Workshop on Indonesia REDD+ Preparedness for Tropical Forest Management

Long-term Terrestrial Carbon Budget Estimation in Papua Island for REDD+ Preparedness (Joint Research between Hiroshima University (HU), IPB, Students/ IDEC-HU Alumni from Ministry of Forestry, ITB, and Unipa) --- Early Stage (gathering information)

September 17, 2012 at IPB, Bogor

Objective
Kalimantan case (Dr. Arno)

The main objective of the Workshop is to introduce dynamic vegetation model for long-term analysis of carbon balance estimation using high-precision Alos Palsar data (Radar) for REDD+ implementation and to update information on the current condition of REDD+

1. To share legal framework and national strategy of REDD+, establishment of Reference Emission Level (REL), Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system with development of National Carbon Accounting System (INCAS), solving the drivers of Deforestation and Degradation (DD), and financial system from the Ministry of Forestry of Republic Indonesia. 2. To learn Alos Palsar data interpretation for high-precision forest resources assessment and monitoring, and implementation to forest landscape ecology from IPB. 3. To introduce dynamic vegetation model for long-term analysis of carbon balance estimation on climate change related issues from ITB and Hiroshima University (HU). 4. To promote local institute or university for accurately measuring and verification carbon balance data.
