (near the eyes) is relatively larger. Right pincer is bigger. Walking legs hairy. Walking legs covered with setae. Color: brown to black. Ectoparasitic oyster (shell) on attached on both merus. Note: Caught using Fyke net Habitat: Mangrove-dominated tidal creeks, muddy Panabo City, Davao del Norte (Part of Davao Gulf)
