CONVOY APPLICATION BRIEF

REAL-TIME SITUATION AWARENESS

VEHICLE-TO-VEHICLE CONNECTIVITY

MAINTAINING MOBILE CONNECTIVITY

On a steep mountain highway, a live feed from a video camera mounted on the lead vehicle alerts every soldier in the convoy to be on the lookout due to suspected sniper activity in the area.

A small mobile reconnaisance unit is surprised by a landslide triggered by ordnance explosions in the area. As the vehicles veer off the road and increase speed, vehicle-to-vehicle connectivity is maintained despite the evasive action.

A convoy enroute to an FOB receives urgent change of mission orders via satellite from the command center. The transmission is received on a vehiclemounted satellite receiver, and sent out to every vehicle via the RDB 350 network.

THE NETWORKED CONVOY: FASTER AND SAFER

Wherever there are military forces on the ground, youll find the convoy. Nothings more basic to bringing crucial supplies to forces in forward operating bases (FOBs) and other in-theater locations than convoys delivering everything from food and water to gasoline to healthcare supplies to fresh troops. Today, theres nothing thats more important to convoy operations than convoy protection and safety. And crucial to convoy safety are high-speed communications: voice, data and video.

STREAMING VIDEO AWARENESS

Leading-edge mobile video capabilities help the RDB 350 provide real-time convoy-wide situation awareness. Video cameras can be mounted on vehicles at the front, rear and/ or on either side of the convoy. Live video is uplinked from all cameras to a central component and sent to all vehicles in the convoy, providing real-time situation awareness for everyone.

ABOUT CAMBIUM NETWORKS Cambium Networks, formerly part of Motorola Solutions, Inc., is an independent company providing world-class wireless broadband and microwave solutions for military, government, municipal and enterprise customers around the world. Cambium Networks currently has more than three million products deployed and provides reliable, secure, cost-effective connectivity in thousands of networks in over 150 countries.

THE CAMBIUM RDB 350

The Cambium RDB 350 is a multipoint mobile wireless system that connects and helps protect every vehicle and individual in the convoy. The RDB 350 is a cost-effective commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) rapidly deployable broadband (RDB) solution ruggedized for military use and tested to MIL-STD-810G. Through its industry standard WiMAX 802.16e technology, the RDB 350 offers high-speed, highly reliable mobile voice and data connectivity. Especially important today, it also enables live video feeds.

CONNECTING THE CONVOY

The RDB 350 mobile system consists of a vehicle-mounted access point (AP) installed as a nomadic base station, with vehicle-mounted remote modules (RMs) in all vehicles in the convoy. The system provides vehicle-to-vehicle connectivity at speeds of up to 50 mph (80 kph), during changes of course or direction and over difficult road conditions. In addition, the RDB 350 offers 802.16e features such as advanced error correction, periodic ranging and MIMO technology. These assure outstanding RF resiliency, helping to ensure coverage in extreme weather conditions and in rugged near-line-of-sight (nLOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) environments. The system can also distribute communications arriving via satellite link to all vehicles in the convoy.

BETTER CONNECTED MEANS BETTER PROTECTED

The Cambium RDB 350 is a multipoint broadband network that answers an urgent, growing need: enhanced convoy communications and security. Leveraging Cambium Networks expertise in mobile and mission-critical communications, the RDB 350 is a high-performance mobile solution ruggedized to withstand the rigors of military convoy applications. What makes the RDB 350 so effective?
BUILT-IN MOBILITY. With its industry-standard IEEE 802.16e WiMax technology, the RGB 350 offers built-in

mobility, long-distance ranging and the ability to deliver communications connectivity at speeds of up to 50 mph (80 kph).
MIL-SPEC-810G COMPLIANCE. The RDB 350 is built for the hard use and rugged environments of military

applications. The equipment is compliant with stringent military standards for shock, vibration, temperature extremes, water, humidity, dust, sand and much more.
MIMO A AND B SUPPORT. The system supports the upload and download capabilities of MIMO A and B THE CAMBIUM RDB 350
For communications and logistics officers looking for a simpler, more reliable, more affordable alternative to expensive, nonmobile 802.16d-based systems, the Cambium RDB 350 offers a powerful new offthe-shelf solution for optimizing convoy operations.

technology, allowing for faster downloads to all vehicles in the convoy.

TRAFFIC PRIORITY. The RDB 350 leverages its WiMAX 802.16e technology to provide sophisticated

prioritization, establishing dedicated throughput for various applications, and offering the ability to prioritize inter-vehicle communications.
ADAPTIVE MODULATION. With adaptive modulation, RDB 350 radios are able to speed up or slow down to

adapt to RF challenges, while still being able to maintain communications.

SPECTRUM EFFICIENCY. The system is designed with exceptional spectrum efficiency, allowing RDB 350 radios

to deliver a high data rate while using minimum spectrum and helping to mitigate against interference.

SPACE DIVERSITY. The RDB 350 system allows for the use of two separate antennas per radio, providing horizontal

and vertical polarization, which can substantially improve performance.

SYSTEM GAIN. The The RDB 350s transmission power and receiver sensititivity translate to high system gain

that provides the ability to transmit farther and faster with the smallest possible antenna, making the system easier to transport, install and align.
SECURITY. The RDB 350 assures high levels of security with over-the-air 128-bit AES encryption and can interface

with third party bulk encryption devices.
