26% of those lost were officers, which severely depleted the leadership of the FDNY in the aftermath of 9/11.
Manhattan suffered 58% of those lost, with Ladder companies making up almost half of those lost in that borough. The special operations companies (Rescues, Squads, Haz-Mat) also suffered heavily, with 85 personnel lost among just 11 apparatus.
