We are currently seeking a dynamic and innovative Safety Specialist to develop and facilitate training, auditing, task evaluation, investigation and injury/incident elimination and behavioral based initiatives. Ensure site is compliant with all state and federal safety regulations. Develop and implement corporate safety program.

Duties and responsibilities include:


Provide technical guidance and direction in the implementation of safety policies. Participate in the investigation of accidents, incidents and in the preparation of necessary reports. Maintain all regulatory logs and documents as it relates to record keeping and training records. Report any factors that influence potential for injury or accident and provide recommendations for future improvement. Audit activities for all facilities, including a monthly off-hours audit. Regularly perform job safety analysis on all job functions and operational activities. Make recommendations on safety procedures based on findings. Coordinate supplemental inspections whenever new process, equipment or substances are introduced, or new or previously unrecognized hazards are identified. Lead safety committee in promotion of efforts including, but not limited to: accident awareness (based on observations and frequencies of incidents), auditing, investigations, training, program development, etc. Take an active role in the safety training of new associates during orientation, including forklift training, general safety awareness and task specific training. Track exposure, metrics and all other vital information indicative of overall performance. Report weekly events and accomplishments to VP of Operations and Service Center Team. Coach and redirect associates for actions or activities that are contrary to safety procedures and protocol. Build relationships with entire organization and foster a solid working relationship including involvement as a member of safety teams. Maintain and foster collaborative effort with all site business functions and the Safety Team to identify, establish and share best practices. Establish and maintain strong rapport with supervisors and associates on a daily basis. Establish a strong presence in manufacturing environment that is felt on a daily basis.

Serve on an on-call basis, answering emergencies as they develop and reporting these in a timely manner. Special projects and other job related duties as assigned.

Qualified applicants will possess the following:


Bachelors Degree in Business Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related field: or equivalent work experience. CPR/AED First Aid Certified (or able to pass certification within 6 months of hire). Technologically savvy with experience in MS Office products and Windows-based computer applications. Three years industrial safety leadership experience. Business management skills with proven ability to implement recommended processes and transfer knowledge to associates. Experience in developing and implementing OSHA, DOT and EPA mandated programs. Ability to clearly convey information and ideas with all levels of the organization. Creative, innovative and strategic thinker with proven problem resolution skills and process improvement techniques. Strong analytical ability to gather, organize and interpret information and develop, recommend and implement solutions. Proven ability to prioritize projects, accept responsibility, and follow through without close supervision. Knowledge of safety and health processes and related legislation standards. Certified Safety Professional (CSP)/Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification preferred. Lift Truck experience. Metals industry experience, preferably in a service center or downstream processing environment. Must be able to work outside normal business hours/days as needed. Must be able to travel up to 20%.
