A. History of Hand Grenades :

From a historical point of view, the grenade as a weapon is known to have been made with the discovery of explosives. It is reported to have been used as early as the 15th century. During that time, the grenade was shaped like a French Pomegranate. In the middle of 12th century, selected soldiers, then called Grenadiers were using the grenade with fetal effects. But soon, it fell into disuse as improved versions of the rifle were introduced which consequently increased the range between front lines. Sometimes, later particularly in the 20th century, attacking troops found the grenade to be an essential weapon. It was discovered to be effective in clearing enemy at short ranges. Grenade is thrown away, while the launched grenade is fired from a launcher.

B. Classification of Grenades :

Grenades are classified as Explosive, Chemical and Practice.

1. Explosive Grenades which produced fragmentation or blast, are used for anti personnel, harassing, and incendiary. 2. Chemical which produced smoke when they explode it and it may signaling purposes. 3. Practice Grenades may be inserts or have a small change for making practice throws

C. Definition of Terms :
1. Hand Grenades are fitted with the delayed action fuse for explosive grenades, the delayed is about 4.5 seconds. The fuse of a chemical grenade, on the other hand has a delayed action of 2 seconds and usually burns rather than explodes launcher grenades have instant fuses. 2. Launcher Grenades are most likely to be either the anti-personnel explosive type with the fragmentation warhead, or high explosive antitank one. The latters shaped charge warhead is very effective armor. 3. Offensive Grenades- these are types that contain an explosive charged in a fiber body and a designed for concussion effect to stun the enemy in enclosed places so that the thrower can charge the enemy in a dazed condition. 4. Chemical Grenades- these grenades condition chemical agents designed to produce a toxic, irritating effect, a casually effect, a screening or signal smoke, an incendiary action, or a combination of these other effects. 5. Fuses of Grenades- fuses for hand grenades are classified as either detonating or igniting. A detonating fuse contains a small quantity of violent and comparatively sensitive explosive which sets off the move inert explosive charge in the body of fragmentation grenade.

D. Techniques / Procedures to be employed

Grip the hand grenade the safest way to grip a hand grenade for throwing is to hold it so that the safety level is hold down by the thumb, while keeping the pull ring (and safety clip of present) free and facing the non throwing hand. 2. Position body and armed the grenade. 3. Fragmentation M 67 with time fuse 213 is your best all around choice. It can be thrown a little over 40 meters by most soldiers within 15 meters when it explodes.

If a grenade is accidentally dropped after the safety pin has been removed immediately pick up, throw it in the intended direction, should grenade, and the sell nearby shelter, or drop to the ground with the helmet toward the grenade.

F. Parts of Grenades
1. Pull ring 2. Safety pin 3. Safety level 4. Striker 5. Striker spring 6. Primer 7. Body 8. Delay element 9. Detonator or Igniter 10.Filler

G. Demonstration of Grenades : a. Proper way of holding Grenade b. Grenade throwing position (kneeling) c. Standing

III. SUMMARY
From a historical point of view, the grenades weapon is known to have been made with the discovery of explosives. From the past soldiers, they use a rifle. But soon grenade was already create, they use for the Armed Forces of the Philippines to destroy or to clear the area terrain were they covered it by the enemy. Grenades create a big explosive because of their chemical and splinter that mixed it. There are two basic types of grenades, the hand and launcher. The hand grenade is thrown away by using of demonstrating our hand, while the launcher is used to fire from a launcher like a cannon or any weapon that uses of an explosive anti-tank one. Do not play grenades because it is dangerous thing, it destroyed a hard object or it can cause to die.
