Background of Research Kolej Matrikulasi Teknikal Pahang (later will be referred as KMTPh) has two cafeterias,

at the administration block, Caf AL-Amin which is located far from the hostel the one which is near the hostel, is called Caf Az-Zunaini. Everyday, KMTPh students will go separately to each cafeteria. Since Caf Al-Amin has closed due to the renovation, many problems seem to occur one by one. Recently, in September, while the KMTPh students were studying for their PSPM, due to that examination they keep on studying late at night. Since they have stayed up too long, they lost their energy too much and cannot concentrate in their study. Bouchez, C. has quoted from New York University nutritionist, Heller, S. that it is harder to concentrate on tasks, and, eventually, you can also find your patience grows short and your level of frustration rises, even when confronted with seemingly simple challenges when we are tired in his article entitled Top 10 Ways to Boost Your Energy. In an article in MIT Medical Communities that has been adapted from UCLAs Student Nutrition Action Committee, it was stated that we need to eat at least every 4 to 5 hours especially as a college student, because college students stay up much later than average people. In that case, KMTPh students should take specific meal to boost their energy back in order to refresh their brain. In an article entitled Food to Fuel Your Brain, in Readers Digest (pg 137), it is mentioned that if you still have more things to do for the next hour at night, you should have a light meal that will give you energy. Bouchez, C also mentioned that the carbohydrate supplies instant energy, the protein increases your energy and the fat keeps your energy last longer.

Besides losing their concentration in studying, it will also loosen their focus in the tomorrow morning because they are worn out all night long. The students will feel sleepy in the next morning. Peri, C. has mentioned in her article entitled 12 Tips to Avoid Daytime Sleepiness that regular mealtimes, is not just regular sleeping times, helps to regulate our circadian rhythms. She has also stated that by eating food on time will prevent energy deficits during the day that will aggravate the feelings of sleepiness that usually occurs to students.

Statement of Problem

Recently, the cafeteria that used to be in the academic block, Caf Al-Amin, has been closed due to renovation. This makes the situation is getting worst because the other cafeteria Caf Az-Zunaini which is near to the hostel is too crowded. All of the students will gather in one place at one time, therefore the cafeteria cannot accommodate too many students in it. So, the researcher is going to do a research whether building varieties of stalls will help to reduce the crowd or not. Besides that, the food which is being sold in Caf Az-Zunaini is also insufficient for the whole students. This is because there are too many students having their meal at this cafeteria due to Caf Al-Amin which has been closed at least for one to two months. Therefore, if some students are coming late to that caf, they could only afford to buy drinks despite of having a delicious meal there. Therefore the researcher is suggesting that the college should build variety of stalls to offer more selection of food. Just like the previous PSPM examination in last September, whereby most of the students were studying late at night for every night they will burn their midnight oil without taking care about their health. Therefore, they tend to be sleepy in tomorrow classes. They lost their focus in classes due to lack of energy. Therefore the researcher came with an idea to ask the administrator to provide variety stalls which should be operated late at night at least until 1a.m. in the morning for the students who like to study late at night.

Research Objective

The purpose of this research is: 1.3.1 1.3.2 To search for solution to cope with the insufficient of food in cafeteria. To find out the problems faced by the students due to lack of food at the cafeteria. 1.3.3 To investigate whether empty stomach will lead to sleepiness in morning class.
