2. (a) Explain with analytical expression, the concept of pure controller mode which
is anticipatory in nature. List its characteristics.
(b) Why a pure derivative is not preferred? Draw the controller o/p for the error
given below P0 = 50% Kp = 7, Kd = 0.2 sec. (P0 – controller o/p with no

3. (a) Explain the principle of operation of a differential pressure cell and explain
how it can be used to measure level.
(b) Explain about any two non − contact of type of flow measurement. [8+8]
4. (a) Explain the working principle of hydraulic proportional controller. How pro-
portional gain can be adjusted in this controller.
(b) Explain the working principle of a displacement type of pneumatic propor-
tional controller. Discuss the effect of adding the negative feedback. [8+8]

(a) Derive the transfer function of this system to study the temperature process
if the rate of flow of process stream is constant.
(b) Make a correction in the transfer function if the rate of flow of the process
stream is also a variable. Also discuss about the time constant for a high flow
rate and low flow rate. [8+8]
3. (a) Discuss about the selection of temperature sensors for various applications.
(b) Briefly explain how a supply for pneumatic system is arranged. [8+8]
4. (a) What are the advantages of force type pneumatic controller? Describe with
neat diagrams, the working of a force type pneumatic proportional controller.
(b) With necessary diagrams, describe the hydraulic integral controller. Explain
how integral time can be adjusted. [8+8]
6. Describe briefly how the pressure of the steam is controlled in the boiler drum with
mathematical explanation. [16]
7. Discuss the use of feed forward control for steam flow in an evaporator. [16]

(b) Describe the P+I+D action with its equation. What is the response of P+I+D
action for unit ramp error i/p and plot it. How PID action is better than PI

3. What is the purpose of transmission system used in a process control system and
explain with neat sketches the pneumatic and electrical transmission system. [16]
4. How are proportional and integral actions realized in a pneumatic controller? Ob-
tain the transfer function of such a controller. How do you adjust the integrating
time of a PI Pneumatic controller? [16]
5. (a) Draw a neat figure of pneumatic actuator with a positioner and explain. List
its advantages.
