Teacher will help students develop computer skills through the use of internet materials. Teacher will help students recognize that historical events often have lasting impacts that can be seen in modern society.

TIME Start of Class: Bell ringer activity: The teacher will assess students prior knowledge of Franklin Roosevelt and the New Deal by asking them to write down everything they know about the two topics. Students will then share their answers with the class while the teacher writes all of the shared answers on the board. Introduction of Lesson: Once all of the answers from students have been shared and recorded, the teacher will then go over any important facts about the two topics that did not come out in discussion with students (making sure to cover how the two topics are related, as well as time frame and historical context). The teacher will then show the students the video clip about the New Deal, asking them to take notes. Lesson Instruction: After the video the teacher will then direct the students to the website <www.studentnewsdaily.com/conservative-vs-liberal-beliefs/> and ask them to read through the top section. Once students have read the necessary material, they will then be split into groups. Each group is to discuss whether or not Franklin Roosevelt more closely aligns with the conservative or liberal side of politics based on the reading they just did as well as evidence from the video clip they watched. Each group must write a one page paper discussing their answer using evidence from the reading and the video clip. Assessments/Checks for Understanding: The teacher will be monitoring student work during class time to ensure that each group understands the material and is making sufficient progress on the assignment. The final written paper that the groups produce will be assessed, and each group will also be given the opportunity to give a presentation to the class if they feel that their written paper does not adequately express their findings.

Closure/Wrap-up/Review: At the end of class, the teacher will ask students to put away all of their materials and get out a blank sheet of paper and a pencil/pen. Students will then take 2 minutes to write down at least 3 things that they learned about FDR or the New Deal. Students will again share their answers, and the teacher will pose a final question for students to think about/research for next class: The video about the New Deal stated that there are some aspects of the New Deal that are still in place today. What are some of these and what do they do for society?
