Course description and Objectives

The aim of the course is to provide an understanding of human behaviour at work. It covers individual behaviour and performance, emotions, attitudes, job satisfaction, perception, motivation, teams and teamwork, conflict and negotiation, communication, power and politics, leadership, culture and organisational structure.

Subject Learning Outcomes

Upon the completion of the subject, students should be able to perform the following tasks: 1. Demonstrate awareness and understanding on various organisational behaviour. 2. Identify the importance of individual, group and systems in influencing human behaviours. 3. Propose strategies to solve organisational behaviour issues in organisations. 4. Display self confidence in interpersonal relationship and social setting.

Group Consulting Project A. Description of the project: Students will be divided into groups. Each group is to identify ONE area of Organisational Behaviour (OB) that is perceived by any existing organisation of its choice as the most significant/urgent area which requires attention. The OB area could be leadership, communication, teamwork, organisational politics etc. Groups are to analyse their chosen problems and propose suitable solutions using their knowledge of relevant OB concepts. The findings are to be delivered in TWO presentations. B. Objectives: To provide opportunities for OB concept applications by students. To support the learning process on OB key concepts. C. Presentation 1: 25 minutes (incl. Q&A) The presentation will focus on the concept. The objective this presentation exercise is to articulate students understanding of the applied OB concepts for the chosen case, and for them to rationalise why the issue is urgent for the case. D. Presentation 2: 25 minutes (incl. Q&A) This is CASE presentation. The objective of this presentation exercise is to apply the OB area onto the chosen case picked by the group, and for the members of the group to propose workable solution. E. The Process 1. Group formation a. Form a group with students in the same tutorial section. b. Group size should be between 5-6 persons. c. There should be no more than 6 groups in a tutorial section. d. Students are to stay in the same group for the whole semester. 2. Identify an organisation of your choice. 3. The task: a. Gather the detailed background of the organisation: such as name, location, mission, vision, employees profile, etc. b. Identify and rationalise the OB issue (the related concept) faced by the organisation. Look for the symptoms and potential causes, and you may 3

Indicate the advantages and disadvantages of your proposed solutions. 4. Each group is required to make TWO 20-minute presentations as per sections C and D. A 5-minute Q&A session will follow after each presentation. The groups will be penalised for bad time-management during the presentations. 5. The reports should be presented i. in Times New Roman, size 12, ii. 1.5 spacing, iii. with relevant reference iv. maximum 20 pages. The groups are to submit i. the bound printed hard copy of the reports ii. the soft copy of Presentation (1 & 2) slides before presentation 2. Include the following together with your submission copy: a. Cover page (Appendix 1) b. Proof of submission (Appendix 2) c. Item checklist (Appendix 3)
