III-BSIT-A Animation

Mr. Zaldy Ronquillo

Animation is the rapid display of a sequence of images to create an illusion of movement. It is also a simulation of movement created by displaying a series of pictures, or frames. Cartoons on television are one example of animation. Animation on computers is one of the chief ingredients of multimedia presentations. There are many software applications that enable you to create animations that you can display on a computer monitor. Animation starts with independent pictures and puts them together to form the illusion of continuous motion. From Latina animatio, "the act of bringing to life"; from animo ("to animate" or "give life to") References: http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/A/animation.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animation

Types of animation 2D Animation 2D animation figures are created and/or edited on the computer using 2D bitmap graphics or created and edited using 2D vector graphics. This includes automated computerized versions of traditional animation techniques such as interpolated morphing, onion skinning and interpolated rotoscoping. 2D animation has many applications, including analog computer animation, Flash animation and PowerPoint animation. Cinema graphs are still photographs in the form of an animated GIF file of which part is animated. Example: Classic hand drawn animation Sesame Street by Paul Fierlinger 3D Animation A 3D animation is digitally modeled and manipulated by an animator. The animator starts by creating an external mesh to manipulate, a mesh is a geometric configuration that gives the visual appearance of form to an 3D object or 3D environment, it is given an internal digital skeletal structure that can be used to control the mesh. This process is called rigging and can be programmed with movement. Various other techniques can be applied, such as mathematical functions (ex. gravity, particle simulations), simulated fur or hair, effects such as fire and water and the use of motion capture to name but a few, these techniques fall under the category of 3D dynamics. Well-made 3D animations can be difficult to distinguish from live action and are commonly used as visual effects for recent movies. Toy Story (1995, USA) is the first feature-length film to be created and rendered entirely using 3D graphics. Example: Toy Story and Up Stop Animation Everything that is shot live, frame by frame, in front or under a camera is called Stop Motion or "Stop Frame" Animation. Clay animations are usually the first thing that comes to mind in this category. The different stop motion types obviously looks very three dimensional, the same way video looks three dimensional, but the term "3D" is reserved for computer animation only. Stop-motion has a special and powerful appeal of its own; the reality of the objects on screen enhances our expectations of them. Pixilation is the most direct use of this power - animating real, live humans Example: physical special effects in original star wars trilogy

Web Animation A general name for the types of small animations that illustrate or decorate websites. Usually Gif or Flash, you find these on blogs, in forums, in MySpace, avatars that web surfers use, animated logos, banners that promote just about anything. Jab animation The name of an online animation site where you can upload you photo and insert yourself into a funny pre-existing animation. This seems to be turning into a generic name for this kind of web application. VJ Animation
A visual experience that accompanies the music in clubs, concerts, weddings and so on. Usually abstract graphics that run in loops, but occasionally you can come across more complex creations. References:
