The Building Blocks of Peace Lesson Plans

The Building Blocks of Peace is a series of free teaching materials that offer an innovative perspective to the issues surrounding peace and conflict at the local, regional, and global levels. Downloadable in PDF format, the modules come complete with teacher notes, lesson plans, student handouts, assessment suggestions, extension activities, and visualizations. The step-by-step lesson plans are designed for 14-16 year old students, and include guides to the United States National Council for Social Studies Thematic Strands. The Institute for Economics and Peace develops new conceptual frameworks to define peacefulness; provides metrics for measurement; uncovers the relationship between peace, business, and prosperity; and promotes a better understanding of the social, economic, and political factors that drive peacefulness. IEP produces the Global Peace Index and the United States Peace Index that measure peacefulness at national and regional levels and provide rich data, resources, and visualizations for teaching.
